《Of Life and Light》Chapter 37 [Sarah]

"What is happening?!" howled Roj as the twelve witnessed an army of the Undead arise from that which was thought to be only the Void between worlds. For it should be impossible to create the Living Dead without some sort of earthly tie, correct? Well, that should be the case, but the Lich who summoned them was-

"A Lich of the Spirit," whispered the smallest of their number, who then pointed towards the four-armed, metallic Skeleton behind the contingent of Ghostly Undead, "It's a Lich of the Spirit!" It's voice was raised to a higher pitch until it cracked, causing several closest to it to raise up their gloved hands in order to hinder the sound from traveling further down their ear canals.

"Loud noise," growled the one to the small creature's right, and hit the top of its head.

"There's already a lot of noise," growled the other whilst rubbing the top of its head, "bu8t that doesn't matter right now," a glove hand pointed towards the metallic Skeleton once more, "That is a Lich of the Spirit!" This was spoken just as the first of many flashes erupted all around the barrier placed to keep them safe.

For all around them were trace images of Skeletons which were later replaced by fading claw marks. This was due to the fact that the metallic Skeletons, which held the emerald flames above their head, were incredibly fast despite being that which was supposed to be quite audible due to their bones grating and clacking against one another. However, such a feat came from their God, who used a technique which seamlessly bonded their bones with liquid iron. Of which was immediately inscribed with many dozens of runes and sigils which kept them together, whilst they moved. As such, there was no worries about the Skeletons falling apart after they've been moving for too long.

However, the twelve did not know of this. For all they knew, the skeletal beings which attacked their barrier were of some sort of continuous spell which would run its course some time soon. When it did not, they did shrug with the belief that it was simply recast.

It was about this time when the contingent of ghostly Skeletons came upon their barrier. Of which caused each of them to spread out and begin to hack at a few select spots around it. Here, they flung themselves against it, hacking and slashing at such spots, which caused the Minotaur, who was closest to one, to stare at them with some confusion.

"What are they doing?" it spoke with a shrug at the scene, then shuddered slightly as a ball of acid infused with fire exploded in front of its face. Yes. It was on the spot where the Skeletons were, and yes, they were erased from existence. However, they were quickly replaced by more, who continued to attack the spot which was trying to repair itself from the fire and acid.

"They're..." began Roj, who then watched as another ball of acidic fire splashed itself against the barrier, then watched in horror as cracks soon formed across the surface, "They're breaking the barrier! To arms!"

Unfortunately for himself, the barrier broke, causing shards of energy to fly inwards. Of which tore several of their robes, and revealed the Minotaur in all its, his, glory. For the creature was exactly that, a male, what with his bare chest devoid of anything which counted towards an enlarged chest. However, despite it being of brown fur, which was a common colour for them, the beast breathed fire.

Of which was demonstrated by way of it spewing out a gout of flame upon the Undead before him. This was followed up by a summoning of his battleaxe, which was swung many a time and cleaved through those still standing.

After such a display was noted by the elderly Human, he pointed towards the creature, his voice thundering out, "Feed your Wendigo, Brutus my Lich. Give your new pet the Minotaur, but bring unto my person the rest of them."

"Yes, my Lord God," came the response as an unearthly howl filled the Void they occupied, as the ghostly visage of the creature which was even feared by those who were Gods faded into existence next to its summoner. Whereupon it was let loose upon the living beings before it. Which, in turn, would begin with the Minotaur, whose complexion paled as it continued to hack at the Undead who dared to rise up against it.

The howl would only continue, as that which was feared tore through the remaining contingent of Skeletons, devouring their essences as it moved swiftly until it stood before the Minotaur. Whereupon it did raise up its right claw, and slashed downwards, clipping its right horn as the other leapt away.

"A little help here would be most appreciated," called out the creature, but upon glancing towards his compatriots, noted that a few of them were being dragged away towards the old Human. Of whom was trying to transform his body into something else, but was failing due to something unknown to his mind.

