《The Shard Legacy》Chapter 1: Reincarnation

Four people started at each other, circling a stone circle in the center. The sun was setting in the distance, painting a red light upon them which set the mood. The rainbow trees that surrounded the stone circle, as well as the rocky and mountainous terrain it had barged in on, shimmered in the light, as old city buildings were seen around them peeking through.

And these four people have very serious expressions. One was a short boy with silver hair and red eyes wearing glasses, and appeared with magic in his hands. One was a taller girl with golden hair and rainbow eyes, holding a golden sword and wearing some fancy armor. One was a black haired boy with a powerful aura and noble appearance, a sword in one hand and mana flowing through the other. And the final one had a strange looking silver bow, pointed ears and although she seemed the same age as the others excluding the short boy, she had an air of maturity around her. Her green hair fluttered in the wind, as her blue eyes sized them all up.

"I cant allow you to do this...abandon these people" Rayheart said, weilding the power of her holy sword at the elven woman standing in front of her.

"This is not up for discussion. I have a duty, and I will see you all follow me home" Lutessa said, aiming her bow.

"I am afraid I cant let that happen. There is too much for us to lose, and too much for the others to lose out on from our guidance" the black haired boy named Raevin said.

"You idiots..." Rikuo, the boy in glasses said, his red eyes glaring out at them. "I just cant accept any of your dumb decisions"

"Says the one with the most dangerous idea of all".

"I wont let you get away with this either".

"You would invite death to our door!"

"So I guess in the end, none of us can really agree with each other".

The other three realized that as well. Standing at the edges of the stone circle, they all watched each other, as sounds could be heard in the distance.

"Then I guess...we will have to settle this now!" Rayheart said.

And so, the four reincarnators fought. But how did it come to this exactly? To answer that question, one must start at the beginning. That is, four years ago.

[Attention. Reclamation and use of soul has been accepted].

Uhg...what happened...what is that noise?

[Attempting to find suitable host subject. Special Reincarnation Method has been aproved by {Regent}]

Wait what?! HOld on, what is going on?! Let me out, let me see something! I cant move!

[{Rikuo} Status Generated. Reincarnation Confirmed. Beginning Memory Integration and Reincarnation Process. Good Luck!]

And then, the consciousness was stolen again.

Rikuo. A young boy who had been sold by his parents into slavery for some coin, even though they were already quite well for themselves. He was a boy who despite working hard, had no real special talent for a sword or a bow. Unfortunately, he eventually came into the possession of a female vampire, who abused and treated him as a toy or a pet.

At least that was the case, until a few years later, she became bored, and decided to turn him into a vampire, and make him her eternal pet while stripping away the last thing she could, his humanity.

However, even that got boring, and so one day, she just decided to kill him and throw him into the trash.

Only, even though he had been killed properly even for a vampire, he suddenly breathed a deep breath.

Rikuo, who should have died right then and there, suddenly came back to life.

"...so its that kind of reincarnation, huh?"

[Alert. An age at which proper activity can be done has been reached. Reincarnation successful]

And then Rikuo heard such a strange expression.

That said, it was all very jarring still, and he was having trouble keeping up with events. He was just wearing a simple shirt and shorts, but they were both ragged. He also seemed to be lying in what appeared to be a pile of rubbish. Not only that, but his sight was a bit blurry, making it hard to see unless he got some glasses.

In any case, the rather pathetic memories of his old life came flooding in, including what had happened to him.

"Wait hold on? So I am a vampire?" Rikuo asked, when suddenly, a transluscent screen appeared in front of him, with something that notoriously looked like a Status Screen. Furthermore, he could read it just fine without the need for glasses.

