《Heaven's App》Ch 7: Killed by Tenacity

[As it finally reached the user's satisfaction, the short experience of having a parent will soon expire.]
'This... This is a joke... Right?'
Liam became dazed.
Just as he thought that the app have finally become a better help for him, it made a text that was very implausible.
"I... I better hurry up... That's right. I'll do it myself."
As he regained his senses and averted his gaze off the phone, the zombie was already moving its claws towards him.
Thwack! It hit Liam's shoulder with great power. He barely survived when he activated his Endurance skill at the exact moment he was hit, but it still made him fly for over a meter and even hit a wall.
Ack!
'It hurts...!'
Liam tried to move his body along with the shoulder, but the pain that originated in one spot scattered like a smoke.
He tried looking for the zombie thinking it was still a bit far, but it was already in front of him.
By a hair's breadth, he reflexively dodged the incoming attack. Liam rolled away and stood up before taking a few steps back.
Panting heavily, he still can't clear the thoughts about his mother and the text given by the app. He didn't believe such words...
But...
The app was the one who brought his mother back to life, so wasn't it also possible to destroy that life?
Having that thought only made Liam more anxious.
Thinking that he needed to get out of here and go to his mother, he ran straight towards the end of the alley.
He went passed the zombie, but he was once again hit in the back making him fall on the ground.
Thud!
"Urk!"
Liam immediately stood up, turned around, and kicked the nearing zombie away from him. He looked at it fall on the ground before he turned back and ran towards.
Halt.
He stopped his movements. On the end of the alley, the horrendous dog-like monster was standing with its four legs, facing Liam. It seemed to him that it came here after it smelled his scent, since it was constantly moving its skinless nose.

I'm cornered. I might die here. How do I get out?
His thoughts were chaotic as it mixed in with his emotions.
But.
There's this one emotion which rose higher than the negative ones.
'I will kill them. I still need to protect my mother.'
Ding!
While he was trying to look at both sides of the alleyway thinking a way to handle the monsters, the phone that fell on the ground suddenly vibrated.
The screen automatically opened and a notification appeared.
[The user's certain emotion peeked to a great extent.]
[The Heaven's App shall grant the user the most needed skill to top up with his state for once.]
[The skill Tenacity was automatically given to the user without any permission.]
[The skill will temporarily remain until the user's certain strong emotion finally subsided.]
The zombie already got up and the four-legged monster already ran towards Liam with its incredible speed.
He was about to try blocking the incoming attacks that even he knew was impossible to take it on without getting severely injured, but suddenly, vigor aroused inside his entire body.
Without having to know about how it happened, he immediately tried to use that opportunity.
Using an unbelievable speed, he turned his body towards the four-legged monster, which's fangs was aiming to swallow his head, and hit it with a kick wielding a strong power.
Half of the monster's head exploded into pieces after its body hit the wall.
Liam didn't look after it as he instantly turned around. He folded his arm, twist his hips before he shot up his fist with an unstoppable force. He hit the zombie's head and slammed it on the floor.
The two monsters didn't move anymore. Liam didn't care about the blood that splattered all over his body and clothes as he immediately hurried away.
While thinking, somehow, he knew a way how to kill them in the easiest way. It felt like his analyzation was increased.
A few moments later, the middle of the two monster's body suddenly bulged, then a white-colored orb forcefully tore a way on their bodies' flesh as it floated on top of them.

Ding!
The phone which was still on the ground rang once again as a new notification appeared.
[The user killed his first monster.]
[Rewards shall be given.]
[The Heaven's App bestowed the user 400 coins, 2 level increase for every attribute, and 2 level increase for every skill.]
[A middle-class normal dagger and a middle-class normal skill book named 'Dagger Mastery' was given to the user.]
[The Auto-Collect was activated.]
[Two middle-class white Power Core was placed in the inventory.]
Tap!
Only a few dozen meters away before he could finally go to his house, but he didn't continue to run forward because the street before there was filled with monsters and also...
...The corpses of people.
Liam's face twitched.
'Mother...'
He was anxious but he bit his lip hard to clear the awful thoughts he was.having.
Liam moved to see what was more in the street. He widened his eyes as he stared at a large structure of stone and dirt. Its size was almost as big as a two-story house and there was a hole in the middle appearing as a passage of which monsters were coming from the underground.
Seeing that made Liam to hesitate more.
Ding!
His phone vibrated in his pocket. Noticing it made him feel bitter as the thing it said remained inside his mind.
'The phone... I thought I dropped it...'
Liam leaned on a wall and grabbed his phone and checked it.
Obviously, it was a notification, but what made him confuse was the text written in it
[Tips: Power Cores can boost the user's random attribute by 2 to 30 depending on the tier.]
"Why would it tell me this now... Hm?"
After reading the 'tip' from the app, he realized something.
"Don't tell me..."
Liam removed all the notification and head straight towards the app's inventory.
He saw an image of a white orb while an 'x2' was written in the bottom-left of it, there was also an image of a dagger and a skill book. He expected the orb since the tip was related to it but he didn't know about the dagger.
'Just where did these come from...'
He soon tapped the image of the orb and it became bigger.
The description was the same with the tip given by the app while below have a tier list written in it.
The word after it said,
'Low to high-class; white, yellow, red, violet and blue.'
He read all the details before pressing the 'Use' option.
[4 levels of Strength was increased]
[4 levels of Wisdom was increased.]
After that, he felt something stirred inside his body similar to earlier but weaker, and even the way he thought felt smoother.
He soon came for the dagger and read its details.
Silver Dagger
Tier: Middle-class (Normal)
Effect: 10% chance of a deep slash
+5 Dexterity
+5 Strength
Soon after, he pressed the option 'equip' which wasn't there before. He already half-expected this but he was still surprised when a dagger appeared and floated above the phone. He even moved the phone away to test but the dagger stayed on the air.
He then grabbed it.
Next was the skill book. After reading it, he have an idea of where the items came from.
"This dagger and the skill book is related, which means it wasn't randomized..."
Was it a reward for an achievement or something?
[Dagger Mastery] (Physical)
Tier: Middle-class (Normal)
-Mastery of using daggers.
After pressing 'Use', he learned a little something about daggers, and basic techniques crept into his minds.
A monster saw him and made a chain reaction to the other ones after it growled.
Liam made a stance. He stared at them with a cold demeanor as he held the dagger up high.
"Come."

Digital Immigrant
This is the story of how James Allen Quick and Sarah Lynn Abernathy died. By 'died', I mean that their hearts stopped, their brains ceased sending electrical impulses, and all other physical functions terminated. Immediately after which, their bodies were placed into an industrial furnace, reduced to ash, and the ash was spread about in one of the last forest reserves in North America. As ash-spreading locations go, this ranked third. First and second places were, of course, a person’s favorite athletic team’s playing field and the sea. Or rather, I should say that this is how the story begins. You see, it’s what came after that is so interesting.
