Helen, what happen to you......
His hand trembled, as he picked the radio, with his heavy breath on the microphone.
Silly child.
Major raised the heartbeat sensor. A mass of red dots were gathering behind the hospital, spreading out in all directions. Gunshots everywhere.
They were approaching.
Major did the last check. Three magazines, not many, but enough for ten minutes. A grenade and a smoke bomb, the last straw, never use them until necessary. He adjusted his breathing, switched the weapon to semi-auto mode. Then he cleaned the blood, and took back the dagger to his scabbard.
It was his last weapon, his art craft.
He won’t be captured.
Major stood up, looked outside, and shot two rounds. The enemy immediately located him. A storm of bullet poured down at his side . Major hid himself in the back of the cargo, with random bullet flitted across his shoulder.
Major waited patiently, fired a few rounds. Two enemies got instantly killed. The armed men were were not matched, he has confidence about that. After 5 more men got shot from distance, the Major still alived. They had to change tactic. With overwhelming covering fire from mounted machinegun, the armed men advanced gradually towards Major, hid themselves behind the armored vehicles.
And that's the moment he's waiting for. Major watched their steps, pressed the detonating button.
BOOM!!!
C4 exploded a huge gap in the base of the statue. The angel statue, which lies at the center of the square, lost its support, cracked and fallen down to the vehicles. Flying stones and smoke spread all over the square. The armed men lost their sight, half of the infantries got buried in ashes.
"Major, this is Recon 1. The helicopter is approaching. We can see smoke and fire coming up ahead. Where are you now? "
"Recon 1, this is Bloodhound. I'm in the hospital square, heading for the evacuation point. Over. "
"Roger that, Major. The flares near the evacuation point will activate automatically when you arrive. We'll be hovering all the time.” Recon 1 replied, “Until we found the red smoke.”

“Thanks, Recon 1. How long can you stay?”
“Not longer than 1 minute, sir. Russian told us they will launch an air strike on the area soon.”
"An air strike?"
"Yes, sir."
Major froze. He quickly calmed down and, instead of moving forward, he returned back.
If they wanted an air strike...
Covered by the chaos, Major moved into the truck, took out his dagger, pried open the gas warhead, and carefully took the deadly glass of liquid out.
If the trucks were destroyed in the air strike, according to that chemical expert, the entire population of Minsk, the army, would all be killed by the gas. He took the last glimpse at the warhead, and throw the grenade inside it.
He must get rid of this demon.
The smoke was faded. In the early morning air, even without the aid of binoculars, the armed men could easily spot the black spot moving quickly through the weeds. Major heard the sharp sound of bullets, whistling around him. He stooped calmly, moving forward with a Z-route, repeating acceleration, deceleration, acceleration, deceleration. Every turn he paused and fired a round or two, and then he heard a injured scream, mingled with the sound of body falling to the ground.
But in the open area, with dozens enemies chasing behind, Major has been at his wits' end. Nothing to do but pray for the helicopter. After a round of burst-fire, Major had ran out of his third magazine, with only 1 last.
Is it the end of me?
Not. Not gonna happen. I've seen worse. I'm not ready to die yet!
WIth the tiny interrupt, Major felt something warm came out of his body . Gunshot! On the shoulder!
Without heisitate, he turned and shielded the canisters behind him, slided to the side, dodged the flares of the light machine guns, with one hand holding the weapon and fighting back. In a flash, a mass of blood came out of the pickup truck. Three armed men inside were labled as a hornet's nest.

Major heaved his body up, looked at the pickup turning upside down, with a fireball rising up to the sky.
Good for now.....the glass was safe. Major checked at the wound. Deep, penetrated by 7.62 bullet. His arm was disable for now. Fortunately, he still have the right one.
The armed men were getting more closer.
Major looked at the weapons in hand, only half of magazine left. No grenade anymore.
The flare was on the place less than 50 meters away, smoking red.
Major pulled out the smoke bomb, let the fog surround him. He gripped the dagger, his face was emotionlessly tight.
Suddenly, a huge shadow came out of the red smoke.
A Chinook helicopter. They hovered in the aire. The hatch opened, with a M134 mini-gun strecthed out.
"Command this is Recon 1. We have found Major. ready to evacuate"
“Well done, Recon 1. Get your ass out of here before the Russian clear the hot."
“Recon 1! Recon 1!” Regardless his wound , Major tied the cable to his waist, and hugged the glass with his uninjured right hand, "All units, free fire on my mark!"
"Roger, free fire."
The gunner operated the mini-gun. A ray of bullet fire splashing over the area. The armed men, their flesh and vehicles were all annihilated to dust.
“Major, that's damn close!" one team member turned to Major. “We can't stay here longer. Russian bombers have already taken off. We need return to the base as soon as possible!”
Major sat exhausted on the floor. “Where's Lieutenant Fox?" He asked.”Did you evacuate her?”
“No, Major. We didn't see Lieutenant Fox.”
Like a wet, cold hand tugging at his organs, as if his blood were drained from the body.
She didn't make it....... She didn't get out........
“Major?”
“Back! Back now!”
"What are you talking about, Major?"
“Lieutenant Fox. She's not out yet. I know she's there. She's still waiting for our help! Back now! I will never abandon my companion!”
“Major, are you crazy? There is no way back!”
“That's an order! FUCKING ORDER!" Major drew out the dagger against his thraot, "Go back and get Helen out!”
“But Major! Lieutenant Fox is a traitor!”
“What?”
“Our actions have been leaked from the beginning, Major! Lieutenant Fox, she sold out all of us to Molotov!”
……
The cabin suffered a heavy blow. Crews in the cabin were knocked off by a sudden shock. “We are under attack!” the driver's voice came over the radio. “Evade! Evade!”
Outside the hatch, a gunship, painted with a black shark head hunted behind them.
“May day! May day!” the pilot shouted in despair, “We lost the lift! Chopper's falling! Chopper's falling down------”
Another explosion. Major felt a strong whirlwind, turned him upside down, and throw out of the cabin.
......
......
His eyes opened, hardly, with extreme pain. The terrifying Sharkhead gunship landed. He saw shadow with a pilot helmet came towards him, slow and steady. He looked around. Under the wreckage of the Chinook, the bodies were scattered. He struggled to his feet and crept towards a pistol.
No sooner had his hand touched it, the shadow trampled against his wrist, and kicked the pistol away.
"Not a chance, Major."
A raspy, but rather young voice. A little familiar, gir-like voice, but failed to recognize. If only, her mocking eyes through goggles could tell.
Next second, Major felt his head was fiercely kneed by her. As his body tumbled, his last counsiousness dispersed in the cold winter of Minsk.

For one, even if someone tried to tell her, she doesn't know the language. Number two, have you heard about the sunk cost fallacy?
