《HATEFUL SIN》Chapter Twenty One*

Two weeks had passed since Sin arrived at the mining site and he had worked in almost every area. He had helped to mine the silver, he had helped to clean and melt it, he had helped in it's reshaping, in it's packing and heavy hauling but he knew none of the slaves would be involved in the shipping. No that was left for the people that were actually being paid for their work, while the slaves were left to do the hardest and more demeaning jobs.
Within the two weeks Sin had noticed the death of nearly fifty more slaves, some of them had been whipped to death, one or two had starved to death because the bigger slaves had been taking their food. There was a cave in in the mine and a few had been trapped in it, some of them were deemed too weak to be worth anything and was killed, One of the workers that worked near the chimney had somehow managed to be burned alive. But the worst one was when the masters found out that one of the female slaves was with child and instead of sending her away somewhere else.
They passed her around themselves and to some of the slaves who took advantage of the offer before they gutted her stomach and left her to die as a warning to the other female slaves not to become pregnant. The sight of it had been so sickening that Sin had thrown up everything he had eaten until he was dry heaving and the rabbit woman that normally stayed around the bear men had pulled him to her to hide his face. It was safe to say that he hadn't eaten anything that night and hadn't caught much sleep, so the next day he was dead on his feet but had no choice but to do his work.
Sin walked into the building that held the chimneys and helped to bring a few of the chimneys to life because the had a lot less slaves than they had before and they were still waiting on new ones to arrive. He continued to shovel coal into the fire until her saw Fen and the others arrive with a knew set of silver, he went over and dumped them into a metal bucket and pushed it into a chimney and then moved on to do the same for three other chimneys.
When it was time to shovel the coal into the chimneys to keep the fire going he found that to be more of a hassle because if you managed to let one go out the masters would take it upon themselves to beat you within and inch of your life. So sin had come up with a way to handle it, he would dump two spade full of coal in each chimney before alternating and then when the time came he would have to pull the buckets out the chimney one at a time and pour it into the boxes, because if he pulled out all at one time at least one or two would dry before they hit the container and he would get whipped for allowing that to happen.

That was one of the few things he had learned the hard way, the slashes across his skin from the whips were now scabbing open and he had to force his body to ignore the pain as he tried to handle two manned tools all by himself. He refilled the buckets with silver and went on to the chimneys, after a while he realized that he was working an extra chimney and that had him pushing his body to move faster and faster.
He could feel his bones and muscles aching but had to fight the pain and continue on his work, only stopping so he could wipe his sweat covered palms in his pants and then get back to work. Sin took note of the fact that no matter what he did all his body did was ache but in a sense he wasn't tired and that made him wonder why, because he should be dead on his feet and because he was the smallest in the bunch he should be collapsing like the others but he seemed to thrive in heat.
He found that that was the only thing he liked about himself and was actually thankful for it because at this point Sin had grown numb to almost everything but the thought of dying at someone else's hand would send a shiver down his back. And now he thought about it the only reason he had not died or had been killed as yet is because he was very good or avoiding death or causing people to want to kill him.
He shook his head and refocused on his work only stopping when the bell went off, he left the chimney to shut itself down and went outside expecting to see the lunch line but instead he was met with the sight of twenty shackled slaves. He groaned at the sight of them, he guessed he was thankful that there would be less work to do but that also meant less food and no matter how shit it tasted food was food at this place and something else that he noticed was that when stronger and bigger slaves were brought in the weaker ones were gotten rid of.
He lined up next to the existing slaves and once again a slave master walked along the line pulling people out of it, some of them screamed, begged and whimpered, that was the few things that he was good at understanding. Sin's eyes were focused on the crying people when someone grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the line, for a second he couldn't understand what was happening.
But then it hit him and he was unsure of what to do so he just stood there as stiff as a rock, his eyes focusing on the new slaves, every single one of them were beast men and all of them gave him impressed looks. But he gave no reaction as he was trying to keep his mind in control of what was happening as the people who also faced his predicament cried and wailed as if the life they were living was anything good.

The man passed again and stopped in front of him looking into his eyes, Sin looked straight into his eyes and the man flinched back earning a few laughs. A human woman that was dressed in a purple gown and had her red hair pulled up in a fancy bun, that was covered by an umbrella said something and Sin was shoved back. Sin still didn't react and just decided it was best to stay still until the other people were dragged off, lined up and shot, the woman clapping at the sight of it.
The new slaves were unshackled and then everyone was sent back to the building with the new slaves in tow and Sin didn't let out the breath he had been holding in until he was out of sight from the slave masters. He got back to his work now realizing that he only had two chimney's to look after and he felt much better knowing that. He shoveled and shoveled until it was time to melt the silver and when the silver to melt stopped coming and all the melted silver had been put in the boxes and hardened it was time to pack them.
Sin went over to the twenty five boxes of hardened silver that he had done on his own and walked past them going to a a pile of wood. He had to pick up eight pieces and place them over a box before holding them in place to hammer a nail through each end. He moved from box to box having to stop halfway to go and get more wood and nails before returning and finishing off the rest. When that was done he had to help move all the boxes to the loading area and then help move them onto the carriages that had steel reinforced floors and were drawn by oxen.
By the time they were finished night had fallen and the only thing that allowed them to see as they made their way to the sleeping area was the torches that the slave masters carried. Sin went to where his usual sleeping area had been since his arrival and climbed up on his bed so he could eat the food that was made for lunch along with his bread and water for dinner. And then set his bowl aside and drifted off to sleep.
*
Sin's eyes flew open and he almost yelled out when he was grabbed and pulled off his bed, by someone that was definitely not the woman that had been waking him every morning since his arrival and then it hit him, the place was still dark with only a few torches to light up the place. His ears was lit up with the sound of people yelling and he could see not too far away from him a fight was happening between two of the slaves who arrived today.
He could hear the slave masters yelling at them as they tried to calm them down, he moved to go see what had happened but the person that had pulled him off the bed yanked him back and covered his mouth. Sin threw his hands and feet and tried to get the person off of him but they just held him tighter and whispered something in his ear. He could barely understand a word but he instantly knew who the person was by the tone of their voice and that only made him fight harder.
He shook his head so much he got his face free and dug a bite in the person's hand and in return the same hand went around his neck placing immense pressure on it. Sin found himself gasping for air as he continued to fight the person but soon no air was getting in at all and his arms went limp before everything went black and he was out.
*
Fen sighed as he released his grasp from around Sin's throat feeling a sting of guilt because this was the second time he had hurt the child but he did intend to pay him back and it seemed the only way he could do it was by knocking the child unconscious. His ears flicked as he fixed the child in his arms and then refocused his attention on the commotion that unfolded a few beds away from them, he personally knew the two men that were fighting, one was a bear man like him and the other was descended from hares.
They had all came here under the guise of slaves for one sole purpose and that was to save his wife, sister, brother in law and the other adults that had gone missing from the camp while most of the men had went out on a hunting party. When they returned they were only lucky enough to find the children and a few of their pregnant women hidden away in the underground passage that was hiding under the main tent.
They had only found out where their people were a two months after the incident and came up with a plan to go get them happy that for some reason all of them had ended up in the mines. By the time they had created a way for them to be taken as slaves and had reached the mine two of their young men had been killed, but other than that everyone was safe and as healthy as they could be after living in these conditions.
He and most of his people lay in wait for the slave masters to run and fetch there guns and as soon as the first shot was fired all the best men turned their attention on the masters themselves.
