Chapter 8 – Return to the Sinful World

Also, most chapters will be in parts now. I'm running out of "Sin" titles, so I gotta reuse them.

Mature Warning- Mention of death

--* Soul Citadel, Underworld *--

“So, you’re awake,” a deep voice rumbled in his ears.

Grim’s crimson eyes slowly opened, an unfamiliar ceiling hung above him. Shifting his head, he looked to the side where a large man observed his actions.

“I lost huh…” Grim muttered the words as if they were filled with seething venom.

He lost. Again.

It was difficult for him to accept that fact, but that’s what it was. A fact.

“Just be glad you survived, you damn brat,” Satan exclaimed, as his own crimson eyes judged the man before him. It was already surprising for Grim to manage such an amazing feat, yet the man wouldn’t acknowledge that miracle. He knew of the Emissary of Wrath’s philosophy the moment he scanned Grim’s past.

Victory or death.

The world was in utter black and white to the man. That’s why Satan slightly hesitated when turning Grim into the existence he was now. It was a gamble that could decide the fate of the Underworld altogether.

“Well, now that you’re awake, I suppose it’s time I tell you of your duties and the price you have to pay as an Emissary of Sin,” the large man stood up and walked towards a window overlooking the citadel. Outside were hundreds of demons repairing the ruined courtyard, their minds filled with veneration and fear from what could have occurred to cause such damage.

Before he could speak, Grim’s voice interrupted, “How did I live?”

“The Emissary of Gluttony healed you,” Satan sighed.

“Now, to pay for the power I’ve bestowed upon you, I’ll be sending you to do errands for the citadel along with the other Emissaries,” he announced.

Grim slowly rose from the makeshift bed, his hand feeling his left shoulder, which was remarkably unblemished, “The Emissary of Gluttony huh… Well, what is this errand?”

“We need an information network in the Mortal world. We’ve been receiving information about rogue celestial and demonic beings haunting them lately, but our current information networks don’t cover the mortals very well. We need to obtain help from one of the organizations there,” Satan turned and looked at Grim with his crimson eyes, “and you’ll be in charge of protecting the diplomat.”

The pale man was silent. In his past life, Grim had murdered hundreds if not thousands of civilians, politicians, and criminals. It did not matter to him who it was and what method he used. Many of these victims tried to entice him with numerous amounts of valuables, such as money and jewels, but also information.

But never in his life had he heard about paranormal beings. Having been in the presence of hundreds of demons and even becoming one provided enough proof of their existence. Yet only now did their existence threaten the mortals.

“How long was I unconscious?” Grim asked; a thoughtful look dominated his face.

“It’s been a month since the day you battled with Michael, the Emissary of Pride,” the crimson-clad demon answered, amusement in his eyes, “The reports of supernatural beings only arrived a week ago.”

The information clicked in Grim’s mind, but it was only a mild curiosity. It didn’t matter to him what occurred in the background or what gears were spinning. His true goal was to obtain power. Enough so that he could prove his strength against the Emissary of Pride.

He couldn’t lose again.

“You’ll meet up with the Emissary of Lust at the courtyard and teleport to the mortal world with her. Do not fail this mission, or else many more would fall victim to these rogues. Though, I suppose you wouldn’t care,” Satan smirked as Grim’s face scrounged up and briskly walked away.

As the Reaper exited the dark room, Satan’s smirk fell. A serious look descended upon his face as his brows furrowed instead, “Grim Pareer, Grim Reaper or Grant Moloway, which identity will you succumb to? How will your fate play out?”

Beside him, an elderly lady appeared out of the darkness. If one were to look into her eyes, they would find profound knowledge, almost as if she knows everything in the universe. Though her looks were very human, her aura was filled with vile presence. It was an alluring and sweet aura, yet also an ungodly deceptive one.

“Satan, it isn’t like you to be interested in others,” she smiled pleasantly, her voice was like roses in the air.

“Naamah, don’t try your deception with me. The traitor of heaven, the pleasant demon. The one who corrupts. I wonder why you called his soul towards the citadel?” Satan said gruffly, obviously cautious around the elderly woman.