Name: Rikuo

Age: 13

Race: Ancient Vampire

Class: Sorcerer

Class History: Child

Skills: Space Magic 3, Water Magic 4, Storm Magic 5, Shadow Magic 4, Death Magic 3, Agile Movement 6, Enhanced Regeneration 9, Blood Arts 6, Summon Familiar (Special), Flight 4, Revival 3, Immortality (Special), Multi-Parallel Thought Processing (Unique), Cursecraft 10

Titles: Vampire Brat (Treated as a child, regardless if true age is known, unless is being treated as a monster) (Weak to holy magic and light magic) (Weakened in unfiltered sunlight without proper protection) (Excessive vampire charm) (Romance Difficulty severely increased) (Vampire Immortality, Cannot Age)

Reincarnator (Hidden) (Has memories of past life) (Enhanced Growth)

Special Conditions: Poor eyesight (needs glasses to see well), Exposed to Sunlight (Weakened status and abilities, will recover after awhile if one stays out of direct sunlight or has proper protection from sunlight)

First of all, he saw a major issue. Rather, right now, he was sitting in direct sunlight, and he didn't feel all that great. He immediately retreated into an area that was in the shade, and he started to feel a bit better, but it was not pleasant.

"...so, I only feel a bit sick? Is it that Ancient Vampire thing?"

He tapped Ancient Vampire, and suddenly some details came up.

Ancient Vampire: Less weak to sunlight then normal vampires or fledgeling vampires. High affinity for magic combat but not fire magic. Low affinity for physical combat. Is best known for their use of Shadow Magic, Blood Arts, and Cursecraft.

Well certainly, if I look at my skills, its a lot of magic, and very few combat related things. Also flight? That seems cool.

That said, he was currently penniless, and a vampire in a town. He had no connections at all, and he was pretty much going to stave to death (probably) if he kept this up. But he wanted to know about some of these abilities, so he kept investigating.

Cursecraft: A special skill that lets one combine magic they know into curses and place them on people. Conditions must be put to balance out the curse. A curse can be far more unfortunate if the person willingly accepts it or is at least tricked into accepting it. Curses available include making it so Shadow Magic will tear a person's heart several times over if they disobey conditions you place upon them. A basic curse that can be cast on its own is a Curse of Misfortune.

It was a blatently villainous skill.

Blood Arts: The ability to manipulate blood not inside yourself or a person. One can use this to form weapons or make defenses. It can also be used to help feed Ancient Vampires. Other applications are also possible.

That one was considerably less evil at least.

Immortality (Special): This special version is the Vampire special version. You cannot be defeated unless the opponent uses silver or adamantine weapons, or uses magic.

Revival: Revives from the dead. A nearly impossible skill to develop naturally. It involves being in a constant life and death situation repeatedly, literally at death's door multiple times, and sometimes dying and then being revived normally. The level of the skill determines how many times one can be revived in a day. After revival, there is a sixty second period of time where they are immune to death before getting killed again, so you should heal in that time so multiple revival charges are not consumed.

Revival should surprise people if heard about, but Rikuo remembered his previous torment as the hands of that vampire.

"Yeah no...that definently makes sense to have that skill..."

It occured to Rikuo his mind didn't seem to be in shock, like one would expect. He was just naturally accepting this. For some reason, he felt that the Reincarnator title in his status might be playing a role in that.

Still though...if he reincarnated, what about the others? And while thinking that, he may have overlooked some of the most important details of all about his status.

"Master! Master, are you alright?!"

As that was said, a young boy of about 13 years old began to wake up.

"What...happened?" he asked, feeling like crap.

[Alert. An age at which proper activity can be done has been reached. Reincarnation successful]

A strange voice was heard in his head suddenly, as he remembered what just happened, or at least the memories that flooded into his head.

And right now, he was laying on the floor, his head resting in someone's lap. He remembered his previous life, and also this current life. He had before been the best student in his class, before that crash or whatever happened. But now, he was in the body of Raevin Cromley, a prestigous Margrave family.

"Oh good...you must not have taken too much poison, for a moment we thought you died there".

Well, I did die, but that is besides the point now. Lets try not to do anything that draws too much attention or makes me seem weird for now, since I should investigate this world properly, and maybe find the others. Even if they are some of the troublesome classmates, at the very least I want to keep tabs on them...no, wait. Thats provided everyone reincarnated in the first place. Although if we did, we would not be the only ones.

