《Of Life and Light》Chapter 14 [Sarah]

Onul'raan, a world containing one great continent and four lessers, of which housed many a life form upon such. Of the four, only one contained a Human empire, which did make war against its neighbours every other decade. For which such beings were none too pleased about, as they tended to raid and set fire to their coastlines until driven back by the might of the combined strength of the other races.

Now, however, they had become silent as the decade in which they would soon resume their battles came about, but were met with only clear skies, calm waters, and silence. Which led to many believing there was some new scheme, as there had been silence within the first cycle of the decade of battle before. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately for them, there was nothing. Not the first cycle, the second, nor the latter cycles, and it seemed that the Humans had given up on their desires for domination of the other races.

Which is why the remaining three, Elves, Orcs, and Goliaths sent out their ships full of soldiers and spies to find out what had occurred with the Human civilisation. Upon reaching the first port town which was known by all to be a Freeport which was neutral in all things, they found it empty of life.

There was nothing there. No bodies, no signs of battle, and no animals. The latter was especially disturbing to the Elves who set foot upon the port town, and even reported the lack of spiritual and natural energies within. For it appeared to them that a great something had removed everything that was alive, and apparated them elsewhere. Thus leaving a void of nothingness behind, which caused such a race to shiver greatly. Of whom were more attuned to the world and its energies than any other.

This led to the races slowly expanding over the continent of the Humans, trying to figure out what had happened. However, after two decades of doing their best to figure out what had caused such a race to vanish, they were met with their answer.

The Great Continent.

The final clue was found within a vault underneath the Humans' last great King's castle, along with the body of such a being. Of which was perfectly preserved, but not even the Elves' great magicks was able to revive such a being fully. Instead, he was able to stay alive long enough to mutter a few words, before his body faded away to dust, "They... live... again... Run!"

No one was able to make out what this last King spoke of, and nearly all brushed it off as nothing, only believing that they could now rest in peace.

"The fighting is over," proclaimed many a herald across the three nations, "The Humans have ended themselves, and now there will be peace."

Oh how a fool such races were, as they celebrated and retreated from the vault with only what was visible. For if they had deigned to search further, they would have found a trove of scrolls and books. Each containing findings of a grand treasure within the Grand Continent, of which proved to be such a race's undoing. For upon opening this "great treasure" they did unleash a curse upon the world. One which was long ago forgotten by all of that time.

This curse allowed the fallen to rise up again, to feast upon the living, and infect those who escaped after being bitten or scratch. These bites and scratches turned such survivors into virulent time bombs which, once detonated, created untold destruction around their persons. Not only this, but portals opened from within, allowing those who long awaited their turn to wreak havoc upon those still living.

No. None of them knew of such a thing, and instead continued as though nothing was amiss. That is, until a sick sailor appeared within the former Human Freeport, and detonated within a large crowd. Of which led to the creation of many Undead, and the first of many portals to appear, as a horde of monstrous creatures resembling the disappeared Humans reemerged. Thus came the slaughter of thousands, which spread to the millions within a single turn of the day star.

Within a single cycle, and after another two and a half decades of having no wars with the Humans, did they return and retake their homeland with such strength that made them appear demonic than anything else. However, they also set their sights upon the other continents, which caused many to panic. For they had not warred with any others in so long, that they lost the Elven continent and half of the Orc, when their priests, seers, and shamans cast their prayers to the heavens above in order to deliver them from such a force.

Of which was answered by Karastak, much to the dismay of the trio of Humans, as they entered the portal for the world of Onul'raan. Whereupon they were met by a ghostly apparition of a female Human who bowed and escorted them towards a chamber where a spell circle sat in silence upon a pristine, marble flooring. There, the group was told, through a series of gestures by the female, to stand and wait upon such a thing.

Afterwards, she did vanish, leaving them to their own devices for a time within the silence of the chamber. Or, it would have, if not for the complaining of a worrisome Aclara and Dashall. Of whom whispered frantically amongst one another, discussing the possibilities of what they may encounter. Perhaps such a thing was to reassure themselves in the beginning, but were not grating on the Fallen God's nerves.

"You will be silent," he hissed at the pair, as he turned his head to glare with one eyes upon their persons. Of whom was met with indignation by they who claimed to be his family.

"Now listen here, [omitted]," growled the Templar, who dared to lay a gauntleted hand upon his left shoulder in order to spin his around, "I am your father, and I will not have you-"

"My father?" Karastak laughed with disgust as he swatted the hand away, then turned to face everyone before him, "You are not my 'father', and I will speak however I may." The Cleric looked about ready to speak, but was silenced almost immediately from the other's glare, "In my eyes, none of you are recognisable, nor do I care about your wellbeing. So take heed, for I shall not be the one to save you if you cannot save yourselves."

Upon so saying, he turned back around and towards Brutus, where they spoke low and in a language not familiar to their ears. However, such a thing did not progress far, as the apparition had reappeared with a time of some sort. Which was then placed upon a pedestal which appeared within an instant in front of her.

No words were spoken, but the spell circle below shone with a great radiance beneath their feet. This led to a blinding light to emerge from below, which wrapped around their bodies, causing them to feel lighter than air. However, as they were becoming accustomed to such a feeling, another took over. This one, by the by, was one that caused their bodies to jerk backwards, along with one of falling from a great height.

Yes. They were, and were speeding quickly towards a world with five continents surrounded by a great expanse of water. Four of them appeared to be more along the lines of large islands, whilst the fifth was the continent. From their view of the world they were traveling to, though, it appeared as though there was a mass of endarkened clouds building around the centre of the large one, and extended over most of two of the lessers.

Quite odd in their eyes, to be sure, as they made their way towards one of the large islands which was not covered by such clouds. Once they entered such a world, the group was able to peer a little further from within the light which encompassed their bodies. One that revealed a great milling of bodies which yearned for those still living upon the land and waters surrounding it.

These beings excited Karastak and Brutus, as they glanced at one another with a nod. For they would venture forth into such a land, even if they had to discard the extra baggage which attached to their persons.
