《The Life of a Goddess and a Fox in the Cultivation World》Chapter 4 - Meeting Bai Yue for the first time

Mortal Realm, Wilderness, Grade 1 Planet Gaia, Space City. After a few hours of shopping around in the biggest shopping district in the city, the family of three decided to return to the hotel to eat dinner before going to bed for a much needed rest. Although with their cultivation level, neither eating nor sleeping were necessary, they still enjoyed doing it. While they were riding a flying-taxi towards their hotel, unbeknown to them, the woman was still following them, thinking about what she discovered. “From what I've seen so far, they seem like decent people...Mmh... I shouldn't have a problem exposing to them the reason why I came to them. Hopefully the seal is not refined by one of the parents. It would be awkward having to cultivate with one of them, especially the man.” She pondered. “I need to find an excuse as to why they would let me cultivate with their son if he is the one. After all, I can't force them or I would lose the seal. That would be a waste.” From the couple's conversation, she noticed that they talked about finding a Cultivation Scripture adapted to their son. “Since he has that Bloodline, it would be a waste to make him cultivate a Mortal Layer Scripture. Even if higher level scriptures are more complicated, they will make his foundations stronger and that will help him reach a higher level.” She kept thinking when it suddenly dawned on her. “Of course! I could become his teacher!” She exclaimed in her mind. “That way, not only will I be able to help him cultivate faster, but also protect his parents. From the fact that they used a Disguising Pill, they should be hiding from someone. From what I remembered, the Darkness and Light Fox Tribes were two Peak tribes. So if that didn't change and by taking into account the fact that they brought their child with them and their cultivation level, I can make a few guesses.” She started to make assumptions about the situation. “If their enemies are outside of their tribes, they should be at least several peak organizations or peak mortal cultivators. If they are inside, that means their own tribes are against them. I wonder which situation it is.” She thought. After pondering for a while, she decided to go talk to them. “If I can protect them from their enemies, they will let me teach the boy. I'll go talk to them now.” When the husband, wife and child exited the taxi in front of their hotel, the woman landed close to them and disabled her invisibility. The two of them, shocked to see a masked woman in combat attire appearing out of nowhere, immediately positioned themselves in a fighting stance with Guang Hua behind Hei Qiang holding the baby in her arms. “She could have attacked us while she was invisible, and she doesn't have killing intent, so she might not be an enemy. But if she decides to attack, I'll distract her for as long as I can while you take little Yang and run away.” He immediately said to his wife through his Divine sense. Seeing the two tensed up from her abrupt appearance, the woman decided to clear their misunderstanding right away. “I am not your enemy.” She said in a voice devoid of emotion. “I only wish to talk with the two of you.” After she said that sentence , she released a bit of her aura. “If I wanted to hurt you, you wouldn't be able to stop me.” Feeling an aura even more powerful than the Supreme Elders of their respective tribes emanating from the woman in front of them, a bit of cold sweat started to drip down their backs. Hei Qiang, keeping his poker face, replied while cupping his fist in a respectful manner. “Since senior wish to talk to my wife and I, we'll be happy to oblige. Why don't senior follow us to our private villa?” She nodded while replying succinctly. “I'll follow you.” Following that remark, the group entered the hotel and walked towards the villa. After a few minutes of walking they reached the door of their accommodation. Unlocking it with their Holo-Bracelet, the family went through the entrance with the mysterious woman. After which, Hei Qiang said to his wife out loud. “You should bring little Yang to bed while I begin talking to senior.” While talking to her telepathically. “Be ready to run anytime.” She replied similarly.”I hope I won't need to.” Out loud she followed his lead. “Ok.” That's when the woman said. “No need, the baby is also concerned with what I have to tell you.” Her remark stupefied them. “What would she want with little Yang?” They thought. Since she expressed her wish and not wanting to make her an enemy if they did not have to, they guided her to the tea room and invited her to sit on one of the sofa. The woman looked a bit around the place and nodded slightly, recognizing the taste put in it. While she was looking around, Hei Qiang started to prepare a pot of tea and Guang Hua was seated on the sofa opposite her with the baby in her arms. Returning the gaze to the mother and child in front of her, she noticed that he was staring at her while smiling. When he caught her looking at him, he started to wiggle his arms and laughing, seemingly happy that she paid him attention. After a few minutes of silence that felt like years to the couple, the tea was ready and he set two cups in front of the two women before sitting at his wife's side with his own. He then started asking. “May we know why senior wished to talk to my family and I?” Listening to the question, she answered while making her seal appear. “I assume one of the three of you have the other one. Presumably your child?” She then followed in her usual cold voice by a warning, seeing them ready to deny. “Don't bother denying it. Since I refined this seal I can feel the existence of the other one. I'm just not sure which of the three of you has it.” Indeed, the signal transmitting from the other seal became blurry such that she could not find out who possessed it among the three. “Do the two