"Hard to do that when- YOW!" This came from Roj, whose right arm was pulled out of its socket as his body was slammed to the table's surface. Of which caused small slivers of the wood to splinter and scatter as a metallic, four-armed Skeleton forced the other down upon its surface. Afterwards, the pair did vanish from sight and reappeared in front of Karastak, whose form was a combination between his Human and Devil King self.

"Roj," his the voice of the Fallen God as he gripped the other's hidden head. Of whom then heard the whispering of a demented mind which only desired the robed individual's death, but only after it was drained of its everything. "So good to see you once again."

The Devil King's head shook itself into a blur, stopping for, but a moment upon his own face before shaking itself back into the old Human once again. "As you can see," came the voice once again, which echoed all around the void, even though it was barely a whisper, "you have lost, and I have won." Again, the head shook, but when it ended, the face was still Human.

"Who are you?" Roj exclaimed, desiring to know who, or what, his captor was. Whereas all around him were the echoing sounds of battle between the Wendigo and his Minotaur compatriot, and the frightened whisperings of those who were brought before this unknown.

"I am hurt you would forget my person like that." No. He did not sound hurt, nor did he perform the action one would take to mimic being thusly. Instead, his Human mouth grinned a teeth full of elongated fangs which blurred between blunt and sharp.

"You do realise we are protected by the God King, and when she comes, she'll destroy you all." This was proclaimed greatly, but fell upon deaf ears as Karastak gripped and lifted the smallest member of the twelve.

Of which was done so as the Minotaur shrieked loudly with, "Save me! Please! Someone... sav-" Then there was nothing, as it was no doubt in their minds that his essences were now being devoured by the Wendigo that was no doubt still hungry.

Everyone living shuddered at the sound, then turned towards the Fallen God with widened eyes beneath their hoods. For within mere moments of their shaking's end, did they return as the smallest screeched loud and long. For lightnings, the colours of emeralds, sapphires, and rubies flew along his arms and entered the mind and body of a now revealed Halfling female. Whose eyes, by the by, were wide to the near point of falling out, her mouth agape as her vocals had faded away due to the lack of air to vibrate in creation of her voice. Whereas the rest of her body twitched and spasmed due to the rampant energies coursing through her, devouring everything and anything they could find.

And afterwards? Afterwards came only the sound of a limp body crashing to the ground, whilst Karastak's body shook itself into a blur just as his head once performed. Once such a thing died down, was it revealed unto them a Devil King. One whose rating was that of an X under the system within the Azzarathean Pantheon.

Here, he did stretch his skeletal wings and sighed a great and contented mental sigh that sent shivers down the spine of the ten living members in red robes. For the Minotaur was undoubtedly slain, and the smallest, a Halfling, was not breathing. 'So good to finally be in my body once more,' came his mental voice, of which was familiar to the others somehow.

"Y-you," Roj's eyes widened greatly, understanding finally dawning within his mind, "Yo-you're Undead Karastak."

'I was at one point, yes, but now I am Devil King Karastak, rightful ruler and God of our world called Terra,' replied the other with a sneer as a pair of luminous, gold orbs appeared where there once was a pair of crimson upon the faceless mask of he who stood before them, 'but no, that was too much for you all, and you had my and mine removed from our world.'

Power coursed itself throughout his form, alighting the entirety of the Void for a brief moment to reveal an entire horde of ghostly Skeletons surrounding their persons. Next to Brutus, however, was the Wendigo who stared with great hunger upon those still living. Upon noting this, the Fallen God did toss the Halfling towards it, of whom eagerly tore the body apart in its search for the essences within.

The noise which came from such a venture, the flesh being ripped apart, innards and blood splashing upon the Void's floor, and the incessant slurping from the maw caused even a few of the more intelligent Undying to shiver with disgust and barely contained fear. For such sounds sent shivers down their spines in ways which was unimaginable, but was ignored by he who was their Lord. This was due to the fact that it was all new to his senses, and would desire to experiment with the creature at another date.
