《Battlefield NYC (LitRPG Apocalypse)》Chapter 17: Numbers Go Up

"Go ahead," Sophie said. "I can help decide which one's more important for you to choose." She sat down next to him again while he considered his options.
“I bet you’re wondering, how much is each point worth?” she said as if she was the one with [Mindread]. “What would each status point be equal to, in terms of power or how long they'll give returns for you?"
"I think Magic and Luck are the best choices for me,” Lance said. "I want to be stronger, and I don't know what the Luck stat means but it can't be bad, right?"
Sophie nodded slowly, staring off into space. Looking at her stat sheet, probably. "If Luck is like Strength then yeah—you're probably good with it. Just keep in mind that it takes a lot longer to get Stat Points than Skill Points."
"My Strength is lower than my Luck, actually," Lance said. "18 and 23."
Sophie shook her head. she thought back.
Lance shrugged. He knew he could put more points in any of those stats, but those were high too. After all, he still had more than enough health to take a few hits, and his agility was high enough to let him dodge most attacks anyway. Still, he wondered: why should he be punished for wanting to have an easier time surviving? Why would the System refuse to let him live in peace, forcing him to kill to power up?
Whatever. He would think of those once they got out of this goddamn city.
Lance invested his points.

"Did you see that?" Sophie asked suddenly, standing up again and pointing down the hall in the direction from which they had come earlier—where the gunfire was coming from. "I saw movement outside the door." She sounded frightened, but more than that she seemed excited about it too.
To be fair though, he was a little bit too; he was ready to try out his new skills.
The sound of a Special Ability activating resounded from the hallway, and Lance detected new presences.
They just won't stop, huh.

8 1330My Hundredth Life
I was an ordinary guy, living an ordinary life, until it happened. What we came to call the "Reality Break". Monsters started spawning in the streets, Mana flowed through our veins, Skills and Abilities were unlocked, and everyone had a Status Screen. I was living my dream, an RPG apocalypse! Until I died, that is. And woke up in a new world...where I died again. And again. With each death, a new incarnation, a new game world, and new scars upon my soul. Now, at my 99th death, I just wish it would end...but unlike in some of the worlds I have "played" in, this time my wish is not granted. *** Author's Note: This is my first 'serious' attempt at writing a story. I am hoping to turn ths into a series that I can publish to Amazon, but my life is a bit hectic right now, so I can't make any guarantees. However, I have serious reasons for writing at this point in my life, so I will do my best to provide this new twist to the LitRPG genre and keep it up for as long as possible. Thank you, to anyone who reads this. *Also, tags might change depending on how the story goes, there may be mild profanity or mild sexual content, but I have not decided yet.
