《Of Life and Light》Chapter 60 [Sarah]

The Mother shivered at the words spoken by Sarah, of whom appeared to be in a trance whilst speaking of such a tale. This viewing caused her to stare upon the Goddess with great curiosity. In that she took a moment to glance upon the children, and found her twins to be snuggling up to an enraptured Nox who stared with widened eyes up at his mother who spoke. For it appeared as though the child greatly enjoyed the stories presented, whereas the girl children were a tad more frightened. However, such a feeling would be soon removed by way of Command, which was their outdated system that governed the various laws within the Pantheon and worlds under its control.
"Curious," she muttered to herself as she stood up from her own seat in order to lift the children from their sofa. Whereupon she did sit down upon the seat, placing the fox twins and the hybrid upon her lap. Of course, the trio did stare up at her person with great curiosity, but when nothing was forthcoming, they did turn back to listen to the story at hand.
Whereupon the Kitsune did stare at the immortal Wolfwoman with great curiosity. Here, she did not that the eyes of Sarah were glass-eyed and her ever changing colours had become muted. Such a view was odd to her eyes, and did not even look upon her person when she lifted the children onto her lap. Instead, the other paused in her words as though awaiting a command to resume.
"Mama," yowled Nox with a pout, "Story!"
"Of course, Nox," the Goddess spoke in a monotone, and resumed the story once more.

"Forthnotch has fallen," growled a Human in red and gold coloured chainmail. Of whom then slammed his fist onto a battered oak wood table which had seen better days, but with the war between Beast and Lizard, it had been worn down to plywood status.
The location such an outburst had taken place was within a spacious tent in the middle of an army on the outskirts of a forest of Aspen trees. Within this army, however, was a mixture of Beastfolk, Lizardfolk, and Humans. Each of which milled about with disdain for the primary two factions, but were forced to work together due to the newest threat. The appearance of a Devil King.
Now, within this tent was the red and gold Human, along with three Beastfolk of the Fox, Wolf, and Hare tribes to his left. As well as three Lizardfolk of the Swamp, River, and Plains tribes. Each of these beings represented the various tribal aspects of their turn by turn livelihoods. Or would have, if there wasn't a war between them.

Such as the Foxes wore a mixture of reds and whites, the Hares an earthy brown, and the Wolves their greys and shadowed colours. Whereas the Swamp Lizardfolk had colours of muted greys and greens, the Plains with their dampened greens and dead yellows, and the River had their browns and greys to mimick the silt and stones of the rivers they called home. However, the war between the two had caused them to use such colours towards tactics of war. Even donning metals of copper, bronze, and iron to aid them in battle. Whereas their own magicks, which were to be used to help their people and all life around them, were used against those they were told to help.
With the threat of a Devil King, on the other hand, they were forced to put aside their differences in order to bring down something which could, essentially, end their world. Unfortunately, there was still a lot of lingering hatred, so any chance of them working together without casualties from either side was extremely slim. Which is why the Human before their persons had called their leaders together to form some sort of alliance before they resumed their warrings without the help of the Humans. Of whom were now tasked with defeating this new foe instead of helping the factions slay one another.
"Why should we care about some town out in the wasteland of ice and snow?" sneered the Lizard of the Swamps, who wore leather and chain armaments, and pointed towards the Beastfolk across the table of which they sat, "If it was one of theirs, then I welcome this new Devil King as my Brother. It has killed off something which is our enemy."
"So you are allying yourself with the Devil King," growled the Wolf, of whom was a male with large muscles and tattered, endarkened leathers. Here, he loomed forward with a snarl, desiring the intention to rend the throat of the one who spoke.
"If it kills you furred folk," hissed the Plains, who wore a dirtied robe of earth toned colours, "then yes. We shall ally with this King."
"And what of you?" barked the Fox, who wore the same outfit of the Wolf, but one that showed off the curvature of her body as she nodded towards the River representative, "Are you going to assist your cousins in this fiasco?"
To which the River shrugged in its coloured beads and reed-like chestplate, "The waters take us wherever we may go. If it is to the plains of our cousins, then we travel there; to the swamps, then we swim with the current until we reach our destination. If it is to the side of this King?" the grey and brown scaled shoulders shrugged in a slow motion, "then we shall flow to his side until the waters tell us to journey elsewhere."

