《The Curse Among Us》Chapter 7: Unserved Justice

As the ray of sunlight shone into Alex's cell, he slowly wakes up from his dreamless sleep. He sits up from his thin blanket and rubs his eyes as he tried to remember what happened yesterday. Alex grunted in pain as his finger is still injured from yesterday's incident. He pinched his face to see if this is a dream or not. He hopes that he would just wake up from this nightmare, but as Alex pinches his face desperately, he realises this isn't a dream, this is reality. This is as real as it gets.
Suddenly, a guard enters the cell with a rusty iron handcuff. When Alex saw the guard, he tried to crawl away from him. But there's nowhere to run, he sticks himself against the walls and closed his eyes out of fear as the guard got closer to him. The guard forcibly grabs Alex by his arms, pinned him down and handcuffed him.
"LET GO OF ME!" Alex yelled as he tried to force his way out of the handcuffs.
As Alex struggled, the guard continued to drag him out of the cell and out of the prison. When Alex was out of the prison, he seemed surprised. From the outside, the prison gate stood fourteen feet high, walls made out of bricks and concrete, topped by barbed wires surrounded the entire prison compound. Despite it being his first time seeing what a prison looks like, he's more confused than shocked. He's confused about why he's in prison in the first place, as no one would tell him what he had done wrong. The only thing he knows is that he's in the prison because of his race.
Suddenly, the guard threw him into the back of a horse carriage and shut the carriage's door on him. As Alex crashes his head against the wooden floorboards of the carriage, he heard the sound of horses neighing vigorously before passing out.

Suddenly, Alex woke up in a courtroom. He tried to move, but couldn't as he's still handcuffed. He looks around as he silently observes the room around him. The courtroom looked like a typical courthouse, chiselled patterns covered the walls and ceilings. He looked to the front of the room to see a man, with what seems to be a white wig, holding a gavel and sitting in the judge's chair. Upon seeing this, it gave Alex a sour and cold feeling, as he knows that this place is built to punish people who had done something bad.
He noticed that there's a lot of people inside the courtroom. All staring at Alex with disgust and hatred. The look in their eyes sends a chill down Alex's spine.
"Why are they looking at me like this?" Alex thought as he stared back at the ground to avoid eye contact with the people around him, as he's terrified to look at them. "They all look so horrifying."
Suddenly, four more people walked into the room along with Alex's father. When Alex raised his head and saw his dad, he smiles as he thinks that he's safe.
"Dad-"
"SHUT UP!" Lance shrieked as he cuts off Alex. "YOU GODDAMN ACCURSED PSYCIAN! YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHTS TO SPEAK TO ME."
When Alex heard those words coming out of his dad's mouth, he was shocked, he had never been yelled at by his dad like this before. Alex immediately shuts up out of fear and stare back at the ground. He got so scared that he started shivering.
"It's okay Lance!" Gaius said as he tries to calm Lance down. "You didn't have to yell at that filthy psycian! You're wasting your energy."
"Right."
Then, the judge hit his gavel to get everyone's attention, everyone quiets down and looked at the judge. The judge then turns to look at a man with crimson red eyes and asked him.

"Mayor Rin. Shall we start?" The judge asks as Rin took a seat next to him.
"Yes, Judge Loius let's start the trial."
As Judge Loius hits his gavel again, the trial has officially started. Alex still has no idea whats the trial they're talking about. Alex nervously looks around as Judge Loius took out a document and began reading through it.
"According to the document, a few days ago, the defendant, Alexander Armstrong came into Pope Gaius's church along with the plaintiff, Lance Armstrong, to test his curse. Does the defendant have anything to say?"
"Huh? me?" Alex asked. "That's true but-."
"Alright," Loius said as he intentionally cuts off Alex, then proceeds to read off the document.
"What the hell?" Alex thought. "They didn't even let me finish!"
"After the process, the pope found the blood suspicious so he decided to take a sample of the blood and tested it. After testing it, the blood contains Manacular Blood Cell, a type of blood cell that only could be produced by Psycians. Does the plaintiff have any proof?"
"What?" Alex whispered as he couldn't believe his ears. "I'm... a psycian?"
"Yes, we do," Gaius said as he took out a bottle of Alex's blood and rests it on the table. "We even have blood samples."
As Judge Loius took a closer look, he noticed that the blood has a strange blue-ish texture in it. After looking at it, Loius nods and wrote something down on a piece of paper. Then continued reading the document.
"On 21st August 538, after the curse exanimation. The Plaintiff, Lance Armstrong, came into Pope Gaius's office and claimed that the defendant, Alexander Armstrong has been holding him captive for the past 7 years. Is that true? Pope Gaius?"
"What-?" Alex gasped as he couldn't believe the outrage claim that he's hearing. "I didn't-!"
"SHUT YOUR GODDAMN MOUTH PSYCIAN SPY!" Lance yelled as he stood up and slammed his hands against the table. "TAKE YOUR LIES AND-"
"Lance it's okay!" Gaius said as he tries to calm him down again. "There's no need to yell, we're with you in this one."
When Alex heard the words that were coming out of Lance's mouth, he's even more confused. He knows that he's clearly lying, but why? Why would he lie? These questions echoed through Alex's head as he's trying to process what just happened. He felt like he needs to speak up for himself, he wouldn't stand being treated like this.
"What do you mean I'm lying? You're the one that's lying!" Alex asked. "What Psycian spy!? I'm your son! Remember dad?"
After hearing all this, Pope Gaius felt as if rage is slowly flowing through him. Pope Gaius has been keeping his temper, but he couldn't bear Alex's 'lies' and completely lost his composure.
"SHUT UP PSYCIAN! ALL YOU KNOW IS TO LIE! YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH DAMAGE YOUR COUNTRY HAS DONE TO SOCIETY!" Pope Gaius yelled furiously. "IN OUR RELIGIOUS BELIEF IT IS YOU, PSYCIAN THAT CREATED THE CURSE, AND IT IS OUR DUTY TO PUNISH DEVILISH BEINGS LIKE YOU-"
Suddenly, Rin who stayed quiet during the whole trial finally stood up and stopped the commotion. He stood up as he claps his hand loudly to get everyone's attention. When Pope Gaius heard the sound of the mayor clapping his hand, he immediately sits down and tries to keep his temper, while looking very pissed and frustrated.
"This is certainly getting interesting, but I don't have all day you know?" Rin said enthusiastically. "But I've seen enough, I'll be deciding how the trial ends."

The Humble Life of a Skill Trainer
For Joshua Still, Skills were the lifeblood of his business. He wanted to understand them, collect many of them, and teach a few of them. Which was a problem because while his profession of a Skill Trainer was perfectly legal, it was frowned upon by most of the kingdom. After all, it wouldn't do for a non-tailor to teach Tailoring. Or, so says the Tailors Guild. The same could be said by the Blacksmiths, the Bakers, the Butchers, the Candlestick Makers, the Mages, and every other Guild with enough money and clout to complain. But still, Skill Trainers provide a valuable service, and so he has managed to start his business and keep it under the table. To a degree. With many a bribe. But his quiet anonymous life of research, practice, and training was about to change. When the Baron demands you pay him a visit, you have little choice.
