《Of Life and Light》Chapter 1 [Ageless]

Nox's eyes had widened as he listened to his father speak of his past self, which led to his tails wiggling even more so as his own ears flicked forwards in order to catch everything that was spoken. Which then flattened against his head as the other simply tapped the right side of his muzzle as though contemplating some great mystery whilst glancing down upon his son. "Papa?" he began slowly, the child's eyes begging for the story to continue as he placed his own right paw atop the other's left.
Of which broke whatever spell kept the Ageless from the continuation of the story with him blinking a few times to look more so upon his child. "Forgive my lapse in speech, Nox. For I was simply thinking about my past self."
This led to the other giving a curious shrill, as his ears perked whilst his head cocked to the right. Which led to a short scratching session of the head and back of the neck for the boy. Of whom sighed with joy, as his eyes were closed and his body pushed up against the attention he had been given. Which caused his body to flop onto his back, as he giggled from being tickled from his father at this time.
However, such a thing was halted so as to allow Nox room to breathe whilst he snuggled up against his father's abdomen once more. "Papa?" His eyes were once again upturned as he stared at his father, begging to hear more of the story presented before him.
"Alright, Nox," chuckled the Ageless, who lightly grabbed and shook his son's muzzle teasingly.

In the end, she did not desire to know what was upon my own mind, and instead warned us quite emphatically about the laws of the land. For example, all Undead beings are to be slain on sight, as they are quite strong even after they are "reborn". Which meant that a normal Zombie does not die from its brain being removed from its body. Instead, it must be burnt to ash, and that ash must be purified by some "Holy Priests". Whereupon they would spread such ashes upon the winds that will carry it elsewhere.

With my person being Undead, and a Fallen God at that, I would have nations howling for my destruction if word ever got out. For all races upon Azzarath held a pact with one another. In that they would halt in their desires of conquest and bloodshed in order to come together as brothers and sisters in their fight against the Undead. Yes. Even those who loathed one another's presences would fight and die together in order to destroy any and all who did not stay dead.
Which is why many religions preferred to burn their dead rather than bury the bodies in an effort to remove such chances.
Unfortunately, such luxuries are not possible when a large scaled war occurs, and a multitude of bodies litter the battlefield. As such, wide scaled magicks are used by both sides in order to bless and sanctify the land before and after every battle. However, such things can be disrupted with a few trinkets or well placed spells that create darkness, poison, or destruction.
This always leads to a few Undead being created, which causes many a battle to cease in order for them to fight this new threat. Of which also caused many within the world of Azzarath to settle their disputes by forcing such leaders to fight one another, or their champions performing such actions.
No. There are no more major wars, but there are battles which takes place between Human, Kin, Orcs, Goblin, Elves, Dwarves, and Beastfolk. They are quite common, which always gives rise to the creation of Undead. Which is where I and mine come in, for we bore witness to an event between Orcs and Goblins against a lone village of Humans and Kin.
The former were using their strength and cunning to launch themselves against the thick wooden stakes of the village as desperate humans in leather and cloth use their long spears and arrows. Whereas the Kin, of all beings, were flinging spells of fire and molten rock upon those who dared to step into their line of fire. Unfortunately for them, we knew such a defense would not hold out, but did not move from our positions. For I was contemplating on what to do, and yes, Azazel had long ago left us to our own devices, as she was want to stay around us for much longer.

