《Spirit Of The Forest (Dropped)》Chapter 9: The Overly Helpful? System

Den’s POV
Den was laying on a bed in a room given to him by the princess. He was currently digesting everything he learned. First of all the world was called Fantasia just like the title of the game that he was about to play. It was kind of ironic actually, he was brought into a world that he chose to join. To continue Den’s train of thought he mentally went through the races which were pretty much generic for a fantasy setting.
Elves lived about 400-1000 years depending on several factors within nature and were adept with nature magic at birth. Beastmen have a lifespan of 200-600 depending on type and have a harder time learning magic, but they have greater physical strength, regeneration, and a special transformation for certain types. Demons lived for double the lifespan of a human so about 160-200 years and had greater power over magic at birth. Humans lived 80-100 years, but levels will increase their lifespan which also applied to all races. They didn’t have the strengths of the others at birth, but were a versatile race who could match the other three races in almost any field with enough training.
Den was also informed that he was not going to kill a demon lord like a normal story. Rather he had to assist with the battle against the increasing amounts of monsters. And the second part of the quest dictated that he had to save the kingdom from itself. Which Den assumed to be “change the entire kingdom with the power of a hero”. Also on top of all that the king wanted to hide his identity of being a hero, which Den could understand since although fame may help him with saving the kingdom, it caused more problems as nobles might try to get rid of him for trying to change the kingdom in any way. So he was now going to be a “personal guard” to the princess to cover up his existence in the castle.
Den grew rather tired, first he was transported to another world then was given a mission to basically save the world.
Why couldn’t it have been a normal kill the demon lord quest. At least I would have a clear objective.

Den started closing his eyes trying to get to sleep when another blue box popped up. He hadn’t seen one since the quest was accepted.
System is upgrading because of accepting main quest.
He opened his eyes again. No point in sleeping when another blue box of annoyance could show itself. It didn’t take long, maybe about a minute or so before another blue box appeared.
System has upgraded. Player has received semi-sentient system. Adding in affinity upgrade to the system...
Den raised a eyebrow.
A sentient system? I can see that this going badly. What does a affinity upgrade even do?
Another box popped up.
Hello I am you semi-sentient system do you wish to give me a name?
Den looked at the newest box and created a name so original and so generic that it wasn’t
“Name system: System”
System has been named: System
The screen continued on.
System is now equip with basic knowledge now inputting into player’s head… Warning! Severe pain incoming...
Den started panicking.
No wait not!
He was cut off by a headache that would have been worthy of a god rampaged through his head. Information continually flowed into his brain until Den couldn’t take it anymore and completely blacked out. It was morning by the time Den woke up and it was accompanied by a lovely message.
System has detected unusual amounts of pain in player. Recommended ways to remedy: Stop drinking.
STOP DRINKING?!? Who’s fault do you think it was that I was in so much pain in the first place!
System has detected large amounts of rage and anger. Suggested cures: Large amounts of sexual intercourse, hitting wall continually, punching whoever made player angry.
FUCKING!!!
The system was basically a machine designed by the gods to drive Den mad.
If the monsters don’t get me. The system will.
Den thought to himself trying to calm down. Then gave up and started the suggested method. Continually punching a wall. Bits and pieces flew from the wall as Den’s rage doubled his strength.
“Sir guard, the princess requires your…”
The maid who walked in stopped her sentence short when she saw the newly appointed personal guard to the princess continuously hitting a wall while looking like someone murdered his favorite pet. The maid hurriedly backed out of the room and ran towards the princess’ chambers to inform her of the guard’s madness.

In less than a minute running footsteps could be heard as the princess swiftly reached the door of the hero. She ran in and looked confusedly at the hero who was still hitting the wall. The punches he made was drilling a hole into the wall.
“Stop! Stop! What are you doing!”,she cried while pulling the Den away from the wall.
Den seemed to snap out of whatever rage he was in. He stopped struggling to get out of the princess’ grip. After a couple more seconds to confirm Den was calm. Tana released his arms and started interrogating him.
“Why are you pounding on the wall?! Did it offend you in some way?!”
“No”,Den mumbled as he continued,”something just came over me”
A look of pity seemed to go through Tana's eyes. She could understand what the Hero’s anger could have stemmed from. Seeing how he was brought to another world and suppose to accept it.
Den was now calm and noticed that his strength had gone up by a point.
Is this suppose to work this way?
Another blue box popped up.
Answering Question: No, player is enhanced by system so stat gains such as this is normal.(Stat gains will get harder to achieve the more points there are in specified stat)
Well that answers that question.
He then looked at the princess again. This time with a clear head.
“What is it that you needed from me? The maid was about to say something I think”
Tana seemed to recompose herself and then started briefing Den on what is to come.
“Well we are going to establish you as a personal guard in training. With your status we can start working on reforming the nation. So you will be trained by the best the castle can offer. After a couple months of training we are planning on letting you tackle a dungeon to get some real battle experience.
Den nodded thinking that this path as a hero being summoned was normal. He then moved away from his thoughts and noticed that the princess had a troubled look on her face.
“Is there something else that is bothering you Princess?”,Den asked.
The princess looked at him seeming to make up her mind before starting to say.
“Well before you were summoned I was on a mission to clear a dungeon. We ran into some… shall we say difficulties and ended up having to turn back.”
Den seemed to follow the conversation or at least he thought he did. Since this seemed like a pretty generic quest in a story.
“You lost something during the fight and you want me to retrieve it for you?”,he asked.
“No”,she replied,”one of our… difficulties was a child assassin or at least we assume it was a child assassin. I wish to find him, but the only lead I have is that he was in the Mother’s Forest dungeon not long ago. Since you are the hero who will reform this empire I thought you might be able to help me track the child down. Can I ask this of you?”
A blue box appeared.
Quest Recieved: Find the Mysterious Boy

Oh a quest! It even gives good rewards. A good relationship with the princess along with her assisting me on my mission would help greatly.
Den reviewed the contents of the quest one more time before saying to the Princess.
“I accept this request of yours”
System has unlocked ??? for Special Benefits: Wiping memories and traces of player’s existence as to better achieve mission. Will teleport player to the vicinity of the Mother’s Tree dungeon. Proceeding with directives…