The bus accident they had did not just involve them after all, but another vehicle. There was also the bus driver on their side, and given the traffic on that road, its possible others got caught up in it as well. As such, he had no way of accurately telling how many people were reincarnated. He also didn't know if it would be so easy to find them.

Well, that idiotic optimistic class president will probably stand out and do something stupid and obvious, so I should be able to find her...not that I want to. She was always pushy and bothersome. Still, I wonder exactly what my abilities will be in this world?

The moment he thought that, a status page appeared in front of him.

Name: Raevin Cromley

Age: 13

Race: Human

Class: Noble Child

Class History:

Skills: Leadership 5, High Speed Thinking 8, Flame Magic 6, Shadow Magic 7, Mana Recover 5, Mind Magic 3, Swordsmanship 5, Commander (Unique), Analysis Room (Unique)

Titles: Young Detective (People are more likely to listen to your deductions and reasonings) (Tends to get involved in mysterious cases more easily)

Heir to the Cromley Noble Title (Margrave) (Has increased authority and nobility) (Increased chances of being targeted by political enemies)

Reincarnator (Hidden) (Has memories of past life) (Enhanced Growth)

Special Conditions:

His status didn't quite have as much as Rikuo's, not that he knew that, but he also didn't have any of Rikuo's weaknesses, and many of his skills were overall a high level. Rikuo had the advantages, and disadvantages, of being a vampire, but Raevin had the advantage of having the power of a noble, with vassals and financial support.

However, his unique skills peaked his interest, not to mention that title. Certainly, it seems he had a great many things to learn and investigate. Plus, someone had just tried to murder him, so there was that matter too. He definently could not avoid that.

And as such, the thoughts of that idiot faded from his mind.

"ANd okay...looks like the reincarnation was successful" a girl's voice said as she stretched her arms.

Her name was Rayheart. Although surprising, in this world that is a girl's name. In fact, almost all given names that have Heart in it are girls names in this world apparently. In any case, she was stretching because she had woken up at the bottom of a cliff. It appeared she fell down, died, and then reincarnated into the body that just died. That said, the automated message made it sound like her memories and soul were always there, and the revival somehow happened for another reason. Maybe.

She wasn't all that good at thinking about complex things like this though, so she decided to just leave it as is for now. She did notice though, she could not remember her own original name, or the names of her classmates.

While trying to think of that though, a Status Page appeared.

Name: Rayheart

Age: 13

Race: Human (Hidden: Heroic Blood)

Class: Warrior

Class History: Child

Skills: Swordsmanship 9, Enhanced Vitality 5, Enhanced Strength 4, Regeneration 5, Holy Magic 9, Heroic Aura (Unique), Rally 7, Leadership 1, Holy Sword (Unique)

Titles: Future Hero (Hidden) (Enhanced Growth) (Resistance to curses and normal negative conditions) (Chosen One) (Beloved by Holy Creatures)

Reincarnator (Hidden) (Has memories of past life) (Enhanced Growth)

Special Conditions:

No matter how you looked at it, that status page had some ridiculous things on it. In the first place, why was Holy Sword even a unique skill in the first place?

However, she didn't question any of that, and was just excited.

"This is cool! Then I can go around and recruit the rest of my classmates, and we could become a group of legendary superheroes!"

She stated as such as if it was a certain fact.

"Ah...but I wonder what about sensei? She is technically our teacher...but I want to be the leader! Well, I am sure this will work out somehow!"

She stated such a thing while remembering the teacher.

And as for that teacher, she had woken up staring at an unfamiliar sky.

She was just as confused as the rest of them who were waking up, and couldn't quite hide it.

Especially since the place she had woken up on was a battlefield. She had been covered in blood, and she saw several people with pointed ears dead on the ground, as well as the corpses of several monsters.

And all of this was as she remembered her previous life and the current life at the same time.

But rather then thinking of herself, all she could think of was her students and safety, and as such, she had not once yet triggered the Status Page to appear.

And so, as Rikuo had begun his life in this new world, all of the others did the same.
