《Of Life and Light》Chapter 20 [Brutus]

The journey towards the outpost was short, but annoying to our ears. For the Humans would do their best to preach and prattle on about the value of life, and how to was precious. Especially the Cleric and Templar, whereas the Mage desired to know the secrets of our Lord's magicks. Of whom was slowly focusing upon such a male, but only just so as it was still a Human, and they are weak creatures.
I did ask, at one point, why He continued to associate Himself with them, and so I asked again. This was due to Him not giving my mind a satisfactory answer, which led to Him pausing in the journey with only one hundred metres before we came upon our destination. He then turned towards my person to mutter with our own language, "I do not know, Brutus. It is as though something is pulling my person towards them, which becomes ever stronger when I try to move away."
"Then, My Lord God, should we not remove them from your side in a more permanent manner?" I asked slowly, my own magicks gathering as I did so.
However, He stopped my person just as it began, by placing his right hand over my own and whispering, "Destroy the outpost and its occupants, Brutus. Let us see how they react, as well as I to them during such times. If I do not appear with a smirk upon my features during its destruction, then you are to slay the Humans immediately."
"What of the Mage?" Our eyes drifted towards the one called Melephas, whose hands were behind his head as he stared about the scenery of tall grasses and trees. Of whom then turned towards us with a wave, causing the other two to glance towards us with their ears straining. However, they would not understand it, for such was the language of Terra.
"Drag him with you, claim it will be a test to see if he is worthy of earning my magicks, but watch him closely if he does join you, Brutus." Our Lord's eyes became slits as a crimson light oozed out of the opening.
As I watched with curiosity, however, he continued with, "If he does not actively participate in this mindless slaughter, then you are to slay him immediately. Even if he proves to be difficult, he is to die."
"Will you not slay the other two, My Lord God?" The lights within my sockets drifted over to the Templar and Cleric, then snapped back towards him person just in time to see Him shaking his illusory head.
"I feel as though I cannot, which is a great mystery even to my person, Brutus. Therefore, you are to slay them immediately when you come back and do not see a smirk on my features. For I believe that they will try to influence my mind somehow, and I must concentrate on blocking it out."
This caused my stilled heart to freeze, for I did not believe our God was capable of losing, especially to that which was considered to be inferior to us all. My own expression caused Him to chuckle without humour, as He spied the thoughts upon my features, "I believe something is driving their beings towards my person, Brutus. Did you not see their reactions after I revealed my form to be a Devil King?"

"I honestly can't say that I have, my Lord God," my head bowed in an apology, but he waved it away as though it did not matter.
"The trio desired to run, Brutus, but they did not. It appeared to my eyes that they wished to flee the scene, never to return, but something kept them rooted upon the spot."
"Would it not simply be their minds freezing their bodies into shock?" My own mind could not wrap around this revelation by our Lord, but did its best.
Again, He shook His head as His eyes drifted towards the others, then back towards my person, "There is something there, Brutus, and I desire to know what it is. Therefore," He pointed towards the outpost, whose gates had swung open in order to birth the metal occupants who were now marching in our direction with grim faces, "it is imperative that I must discover what it is."
"By having my own self away for a time," I nodded just as He did as well, then bowed low, "I shall do as you say, my Lord God." Afterwards, I did stand tall, shedding the illusion which was placed upon my body once more, then grabbed the Mage who squawked.
"What do you want?" and, "Let go of me." He struggled for a time, yes, but halted the moment I told him about our Lord desiring to test him to see if he's worthy to acquire such knowledge of His magicks.
"Oh?" the eyes of the Human sparkled with greed, and did his best to shrug my grip off, but to no avail.
"Yes," came my reply with a hiss, then pointed towards the approaching army with my lesser claws, "You are to help me in destroying them utterly, as well as whomever is left within the outpost."
"Why?"
"Because if you do not, you will die." I had decided to speak the truth, which was odd due to the fact that I was about to voice another thought. For I gained nothing by telling him the truth, and would have spoken of something more easing towards his mind.
Of which confused me greatly, whereas the other put on an air of arrogance, as though such a thing was impossible, "Now who would want to do that? If I do this, then that'll mean I get more levels, right?"
"What?" my head shook at such a thing, not understanding what was going on. However, I felt the urge to just tell him to keep moving, and start casting his spells as ordered by my God, but another part of my mind screamed to just slay the incomparable fool of a Human.
To this, I did so, by reaching towards his throat, gripping it tightly with his eyes widening and his own hands gripping my wrist and arms. Of which caused the outpost army to shout as the body of the Mage was hoisted into the air, and had his throat ripped out immediately. The blood within its neck erupted as though it were a pressurised geyser, showering the whole of my body in its crimson liquid. Whereas it gurgled for, but a few short moments, its eyes widening as the colour of the skin whitened, before the whole of it slumped into a more relaxed pose.

