《My Otherworld Gate》Chapter 1 – Start of a new life

How should I put it? This is kind of bad, isn't it? I'm currently in a classroom, presumably a high school in Japan, but I don't speak Japanese. It's not like I don't know a single Japanese word, but other than simple sentences at A1 level I can't really say much more. Definitely not enough to pretend to be Japanese.
I have to think! Let’s see, if this is the novel I was reading, then I should be getting bullied right? Considering how fat I am this could indeed be the same story. So, if I am dragged somewhere and get beaten, I can just return home and figure things out from there. If I remember correctly the story began on the last day of the 2nd high school year? So, once I'm done here, I should be fine!
"--------,---?"
The teacher is pointing at me and asking something. Ah... this is not going according to my plans at all!
I stand up, I think that's how they start answering questions in Japan right? And I...
"COUGH! COUGH!"
Pretend to cough! I cough like my life depends on it! HAH! Everyone is shocked! Next, let’s search my bag for something to drink. Jackpot! A water bottle, not pretend to drink and cough it all out! I must really seem desperate right now. Oh, I should flail around with my arms a bit and show extreme panic. Mmm! Truly well done, me!
"COUGH! BYUI! COUGH"
I'm pretty sure that was the word for 'hospital', sadly I don't know the word for 'infirmary'. Actually, I could be completely off too but whatever. Time to run! I grabbed my backpack, the water bottle, and textbooks on the table have to be sacrificed for my success, I can take that much if it means survival.
Most of them barely moved despite my astounding acting talent. Only a few came closer to try and help, well it didn't matter anyway since I'm fine and healthy... ok I admit I'm not healthy and my situation isn't fine, let's ignore the details though!

Since no one seems to have followed me, I should be fine to leave school. That was really dangerous.
* * *
I'm currently on my way home. My ID had all the information I needed. My name seems to be Hiro Fukuda, Hiro as my given name, and Fukuda as my surname. Well, actually I should say Fukuda Hiro I think. I'm 16 years old right now and definitely in high school.
Since all the details check out so far, I'm fairly confident about being transported into the novel. This could still be a very realistic dream but I don't want to bet on it and mess up my life. For now, I have to act cautiously. Let’s forget about my not-so-cautious entry though, I really couldn't help it there!
I'm finally at home. It's big. No, it’s huge. Sure, I've never lived anywhere but apartments but even with my biased view this is ridiculously large! What a lucky bastard to have inherited a house like this from his grandfather!
That reminds me, I should probably accept things as my own from now on... so 'my grandfather'. Mmm.
Anyway, I take out my keys and enter 'my home'. Yeah, I still have to get used to this, but that's fine I have time. It took me a while to find the way home and I'm still here so the chances of this being a dream are kind of getting lower and lower.
If I had to describe the inside of my house I would simply say "very Japanese". Somehow, I pictured the house very differently when reading. But I can't say I don't like it. It's very stylish!
I should get to work now. The main character took way too long to find the portal to the fantasy world but I can’t waste my time like him I have to get the language comprehension skill after all!
* * *
Since I can’t remember where the secret passage was supposed to be I push at every wall in the house I can find for now. This also gives me some time to sort out my thought. For example, this story has a 'real world + fantasy world', does that mean somewhere out there is my 'real body'? If yes, I wonder if I could meet myself someday, though I'm not too sure I want to do that, might be really creepy meeting yourself. I should really just not mind the details here.

"Ah!"
I found it! Took me long enough. Let’s enter and see what's lying around here.
It's a dark room, there are a bunch of random stones, masks, cubes, and so on. And the most important part, at the end of the room, is a door! My language comprehension!
I quickly open the door, I can see another, very different room behind it. And I enter full of anticipation of finally understanding words again.
A translucent box appears before my eyes with words written on it that couldn't make me happier. This is the start of my cheat life!
"Fufufu"
Indeed, I'm going to be a completely different person soon!
I quickly use appraisal on my skills and titles.
[Appraisal]: Appraises various things.
Well yeah, I guess as much. At least it's short and concise.
[Endurance]: You can take more hits before collapsing! Greater mental and physical resistance.
Somehow this one seems different from what I remember? But I think the wording just got slightly altered. Feels like a personal attack but I'll let it pass since I'm in a good mood!
[Master of The Door]: You are the owner of the door leading to another world. Allows use of the Menu.
[Master of The House]: You are the owner of the house where the greatest sage once lived. All items and magic systems of the house will recognize you as their owner.
[Otherworlder]: You are from another world. You gain more experience than normal, you acquire and level skills more easily than normal and you have no level limit. You gain the [Language Comprehension] skill, allowing you to speak all common languages.
[Person who visited a different world]: You visited another world. You can invent new skills and magic much easier than normal and you gain the [Item Box] skill.
Yep. This is pretty broken if you ask me. But while I normally complain, it’s pretty nice to be Overpowered yourself so naturally, I won’t complain! I wonder what it means by "common languages" but I won’t question the details.

This might seem weak but I'm actually pretty Overpowered, I also have pretty strong gear lying around somewhere in this sage’s house. I'm just not exactly sure where to look yet. Anyway, it's appraisal time once more.

[Defense]: Determines your physical defense.
[Agility]: Determines your agility, dexterity, and speed.
[Intelligence]: Determines your magic strength and strengthens your memory.
[Luck]: Determines your luck.

[Item Box]: Can store anything that does not live. No restrictions in size, amount, or weight.
"Hehehe"
I'm truly happy, if I just get some skills and raise my levels a bit there will be nothing left in my way to stop me from having the most amazing life!
This is the start of my new life!

Gateway
An archaeologist by the name of Søren Quinn wakes up elsewhere after boarding a plane for Iceland. Now he has to come to terms with a significant loss of recent memory and his apparent death and rebirth, provided he can survive the rigors of the Tutorial on Gateway Station and whatever waits for him after the Tutorial. Updates. When I can... sorry. Author's Note. Gateway is a portal/isekai style GameLit novel, but it has two main lead characters and will eventually have a small cast of minor lead characters to support them. There will be small elements of base building / kingdom management added as well over time, but they will not be the focus. Gateway really is a slow burn that takes some time to get going unfortunately, but I hope you find it's worth the wait. Thank you! p.s. Book One is finally done (only needed one more chapter unfortunately...) but I'm off hiatus now and will be starting on Book Two right away!

To The Far Shore
Post apocalyptic Oregon Trail. The apocalypse has come and gone. And come back again, and left again... nobody really knows how often. Nothing lasts forever, but nothing is ever completely gone. Which is a shame for young Mazelton, as his family has been around a terribly long time, and made an astonishing amount of enemies. Millenia's worth. So he has to run- from mobs, cannibals, soldiers, sailors, cholera, cattle, thieving sales-monks, starvation, mechanical horrors, vengeful spirits, negotiating your own marriage, and poison of every sort. Fortunately, his not terribly nice family has trained him well in the arts of core polishing. Or as you and I might know it- turning radioactive pellets into useful tools. And weapons. Updates Monday-Wednesday-Friday. Usual defensive tags applied. The goal isn't exactly family friendly, but you have probably seen worse on network TV. After the watershed. Not full blown HBO, let's say. This is the first novel I am sharing publicly, so feedback is very much appreciated and encouraged. Act 1 of the novel is completed, but do please let me know what works, what doesn't, and what you would like to see more of. Thank you, and Enjoy!
