《Of Life and Light》Chapter 9 [Brutus]

"Hmm," hummed the Lich King as he leafed through the dark sheet that made up his Story, then paused half way down the page once he came upon a passage which lit up the pinpricks of ocean blue lights within his sockets. "Here it is," came his mutterance, which halted as he came upon a sight of adorableness. For Mia and Maya were in the process of nuzzling their muzzles up and down the front and sides of Nox's neck. Whereas Anasi simply slapped his the front of his face whilst shaking the whole of his head as this occurred.

The hybrid, on the other hand, did not seem to react to this, and just allowed it to occur without much in the way of caring. For this was a common occurrence with the trio, as they loved him very dearly, but it was sometimes a little too much for others to bear.

"Ahem," Brutus coughed loud enough to startle the children, of the three, only the twins blushed and hid their heads from sight whilst everyone else just sighed. "Returning to the story at hand, I have skipped over some parts with are too dark or too boring from you four."

"Like what, Uncle Brutus?" chimed in Nox with perked ears and cocked head.

"Like the fact that we caused the new 'villagers' start recreating our city of Necropolis, but was told to forgo such a thing by our Lord, and just allow them to sleep anywhere except the thrones we all had to create. For it was preposterous that He should sit upon the dirt coated in dried blood, or stand for an eternity.

"Of course, we had to create two. One for His Human self, and the other for His true self that rarely showed up, now that I think about it..." He became thoughtful for a moment, then waved the thought away, "Anyways, how about I just continue onwards with the story once again?"

"Yay," cried out the trio, whilst the Arachne simply nodded quickly whilst leaning forward to catch everything that would be spoken.

The story will continue where the last one left off, with our Lord dismissing the horde of new "villagers" as they prepare for the coming night and the Hunt within. At that time, it was around dusk, with only a few clicks of the clock before Azzarath's moon was to drift over our heads for the up-teenth time since we were there. For it had been nearly six moon turns since we had come to this... despicable world, and yes, I exclaimed my disgust for it greatly.

"It is unfair," I whined at one point to the other Undying, as a stone flew northward from my pointing kick, "Why did we have to leave such a wonderful world like Terra where we had everything and anything we ever wanted? Like all the boy-toys to play with." In my own mind, I was drooling like a dog who scented a great meal that was placed in front of it.

"I know the feeling," muttered Sia, who was one of the Lord's protectors of His many children. Of which she had failed to do so when the First Born ran rampant with sword and fire. Before such a failure, though, she was one of their primary caretakers. In that they viewed and called her their "Big Sister". To have to trade this, even after such disgrace, was a poor choice for one such as she.

These sessions of alone time with the others were far and few between, but were nothing compared to He who took us in and gave us a purpose in life. For He suffered the most, of losing most of His children to the First Born, then losing the rest to the system which governed Terra in and of itself. If we were to compare pains with Himself, ours would be a single teardrop, whilst His were gaping holes where the heart and mind resided.

Well, these was mere thoughts that I had run into during another boring session of introducing the newest members to our little village in the mountains. Though, it's not in the way many would expect, as these arrived with barely an article of clothing upon their backs, and in a cage. Of which was then dumped at the foot of our Lord, and began the process. Such as turning the children against the adults, a few of such adults dying due to challenging our authority, and some escaping into the wilderness beyond. They won't get very far, mind you, and it did cause some entertainment to arise from it.

In any case, after the rest were divvied up, He motioned for myself and Sia to lean in closely. Thus it was revealed that something had sparked His interest, to the point of such a thing using Divine Magicks as though He was not going to be able to sense such a thing. To which I grinned mentally, and stretched my body after being revealed the general direction of the unknown creature which used such magicks.

"Bring them to my person, Brutus, Sia," His voice, a great rumble which caused my entire being to shiver with great pleasure, "This Divine Magick User, I desire it's power for my self, do you understand?"

"Yes, My Lord God," we saluted by slamming our right primaries against the area which once held our hearts.

"And if there is anyone else with it, bring them too. For I desire to know how they were able to find such a place if there are no other civilisations left within our new territory."

Sia and I were the ones to lead such an expedition, it was true, but, "Why did you all have to come, too?" my voice drifted over the whole of our Lord's Undying. Of which numbered as twenty and five, not counting myself and Sia, as four others had joined, but were wholly male and need not be mentioned anything further beyond their being skeletons as well.

We had made our way to the base of a large hill with as much speed and stealth as we could manage. For high above our heads was a glowing emerald green of a moon which, quite surprisingly, bathed the land in a light colour. Thus causing the world around us to appear more like it was twilight, rather than being closer to midnight.

"Why?" whispered Amira, who flicked her three tails in my direction, "Because Sia asked to bring us, and He said she could take everyone if they wanted to come. So here we are." To which I sighed heavily, then turned my gaze upwards where a soft glow from a barely visible campfire where four unknown personages were seen by our skeletal Undying comrades.

This led to us slowly advancing towards the unsuspecting camp, which was quickly surrounded. It surprised many of us when we found it to be rather easy to creep up on them to about two metres away from the fire. Whereupon we did learn of something surprising to us, at least.

"So you're saying that that thing down their is my brother?" exclaimed a mouse of a Human girl who wore a tired robe with a twenty pointed star emblasoned upon her chest. Of whom was not at all pleased with something a little Gnome who wore what appeared to be smoke and clouds all about his little body.

"Yes," he replied in a monotone, "That one is Karastak, and your bother."

"But... how? He was never like this before. Never cruel and uncaring, nor did he ever raise a hand to harm another." This came from a grizzled old Human, whose outerwear was nothing more than battered armour that desperately needed the care of an Enchanter. Along with the helmet, however, he looked to be more like a knight of some sort, but I did not see anything like an insignia or crest about his person.

Then there was the last remaining member of the party, and this one I recognised to be a Mage of some sort, as well as a male Human. However, his facial features, though sharp in contrast, was completely bored with the entirety of the situation. That is, until his eyes darted this way and that, as though spying something which did not bode well for the party. "Uh, guys," his voice carried over the rest of the group, and as they turned towards him, they noted his right index twirling in a horizontal circle, "We seem to be surrounded."

This was our cue to enter into the firelight, which we did, but it was not I who was first, but Shauu. Of whom roared a deafening roar that caused all, but the Gnome to cover their ears. Upon its end, however, the three Humans pulled down their arms, revealing their hands to be stained with droplets of crimson blood. "Our Lord desires you all to be brought before Him," growled the she-bear, then grinned as the old veteran and Cleric geared up to fight. The other two were standing about the fire, not at all ready to help them.

Of whom leapt towards Shauu with a long sword and heavy mace at the ready, but were easily caught by her large, illusory clawed hands. This startled the pair, as they watched their weapons being crushed and crumpled, then discarded as they were tossed over her shoulder.

"Uh, a little help would be nice, Melephas," called out the Cleric with panic seeping into her voice as she summoned up her energy in order to unleash a blast of her magicks upon us.

"Nah, I'm good," was his reply as he shrugged and sat down upon a rock to watch the fight.