of you know of its effects?” They shook their heads, confirming the woman's guess that the baby was the one with the seal. “Let me enlighten you then. That way you'll understand what I want from you. To make it simple, the name of the two seals set is Dual Yin Yang Seals. They are used to boost the cultivation speed and law comprehension of the the who refined them. However, the closer the two are, the better the benefits for both. There may be other benefits, but I haven't discovered them yet.” She explained to them. “That is why I wish to become his teacher. That way the two of us would benefit. Also, I can help protect the three of you from your enemy. That way you won't have to hide by using those Disguising Pills.” Surprised by the fact that she could see through the Pill's disguise, since it was a Level 9 Disguising Pill and it was supposed to be foolproof against even a Peak Mortal Cultivator, they notified her of their enemies' power. “It's not that we wish to doubt senior's power, but our two respective tribes are against us, which means we might even have the Supreme Elders of the two tribes against us. Can Senior beat two Peak Mortal Layer Cultivators?” She replied with a frosty tone in which a bit of disdain could be heard. “Whether weaklings are small or big, they still are weaklings. To this Empress, Mortal Cultivators are just insects, so there's no need to worry about them.” The couple looked at each other with stupefaction and a bit of hope. After nodding to each other as if they made the biggest gamble in their life, which was pretty close to the truth, they looked back to her. Guang Hua then asked. “May we know senior's name?” To which the woman answered. “My name is Bai Yue.” Guang Hua said. “Senior Bai, since you agreed to take little Yang as your disciple, we need to tell you a bit of our story so that you understand what you're getting into.” Bai Yue replied. “Go ahead.” “First my name is Guang Hua from the Light Fox tribe, my husband here is Hei Qiang from the Darkness Fox tribe and this is our son Guang Yang with the Life Fox Bloodline. Both of my husband's and my tribe are not on the best of terms, although not outright enemies. Despite our tribes' differences, we were both deeply attracted with each other the first time we met and after a few years of getting to know each other better by adventuring together, we fell in love with each other. Following becoming a couple, we decided to wait until we become Inner Elder (around level 8 Mortal) in our tribes to have children, that way we wouldn't have to bother with the annoying and nosy people trying to tell us what to do. Unfortunately, an 'accident' happened and I got pregnant with Little Yang when we only were outer Elders (around level 7). A few months later, Little Yang was born with both the Darkness and Light Bloodline. We were both very happy, since from the bloodline concentration that we could sense from him, he would definitely become the most talented genius in the history of both of our tribes and maybe have a chance to become an Immortal Layer Cultivator. However, while we were celebrating together with the maids around us, a seal came flying through the window and disappeared when it reached close to little Yang. After a few seconds of nothing happening, a change finally appeared on Yang'er. We could feel his bloodlines changing from Darkness and Light to something more powerful, more ethereal. When the change finished, the two weaker bloodlines disappeared and a new one appeared. We could feel the life aura emanating from it and thanks to an obscure book I had read a few decades ago, I deduced that his bloodline evolved into the Life Fox Bloodline, which was an Immortal Layer Bloodline. That pretty much guaranteed that he would reach the Immortal Layer, which was even better for us. But that's when everything started to go wrong.” She then stopped recounting her story for a moment to let it sink in, while her husband was playing with the child, seemingly not paying attention to what she was saying. A fact obviously denied by his lightly furrowed eyebrows. As for Bai Yue, she stayed silent, with her facial expression hidden behind her mask. After taking a few sips from her tea to re-hydrate her throat, dry from all the talking, she resumed her story. “What we didn't know was that the Supreme Elders were at the end of their lifespan, having at most two to thee hundred years to live. For low level cultivators, it may be a lot, but for a Peak Level 9 Mortal with an aeverage lifespan of 30.000 years, it was not enough. Also, since they pretty much used every means they could to expand their lifespan, including incredibly rare Pills, and had no way to naturally breakthrough to the Immortal Layer, they were looking for methods to do it with external help. It was the only way for those two shameless old ghosts to extend their lifespan. That's when they heard about Little Yang. Although we said nothing about his bloodline to anyone in the tribe, a maid placed there by an Inner elder from the Darkness Fox tribe to spy on us noticed it. That Elder tried to kill us once when we got a treasure he wanted. He fortunately failed and we escaped. However his position in the tribe and the lack of evidence, meant that we could nothing against him. But that would change quickly when we reached the position of Inner Elder. That's why he placed the spy in our mansion to find a way to get rid of us. Anyway, following the discovery and knowing the technique of Bloodline assimilation he reported to the Supreme Elder the news while advising him to use the latter technique. Knowing that we would disagree, since our child would die if it was used, but wanting to make sure of both our deaths he also contacted the Supreme Elder of the Light Fox tribe.” She again took a break, clearly needing to gather herself for the rest of the story. Bai Yue then said with certainty in her voice. “Let me guess. Those two old farts sent a few