“Only time will tell, my dear. Only time…” she whispered, but instead of a sweet choir, her voice was haggard. As her words floated in the air like nails, the darkness surrounding her grew thicker, until the woman’s figure was no longer visible.

“My husband sends his regards…” her voice echoed out in the dark room though Satan couldn’t see her figure anymore.

In silence, he looked out of the window once again, watching the demons in the courtyard.

‘Just what are you planning, Samael?’

….

As Grim descended down the large tower, he thought about Satan’s words and why he felt so disgusted. Was he guilty about the innocent victims he killed? Why did he feel so irked?

The bloodied face of his parents flashed in his mind.

Their eyes cloudy and glossed over. The blood collecting on the floor as their necks bled out like a waterfall. He felt the happiness of the freedom he had given himself by killing the tyrants. The giddiness of being able to do everything his parents restricted him from doing.

But also… remorse…

Shaking his head, the Grim Reaper continued to walk down and reached the crowded courtyard. Numerous demons carefully watched him, shaking in fear. Many of them saw the battle between him and the Prince of Wrath while others heard of his terrifying might. Needless to say, they cleared a path for him, leading towards a beautiful woman standing in the middle of the courtyard.

Her violet eyes scanned him as he approached.

“Are you the Emissary of Lust?” Grim asked, unfazed by her sharp gaze and beauty.

The demons repairing the courtyard constantly licked her body with their perverted gazes though none of them dared to take action. And yet Grim did not seem to mind her looks. Lilith was quite surprised at the man’s self-control, yet her guard was kept high.

“Lilith. I’ll lead you to the Gate to Fenlei City. You’ll serve as my bodyguard,” without breathing, the woman sounded off as if she was unable to wait any longer.

“To Fenlei City huh…” the Reaper’s face grimaced. A welt of anger rose as he remembered the dark demon’s smirk, ‘That bastard…’

As the two walked in silence, the demons watched with respect and fear. One was a true beauty; her face glowed with unparalleled cuteness, but also maturity. Her steps were graceful and full of finesse, attracting spectators to her long, smooth legs. Though her breasts were quite quaint, all of the demons felt the desire to approach her and claim it for themselves. If it wasn’t for the threat of death.

Beside this treasure was a massive dragon. Grim radiated a dangerous aura, filling anyone who saw him with fear and dread. His muscles rippled with every movement, threatening to explode into a fatal strike. His pale skin only accentuated his eeriness, along with the two massive scars on his arm and neck. He truly deserved the title of the Harbinger of Death many demons had created for him after his battle with the Prince of Wrath.

These two individuals simply attracted the attention of any ordinary demonic citizen. However, neither of them paid attention to the audience.

Before them was a massive contraption, brimming with energy. As the two walked, they went deeper into the citadel were hundreds of Gates lay. Many of them led to different areas around the Underworld and Mortal Plane with a single portal into the Heavens.

Numerous souls continually spewed forth from them and collected in the red sky, where Limbo resided. Once a month, they would descend to be judged by one of the Princes for their sins, just like how Grim was judged by Satan.

Following Lilith, the Reaper stared at the souls flying overhead; an unexplainable urge to capture and consume them tempted him. Readying his body, he prepared to jump and engulf a soul to satisfy himself, but a voice distracted him, “Don’t even think about it.”

A pair of violet eyes glared at him, “We are still an organization. You are not exempt from the Rules of Devils. Only reap the souls of those you kill, unless one is in dire straits,” Lilith explained disdainfully.

Hearing the woman’s words, Grim felt disappointed. Seeing a feast in front of his eyes and being unable to partake in it truly pained him.

Seeing the man’s disgruntled face, Lilith slightly smiled, “Perhaps you would have been more suited as the Emissary of Gluttony.”

Before Grim could speak back, a flash of light suddenly erupted from one of the large gate-like constructs dotting the large field.

A large eye appeared before them, “Where to, Emissaries?”

It was a crimson red eye crafted out of what seemed to be raging flames. It was shaped like that of a cat’s, causing the feeling of eeriness to anyone who stared deep into for too long. This pressure did not affect the two, however, as Lilith’s melodious voice rose.

“Fenlei City.”
