《Exceptional Normalcy (A Pokemon Fanfiction)》CH14 - Progression

The following week was full of surprises. Bidoof and I were able to overcome our differences and slowly began to bear the presence of each other. Our training regime was in full swing and the results were astounding. We worked out a wide variety of attack patterns each linkable with the next. The focus of our attacks was on swift hits and evading the enemy. Bidoof seemed to like this type of fighting and happily trained his reaction speed. I held protocol for everything it did. In our free time, we would go around town while playing pranks on other people and pokemon. The distress of the others filled us with warmth. The progress of my ability helped us out immensely.

I would meditate and focus on my spirit but soon realised that it didn't work. So I tried a range of different things. I was training to exhaustion, watch horror movies in complete darkness, thinking about my teacher in battle theory which worked surprisingly well. I thought about what exactly triggered my power and concluded that it was wrath. The deep hatred that I held for her was so strong, it allowed me to channel the spiritual energy inside of me. I tried to feel at the same intensity with other emotions and could confidently say that it worked with others. This also showed much about my mental state which was worrying, to say the least.

It was easy for me to feel angry, jealous and arrogant while it was hard for me to express happiness, sadness and fear in greater amounts. I experimented with my range of emotions until I found the right mix that I was able to trigger at will. This process took almost the whole week and I was really happy with my accomplishments. The ability to produce this black smoke was nothing in comparison to controlling it. It obeyed my commands, forming into any shape I thought of. I still didn't know how I could make use of it, however.

I also made some progress in school, learning more about the world I lived in, about in-depth knowledge and little snippets of information which could help an aspiring trainer in the future. I also befriended the potentially Dragon-boy, exchanging training methods and other things. His name was Constantine it seems and surprisingly he wanted a Dragon pokemon, who would have known. I even cleverly asked if other people in his family were training them. I found out that his family was, for many past generations, a family of Dragon trainers. My next question was obviously if he was related to Lance. He gave a short laugh but denied my assumption. I asked him if he knew of his awakened ability at which he returned an empty stare followed by him asking how I knew about it. It seemed that he was, like me, keeping his power a secret. I explained to him how I have come to my discovery and to make it fair told him of my own ability. It was his turn to ask questions and his first was if any of my relatives were accomplished trainers. The constant smirk on my face cracked and told him of my situation. He apologised for his mistake but the moment was already over.

At the end of the week, we once again held the tourney and this time the competition wasn't as easy as last time. The, let call them 'normal', children in our class, finally caught up and were able to successfully command their pokemon. But let's be real, they had no chance and were destroyed by us four. Each of us had built up their own strategy and used it to effectively win our fights.

Sergeant Scarlet as I have named her, grew bored by our display. She said that she was proud of our progress but wanted to challenge us. She suggested that we tried a double battle and let us draw lots to partner up. I was together in a team with the girl. Her name was Lorette and she dreamed of becoming a pro-coordinator. Her pokemon was a Budew which looked quite strong. Scarlet gave us 10 minutes in order to formulate a strategy. We decided that Bidoof would annoy the enemy while Budew would spread its spore attacks. The both of us had malicious smiles on our faces when we entered the battlefield.

And as we predicted, our team won. Our opponents bickered throughout the whole fight and made it too easy to win. For the display of teamwork that we showed our teacher even awarded us with extra points. By all means, I was very satisfied with my progress until now and couldn't wait to see what the future had in tow for me.