people, asking you to hand over your son. You disagreed, and since they didn't accept your answer, a fight started.” “Pretty much, yes.” She nodded in confirmation. “We killed all of them and afterwards since we knew we had to leave quickly before stronger tribe members arrived, we gathered our belongings and left our Mansion. While I stayed in the spaceship that I used when I needed to fly incognito, Qiang went to steal from the two tribes' treasure vaults.” She added after. “The strongest cultivators were thankfully not in the tribes due to a Hidden Realm appearing a few days prior, which they decided to explore, so it went without a hitch.” “Afterwards, for a full month, we kept evading our pursuers when we could and fought with them when we couldn't. Although we incurred a few injuries, we successfully escaped them to this day. We just don't know until when it can last.” Pondering for a few seconds, Bai Yue asked. “Do you know what method they used to track you?” Guang Hua gave an answer lacking in certainty. “We're not sure. Our guess is they can track us through our bloodline and we don't know how to avoid that. The good thing is they can only track Qiang and I since little Yang has a different bloodline.” Bai Yue then replied with her beautiful but cold voice, her emotion almost completely hidden as usual.”If they are using that method then I have a way to help the two of you hide your bloodline from others. Their technique will then become useless. Although, it will take a few hours to do it for the two of you...Mmmhh... Why don't we do it tomorrow since it's quite late?” Guang Hua replied with happiness apparent on her face. “Of course, of course! If senior Bai doesn't mind, we can rent another Villa for you.” Yue denied her proposition. “No need. I can use one of the room in your villa.” Hua then said. “As you wish. Qiang, little Yang and I will sleep in the same room and senior Bai can use little Yang's room.” “Ok.” After guiding Bai Yue to her room, the family of three decided to go to bed. The encounter with Bai Yue and the recalling of the difficulties they faced recently exhausted them despite their high cultivation. Also, since little Yang slept in the same bed than the couple they couldn't 'practice dual cultivation' together. That's why, they simply opted to sleep. A night then passed uneventfully. In the morning, the couple woke up together with their son crying for milk. A demand quickly answered by his mother who proceeded to breastfeed him while her husband went to order some breakfast for his wife, Bai Yue and himself. After leaving his room, he went to knock on Bai Yue's door to ask her what she wanted for breakfast and receiving her response, he went to the dinner room and started preparing some tea while ordering some breakfast through his Holo-Bracelet. A few minutes afterwards, the two women arrived at almost the same time in the room with little Yang in Guang Hua's arms. He then went to receive the food he ordered at the door and they proceeded to eat with the couple chatting with each other, while Bai Yue was listening to the side and sometimes briefly intervening in the conversation. *************** Mortal Realm, Wilderness, Grade 1 Planet Gaia, Space City, Planetary Port. While the four people were eating breakfast, a group of a dozen people wearing full black or white clothes with a similar fox symbol knitted on the left side of the torso exited the Planetary Port with an official in tow, a fawning expression on his face. “Seniors don't have to worry, as our council will do the best we can to help you find the people you're looking for. However, we checked the pictures you sent us and no one fit the description. As for the other information such as a couple with a baby, we have a dozen matches. Should we check them one by one?” The official asked trying to please the group. “No need. We'll just follow the signal received from our technique.” Guang Lin said arrogantly. Although she was only an Inner Elder, the Core Elders Guang Ao and Hei Yin Xiang did not wish to deal with an insignificant character from a Grade 1 Planet, in consequence they let her and Hei Zu, the other strongest Inner Elder, deal with him. Hei Yin Xiang then said. “Let's not waste time and fly there. Also, one of you take that man with us.” As soon as he finished talking they all took off flying, with one of the weakest Inner Elder dragging the official through the air with his mana, in the direction of the hotel where the group of four were currently chatting together, oblivious of the oncoming threat.

Tales from the Triverse
Tales from the Triverse is part detective drama, part fantasy adventure and part space opera. I’m influenced by the likes of Iain M Banks, Isaac Asimov and ND Stevenson and work including The Wire and Gotham Central. It begins with an incident two hundred years ago which crashed three parallel universes together. Portals open up in 18th century London, sending England down a very different path. We pick up events in the 1970s, with the Metropolitan Police having established a new department to handle portal-related criminal activity. The story is about intolerance, immigration, multiculturalism and power. It’s about what happens when incompatible viewpoints are weaponised to seed discontent, and the efforts of some to create a fairer world. In the tradition of the best science fiction, fantasy and crime fiction, I’m using the setting to examine themes that matter to me in the real world. Who is it for?If you like science fiction or fantasy, or a mix of both, this is for you. It’s my first foray into crime fiction, but I hope if you’re a fan that you’ll enjoy yourself - especially if you’re looking for something a bit different. I write fiction that is optimistic, progressive and empathetic. Bad things can happen to good people in the stories, but the overall arc tends to be hopeful. Note that if it were a movie, Tales from the Triverse would be a 15 certificate in the UK.
