《Of Life and Light》Chapter 64 [Brutus]

Beastmen and women screamed out their battle cries whilst advancing, or ran with great horror from the terror that was the Wendigo. For it leapt and ate, ate and leapt from body to body without much regard to its own safety. This meant that is was either arrogant, or confident in its strength as it continued to rampage through the army.

For the creature's own hide was magickal in nature. Which meant only something as magickally enchanted iron or bronze would be able to pierce it. Of course, there is always the magickal ores such as Mithril, Adamantine, and the like, but such was a rarity throughout the worlds. Therefore, it was highly unlikely anyone would have armours or weapons made from such ores, and no, not one individual within such an army held a blade made with them.

However, as it was a corporeal spirit, and a malevolent one at that, it was susceptible to Holy magicks. Of which they had many mages within who could cast such imbued spells, and yes, they did throw them upon my forces. Which only served to enrage them and my person even more.

">," intoned a mouse of a female Human, and directed the spell towards a pair of spectral Skeletons who were advancing upon a downed Hare Beastwoman who was in a panic to run away and had tripped. However, a beam of light fell from the heavens above, and down upon the Undead. Whereupon they did evaporate into nothingness, leaving the Hare to thank the Human over and over.

"No thanks needed," she replied, stroking the other's head due to the embrace she found herself in, "but you need to get going." Whereupon the caster did pull her away and onto the ground behind her just as a large claw raked through the space where the Beastwoman's back once was. For the Wendigo had appeared before them, and was soon blocked by three spearmen of the Wolf tribe. Each of whom had urine stained trousers and widened, maddening eyes as they struck out against the creature.

"Get moving," screamed one of their number just as the Undead creature quickly reached out and snatched one of the spearmen.

Here, he howled with a mixture of rage and fear, more of the latter, and lashed out with a now broken dagger upon its head and neck. Although a more intelligent creature may have laughed at the intent, this one did not. Instead, it promptly chomped down upon the head of the wolf with one of its maws, then held the body still as the latter maw ripped through its body until only the blood and remaining organ meat upon the ground remained.

One of the trio dashed away with his tail between the legs, whereas the remainder stood frozen with shock as the Wendigo turned its attention to it. Here, he did release a high pitched noise from the back of its throat whilst falling upon his backside. Whereupon it did break free from the shock, flipped onto his hands and knees, and frantically tried to scurry away. Of which would have succeeded, if not for the small detail of the corporeal spirit having taken hold of the wolf's tail.

At this point, however, another beam of radiant light fell from the heavens, slamming into the yeti-like creature's body. Where it did scream a mighty scream as it felt pain for the first time since its summoning to this plane of existence. This, in turn, caused the creature's eyes to burn with extreme loathing as froth crowded the edges of its two maws as it turned towards the Human who dared to harm its body.

Whereupon the mouse of a female Human did widen her eyes as the creature vanished from her sight, only to reappear from behind her. However, unlike its movements from before, where it only ate those it came across, the Human was struck hard upon her left side. Thus, she did fall to the ground, tumbling into several Beastmen who were trying to fend off against half a dozen spectral Skeletons. Unfortunately for themselves, once they fell to the earth by way of the female, they were immediately slain by the Undead they fought against.

However, what was truly curious about this event was not from the way these Skeletons slew their chosen prey, but that they actively avoided harming the female who fell within their midst. If one were to have taken the time to note such an event, they would have no doubt found it to be a curiosity. Due to the predicament of the area, on the other hand, not a one paid the small event much mind.

Once the Skeletons moved from the area, did the Wendigo appear above the female, of whom was pinned underneath the cooling body of a Tiger Beastwoman. Whereupon it did tear away the body from the Human, and proceeded to slam its fists down upon her limbs. Yes. She did scream both in pain and for assistance, but none were available at that time. Therefore, she was left to the mercy of the cruel beast who desire her destruction, rather than feeding her to the empty void within its self.

The Human, now with her limbs broken and twisted, her flesh bloody with dark blotches around the joints, could only await death as the creature lifted her towards its maws. Within her own mind, time slowed to a crawl. This allowed her to reflect upon her life's choices as the maws opened wide whilst stretching themselves forward in order to both remove her head and devour the broken body.

However, just as she was about to feed the void within the Wendigo, its body jerked upwards and shrieked with newfound pain. For a sword which seemed to contain the light of the day-star had found purchase inside its back. Whereupon it did flail greatly, tossing the broken body away as it tried to dislodge whomever had dared to strike its body.

Of which it did so, and found a Human male in full plate armour with both a sword and a shield in his possession. The sword itself was as stated before, but was also coated in a dark ichor of some sort, whereas the shield contained the image of a red rose with three leaves and half a dozen thorns upon the stem. This was, by the by, held in front of the offender as the sword was flicked downwards to remove much of the ichor. Whereupon it did sizzle and scorch the ground, bubbling as it sank deep into it.

"You alright, Aclara?" came the muffled gruff inquiry of the male within the armour. Of whom was then rewarded with a sob from the female, but was unable to act any further beyond defending himself. For the creature before him launched itself upon the male in a great fury, rending into the shield that was brought forward. This was then torn away, its metal shrieking with a similar voice of the corporeal spirit which he now faced.

"Grah," he cried out, watching his arm become limp from shock as the shield was removed with great force, and swung his sword at the Wendigo. Of which leapt away quickly, its crimson eyes warily eyed the object which caused it so much pain, then vanished from its spot.

"Where did it go?" the Human questioned the uncaring world, as the land around it was still full of the chaos of battle. Thus, making it difficult to locate a single creature within.

However, he need not search for it much longer, as it reappeared from behind, raking its deadly claws through the back plate and almost tearing it away. Instead, the metal was warped with jagged edges, and served to tear into the flesh of its opponent centimetre by centimetre, increasing the pain he already felt. Of which served to allow the fingers of his limp arm to twitch in response, leading to the armoured hand to slowly become a fist. This then rose up towards something beneath the armour, a pendant of some sort, but was unable to reach for it.

Here, he closed his eyes whilst mumbling a prayer to an unknown God of Light. Of whom then answered just as the Wendigo reached out to grasp his body, which led to it leaping away as a great beam of light fell from the heavens upon the Human male's body. When then led to his restoration, and stood tall with the sword clasped in both hands.

Whereas the creature, not understanding what it was that had occurred, tried to leap away. Unfortunately for it, bolts of radiant light flew out from the beam, striking its chest which elicited from it another shriek as it fell to the earth clutching at its chest and second maw. For the bolts had found purchase within it, causing much pain to radiate throughout its body. Leading it to become further enraged by it all.

Therefore, it did leap from its position, after noting the disappearance of the light, with both maws open wide. Only to find the same Human in plat armour awaiting it with a golden lance that emanated a holy light from the God he so served, and propped it up so that the path the creature took would be upon the point of his lance. Yes. It did fall upon it, within its second maw. Whereupon the lance did pierce straight through its back, resulting in a death cry which reached even my ears. Upon its death, however, it did explode with a great force, blowing back those within a radius of fourteen metres. These were then tossed away up to twenty and five metres, whereas the lone Human male was missing much of his right side. Thus, leaving him to slowly perish as none would come to save him in time.