"My Lord God?" called out Sia, who wore a sort of deerskin dress that was hastily sewn together earlier that turn, "What is it that you have seen?"
"This place," I waved my staff around the area, of which was a valley protected by high, mountainous ridges that stretched all along the borders. Thus leaving approximately four kilometres in either direction, with this village in its centre. "It is well protected from all sides."
"Indeed, My Lord," spoke aloud Rojaahn, whose eyes twinkled whilst he stroked his chin slowly. This led to him stopping such stroking in order to turn and face my person in puzzlement, "Do you desire such a place."
"I do indeed, Rojaahn. I do indeed."
"Then allow us to take it for your self, My Lord," called out the melodic voice of a now enthusiastic Brutus. Of whom had been bored until we came upon this battle before our very eyes, which had currently switched into the favour of the Orcs and Goblins. For they had broken through what appeared to be the main gates to the village.
"Then do so, Brutus, my Undying. Slay them all so that we may start anew. For although our world had tossed us from itself, this new one will be our base until we can take back what is rightfully ours."
*****
Immediately after speaking, the Ageless did lift his child up into the air, causing the pair to laugh or giggle as Nox was tossed towards the ceiling, just barely brushing against it, before slowly falling back into his father's arms. The reason for doing so? To keep the child from asking what had happened to the village full of Orcs, Goblins, Humans, and Kin. For although he would have only butchered the Humans in this day and age, his past self held no qualms with slaying any and all who would dare stand in his way. Therefore, he kept the child busy with play.
Of which led to the pair exiting the study, and walking down the silent halls lit by the emerald torches and moonlight of the lonely moon above. Whereas every three metres the pair spotted something which appeared much like a statue wearing an old style of iron armours. Each of these held one of two weapons, a pike, or a longsword and kite shield. As to their true purpose? These were what was known as Living Armour, and were nearly as old as the Ageless himself. For these creatures were created by him, and would remain as the Eternal Royal Guard for himself and his family.
In any case, after a brief burst of travel, the pair entered another room. One which held the setting of a dining room, where a long, wooden table which could sit up to ten people was being decorated by Elven servants in matching white robes. What they placed were simple iron and wooden cutlery, plates, bowls, and saucers. Whereas the cups and glasses were made up of varying degrees of coloured quartz crystals.
For the God King did not enjoy having fancy cutlery and the like. Instead, he chose to have something more humble until important guests come to visit. However, this does not mean that he would be using such things for his meal. No. For just as the child was settled into his own chair, and a meal of meat and vegetables placed upon his own plate, was he served a glass of an unknown golden liquid. Of which he had once referred to it as the "essences of my enemies".
The liquid itself was rather viscous in nature, and brightened considerably as it was swirled in the crystalline glass in his right paw. Of which caught the eye of Nox who watched with a giggle as the liquid shone through his father's neck as it was drunk, but disappeared when it entered the region around his chest. Afterwards, he did turn his attention to his own meal, whereupon the child did fall upon it as any beast would until much of it was inside his small belly, and the rest upon the stone floor below.

Paths of the Chosen (Rewritten, Revised, and Reinvigorated)
Daniel Stewart was chosen to alpha test a brand new Immersive VR game, "The Realms". What he doesn't know is that he has also been Chosen by one of the Powers of a far-off world, and is now a pawn in a game much bigger than any he thought he would ever participate in. Will he survive and thrive in this strange new world, or will he stumble and fall, shattered by the ambitions of another? Does he have what it takes to walk the Paths of the Chosen?---Inspired by the Chaos Seeds novels, TheDespaxas's The Gamer, and a wide variety of games and books, although the world, characters, and systems are my own. Expect high fantasy, magic, combat and intrigue, love and loss, grief and passion. This story is intended for adult audiences and contains explicit sexual content, profanity, and violence (including sexual violence, although not by the protagonist and not as a focus of the story). Chapters with such content will be clearly marked, and all explicit sexual content will be behind spoiler tags. I prefer my stories to have happy endings, and especially in these uncertain times, I feel that it is important to maintain hope. While this tale will reach some dark places, I promise to you that, when all is said and done, the villains will be justly punished and the heroes will prevail and prosper. Remember: it is darkest before dawn, but dawn always comes. Please note also that although this story does not have the [Harem] tag, it does have an extremely slow build into a polyamorous relationship. Additionally, starting with Champion (book two of the series), the [Multiple Lead Characters], [Female Lead], and [Non-Human Lead] tags would also apply to varying degrees. This is a complete, ground-up rewrite of the original Paths of the Chosen, following feedback from here and elsewhere. It is now written in the third-person limited omniscient perspective and in the past tense. In addition, while the major plot beats are unchanged, most of what comes between them has been reconsidered and rewritten, with pacing and characterization as a special focus.---Update schedule: 2 chapters per week (Monday and Thursday), not counting bonus chapters. Chapter length is roughly 2,500 words on average, +/- 1,000 words. Chapters with explicit content tend to be longer so that they are still worth reading for those who would prefer a fade to black. --- Cover art by Agri Karuniawan (@artofagri).