"You bastard," howled this group of living flesh, as they charged as one upon my position.
I, on the other hand, felt a refreshing release as the Human died. For it appeared as though some great force was pushing down upon my mind, trying to take control of it. Or perhaps, desiring to influence it in some way, then fled along with the life essence of the Mage called Melephas. Unfortunately for myself, I could not celebrate, nor share such a thing with our Lord, for this group was within striking distance. Of which caused my person to lash out with glee, using my own strengths in order to strike down their persons.
In one such case, a single Goliath wearing chainmail and wielding a very large club that appeared to be nothing more than a few sapling oaks tied together with chain links approached my person with it raised high above its head. Of course, it appeared to be in a state of bererker rage, which are the easiest to deal with. So long as you keep calm, anyways.
For they had one blaringly obvious weakness: Tunnel Vision.
Of which simply meant that they focus on one person, item, or event, and blocked all others out of their mind. With those who know how to deal with such creatures, all you need to do is have them focus on something else. However, mental magicks fail upon those of whom were beyond mental stability, but illusions which projected one's self were not.
Therefore, as it approached with a roar, its club raised high, I made my person vanish by stepping into the shadows below its body. Of which caused it to become somewhat confused when the club created a large crater of three metres in diametre, but no bodies were found underneath.
"Hurr?" it grumbled, lifting its club in order to stare underneath. However, when it looked over its left shoulder, dozens of Undead appeared where its friends once stood. This caused the creature to blink several times, as its enraged mind slowly processed the information.
During this time, however, I had conjured up my own servants in the form of ghostly Skeletons. Of whom were then sent out to destroy such creatures, and they did so with silent glee. "The Undead have returned," howled one of their number, as those nearest raised their weapons or shields to slash or block their advance.
Unfortunately for them, such weapons, armour, and shields were ineffective against my minions, as they began their slaughter. It was not until one fourth of their number died, did the Goliath roar at the Undead, and charge their position. Upon reaching them, however, it keeled over, its body coming apart in a dozen pieces as three of my Undead drifted past the body.
These, by the by, were Shadow Wights. Endarkened creatures of black mist, and formless features, they are, and the only thing corporeal about their bodies were their claws. Of which were capable of parting flesh like a hot knife through butter. Thus, creating an effective way to slay those that should not have gotten in the way. Such as the Goliath whose blood fed the grass roots below.
The others, on the other hand, had chosen to take an expeditious retreat back towards their supposed "Safe Haven". Of which were soon overrun, as my forces merely passed through their broken and unenchanted walls of wood and stone. There they screamed and begged for deliverance, as my minions raised up their weapons, and parted the flesh of the living with every strike.
And afterwards? Afterwards, I danced amongst the carnage with glee, as we made sure everything and anything were dead, but upon my return to our Lord's side, I noticed something peculiar. Something which should not even be possible.
He was glowing with a brilliant white light, and screaming in silence as the Cleric and Templar chanted over his person.
This, and this alone, caused my mind to snap with eyes of crimson hatred. For they were harming our Lord, and I gave into the Madness which was within all Undead. Not only this, but my own servants flew into a rage, scattering upon the wind in search of life to slay. Which meant that anything and everything died under their rampage.
The grass; the trees; the forest animals which hid themselves away. Everything and anything perished, as I made my way towards our God, summoning up a beast which will surely help us in our time of need.
A Wendigo.
Yes. A creature which is commonly referred to as "Soul Devourers", and I summoned one in my Madness. Of which came from nothingness. For you see, there were no portals present like with my other servants, as such creatures need not use them. Instead, it simply popped into existence, charging towards the Humans who dared to harm our Lord and God.
Of which, upon reaching the pair, immediately shoved its right clawed hand deep inside the Cleric's back, causing whatever the female was speaking to come out as a gasp. This allowed our Lord to snap back into colour, the light fading away as the Templar, too, was shaken out of whatever he was casting.
Afterwards, the Human stared up at the beast with wide eyes, as the creature which resembled a white furred Yeti tore out a white silvered substance which took on a screaming image of the Cleric from her back. There, the Wendigo's chest split horizontally, and opened wide to reveal an impossible sight of dozens of rowed teeth stretching deep inside a cavernous maw. Of which the essences of the female were tossed into, screaming as the teeth shredded into its ethereal flesh.
"My Lord God," I cried out, as the Wendigo turned towards the Templar with great hunger. Of whom then turned and ran, but two hundred metres, before suffering the same fate as the other only moments before. "My Lord God, are you alright?"
Frantically, I pulled out a purple crystal which was hidden between my spine and ribcage. Of which shone with a mysterious light and feint runes within. This was then crushed within my primary right, and a spell circle, the same colour as the crystal, erupted beneath us, transporting our bodies away from the world of Onul'raan.
