《HATEFUL SIN》Chapter Twenty Four*

Bai got off of her horse and tied it to a tree just outside the village she had come up on, she grabbed her bag and put it over her shoulder, she checked her satchel on last time to make sure she had the money and looked behind her. The first person she saw was Sin who was tilting his head head as he watched Fen tie the horse up and behind them was her brother and oldest nephew. They had gone into town to buy some things for their camp, hence why they brought a large cart with them, her nephew stayed back to watch everything while she headed into town.
She hooked her arm around Sin so she could keep him close to make sure he didn't wander off to go look at something that caught his eyes. She was right in her guess that no matter what the young child would still retain his curiosity, it had been a month since she began teaching him and even though his learning was slow. No matter how much he learned he would always become curious about something else.
They made it through the town and finally hit the market section, she heard the people yelling to make sales long before she saw them. She was met with the sight of people bustling through the marketplace snatching up what they needed and tossing a few coins here and there before they moved on. People had to push others to try and get to where they wanted to go and she sighed thinking that maybe she should have waited till a bit later to come into town, or maybe go to a different town.
She shook the thought from her head, it was too late to change her mind now and if they decided to go to another town it would be some time before they got to another one and by that time they could be in trouble. She got to the first stand and pulled out her list, she started yelling out her orders and the person behind the stand made the people that were just looking at the fruits step aside. She called what she wanted again and soon the bags filled with fruit were handed to her and she handed over a silver before moving on to the next stand.
She looked at Sin who was staring at the exchanges she made with a puzzled look on his face and it hit her that he didn't understand why she was giving the people the money for food because he didn't even know what money was. She decided that when she had thought him about some big words she would teach him about money and its use, she wanted to know what look he would hold on his face when he finally figured it out.
They went through the market and grabbed everything they needed and then fetched it back to the cart before she took Sin and her husband back to town so they could go in a cloth store and get some cloth so she could make new closes for the children. She bought a pair of boots for Sin along with some for her children and a cloak. She helped him to change into them and watched as he examined himself before looking up at her, his mouth twitching just a little.

Sin never smiled, no matter how excited he was he never smiled or laughed and she found it understandable because she could give a guess as to how bad his life was before he came up on them. They headed out the store and back to the carriage placing everything down before they got on their horses and headed back to the camp. The ride was quiet except for the sound of Sin sitting behind Fen on a horse eating a sweet fruit she had given him.
They reached the camp and Sin got off the horse going off to god knows where as everyone else helped to pack away the things. Bai went around and checked to make sure everything they needed was there, she took her personal things that she had purchased and carried them back to her tent to unpack them. She called all her children and took their measurements, before she mentally called for sin who showed up a few minutes later, she measured him and then sent him off to continue whatever it was he was doing.
**
Sin sat by the river digging a hole, he spit out the seeds that were in his mouth into the hole and sprinkled some water before he covered back the hole. He had seen some people doing this when they were heading into the village, well they didn't do it like he did but they did do it and he wanted to see what would happen after he did it. He sat and stared at the the spot before he heard someone call for him and looked up to see a woman walking over to him with a basket.
She stooped down and took somethings out of the basket placing it in his hands before she got up and walked away. Sin looked down at the four brown round things that sat in his hand and sniffed it, it had this mild smell that he hadn't smelt before so he just tossed the thing in his mouth and his eyes widened when he bit down on it. A creamy sweetness exploded in his mouth and Sin hummed enjoying the taste until it melted away and he put another ball in his mouth.
Sin was soon finished with his sweets and sat wishing he had more until her head Fen calling for him, he quickly pushed himself off the ground and ran to where the man was. Fen stood near a tree decked out in a fur jacket, pants and boots with thick soles, he was carrying a sack, bow and arrows, a spear and a few knives. Behind him stood a few other men who were dressed similarly and Sin's eyes roamed over them before going back to Fen who gave him a small smile.
"We're going to get food and you're going to come with me so I can teach you a few things here and there okay?" Fen waited for Sin to process what he had just said before the younger male nodded. Fen and the other men started heading in the direction they had came from, on the way to their new location they had found a lake that was three times the size of the one they lived by and was bound to have some fish.

They would try and catch as many as they could before moving on to bigger game like dear and wild pig. Sin followed along silently as the men made their way through the jungle they were currently calling their home. Sin looked around and could see tree' all around him, he looked up to see them stretching into the sky and looked ahead when Fen called his name. He sped up his steps and came up next to Fen as they continued their walk.
It was a day and a half later that they came up on the rushing river that was wide and had several layers going down and down and hey could see different types of fish moving around in the calmer parts of the water. Fen and The men set their things down and Fen called Sin to his side to show his how to use the spear for fishing. "This is a spear you can use it for fighting or hunting or sometimes fishing." He looked at Sin who had his head tilted as he paid attention.
"When you have the spear ready, later I'll show you how to make one, you take a long rope and you tie it to the end of the spear, you have to make sure it's tight so it doesn't fall off." When he was finished he moved to the edge and wrapped the rope around his arm before he aimed the spear and shot it into the water. He yanked it back and there was no fish on it so he did it a few more times and was able to bring in a big fish.
He pulled it from the spear and dropped it in a large basket "Of course it is not always possible for you to catch a fish right away and it will take some time. And sometimes when you catch one it isn't always as big as that, so you'll have to keep trying to get the fish you want." Sin watched on as Fen moved back to the water to continue his fishing, Sin looked at all the other men to see them bringing up fish after fish and dumping them into the large basket.
They fished for a few more hours and then found a clearing where they could make a fire, Fen showing Sin how to do that, before he sat down to clean the fish with the other men. "Okay so while you're on the move there are two things you can do to use the fish, you can roast it over a fire to eat right away. And then you could preserve it for later use, something that we're going to do so it doesn't go bad by the time we return to the camp."
"We brought a large bucket of salt with us and now that we've cleaned the fish we're going to lay them out on this tarp and rub them down in salt, when you're done we can leave them out so the salt can soak into them." Sin watched as the men did what Fen said they would and then they moved to wash their hands. "Okay there are a few more things you can do to keep the fish from rotting but you can only do that if you have a stable place to stay, okay?"
Sin blinked at him and sighed "Don't worry in a few months Bai will have thought you all you need to do and I'll go over this for you just to make sure you know." They went around the fire and Fen took a seat pulling Sin down with him, he pulled out a hammer, a stone and a shaver like blade. "Okay now I'll show you to make a spear head, you can use the same manner to make a knife." Sin watched as Fen placed the rock down and brought the hammer down on it.
It broke into a reasonable size and he took up the shaver and started rubbing it on the rock, after a while the shape came out and the blade was sharp and shining in the campfire light. "If you don't have these tools you can use other rocks to do this but it will take a longer time to get done." He pulled out another rock and two others before using the bigger one to break the rock he wanted to use, then he started rubbing the stones together and after a few hours a jagged looking spear head was sitting in front of them.
Fen picked up a long piece of wood and used the very spear head to make it round and cut it off at a certain length, the he used the shaver to smoothed the surface. He grabbed a strap of leather and hooked the spear head to the staff and strapped it together, when he was done he set it in front of Sin who picked it up and examined it. "Now that is all you need to do for that, so I'll show you how to make a bow and arrows to go with it."