"I can't believe what I'm hearing," muttered the Human, who then stood tall and paced back and forth at the edge of the table, "You are all wanting to pledge your loyalty to a Demon Lord? Are you out of your minds?"
"Let them do as they please, Raphael," huffed the Wolf with crossed arms and a glower upon his features, "They will all die eventually, so why not let them die with this Devil King instead?"
"No, little fur-fang," growled the Swamp, "it is you who will rot beneath our waters as our young feat upon your carcass for many moons."
In so saying, the trio of Lizardfolk did stand tall and marched themselves out. All the while, three out of the four stared after them with a mixture of emotions upon their features. The most dominant of which was hatred for their kind.
Whereas the only one to not voice an opinion of any sort was the Hare. Of whom was another female, and wore tight fitting leathers which showed off her curves. Unlike the Fox, however, this one had a voluptuous pair of mounds upon her chest that were squashed down. These were the objects of many a male's desire, and were currently being frowned upon by her person as she contemplated within her own mind.
However, her thoughts were not focused upon her chest size, but upon the matters of what was spoken by the Lizardfolk. For her own race were used as scouts and messengers during the war, and although many of her race found it much more enjoyable than being on the front lines, she and a few others desired to try their mettle in combat. Unfortunately, none would instate her and those who desired such a thing. Therefore, she was of a mind to join up with this Devil King in the hopes of obtaining some form of combat with another.
That is, however, until another of her kind dashed into the tent. One that was wholly male in his leathers, and conversed with her person in a frantic gibberish before dashing out. Whereas the female stared in the spot the other had once stood, a horrified visage creeping steadily across her features as her eyes leaked many streams of tears. For she had just learned of something horrifying from the other of her kind, and when asked about what had occurred, she spoke within a state of unbelief, "Carro Opolis has fallen. The Devil King has killed our beloved King and Queen."

"Ah," sighed Karastak as he walked through an ankle deep river of blood. For such an area was a thriving city of stone, iron, and wood with many hovels of earth built around. Such a place, by the by, was the birth home of the Hare tribe. One where they had allowed many of their past predators to live amongst them in peace and solitude. Now, however, there was only death and despair.
For the Devil King had come for their lives, and would not pause until all had been brought to heel. Therefore, he decided to personally visit the city with his servants, and ordered them to slay any and all within their sights as they traversed the streets towards the largest structure. Of which contained an olden King and Queen, who decided to not flee into the forests which surrounded their home, but to plea for the lives of their kin.
Unfortunately for themselves, once he who claimed dominance over their appeared before their persons, their heads were almost instantaneously severed. Whilst those within the room soon followed suit, their heads bounding away from their bodies as the crimson waters within the bodies did stain the ground forevermore.
"Ah, perhaps not forever, but close enough," sighed the Fallen God as the heads of the royal family were stuck atop pikes which were to be placed at the front entrance.
" And here I thought I was insane," muttered Melephas as he observed everything next to a voiceless, metallic Skeleton. Of whom had been chosen to watch over the annoying Human, whereas the others continued their slaughtering of the city.

Ouroboros Ascendant
Ouroboros Ascendant is a story about friends you meet on the internet, and then spend entirely too much time together hunting monsters, doing quests, earning experience, and risking your life. Except for Jack, Erin, Rory, and Layla, the video game they play together every Saturday isn’t nearly as real or as threatening as the primal world of Ayrgard. A mysterious force has drawn them across the darkness between realms for its own purposes, and they’ll need to survive monsters, politics, and a lurking threat they can’t yet imagine. In the interest of disclosure and ease of access, Ouroboros Ascendant features gay, bisexual, and straight main and supporting characters, and features elements of romance between some of those characters. However, OA is not a story about romance. If you're hungry for more chapters, there's always Patreon.

What seperates beasts from men isn't the language we speak or any such drivel taught to us in school. It isn't the way we walk or our intelligence that sets us apart. Some would have you believe that it is our ability to think and reason that makes us fundamentally different from the creatures that inhabit the world. That way of thinking, my friends, is entirely wrong. What seperates us from them and them from each other, is simply the skin that we all wear
