《Exceptional Normalcy (A Pokemon Fanfiction)》CH13 - The Unfairness Of Life!...And Other Things

The following weekend was quite enlightening for my progress in my Ghost-type Abilities. I tried out different meditation techniques and looked out for differences. Some of them had better results than others and I was happy with looking out for similarities. My ability was mostly a conjunction of a certain state of mind and my willpower. Additionally, I meditated in order to stay relaxed.

It took me a few hours to feel a difference and then, only for a moment I saw the black smoke again. The only difference was, that it was less black and more purple. I was completely shocked because of it and sadly lost my composure. The smoke quickly dissipated and left no trace of its existence behind.

I gave up for the day and took out the Pokeball of Bidoof. I went down the stairs while passing by the other occupants of the orphanage. I greeted the ones I knew well and quickly made my way down. I gave one of the staff members a short explanation where I was going and was already on my way to one of the municipal parks in the city. I was swiftly walking down the street passing by different kinds of buildings. It took me around 20 minutes to arrive at the park. I could see a group of young children playing in the playgrounds and some families having a picnic. I was getting jealous at that but quickly becoming angry at myself for thinking like this. I continued by ignoring the people around me and was busy with looking for a great training spot.

I finally found a good one and released Bidoof out of its ball. It was confused for a moment but came to a conclusion and gave me an annoyed look.

"Ok, here's the deal. We will train the Headbutt-attack for a few hours and I will buy you a snack on the way home, deal?" The Bidoof made a thinking pose for a few seconds and then raised two claws. "T-two! Ok, but then you also have to try and combine it with Rollout when you're finally able to do it." This went on for a few rounds until we both were satisfied. The end result was two snacks and a night outside the Pokeball for 3 hours of Headbutt training and 1 hour of attack combination.

For the following hours, Bidoof was trying to headbutt the shit out of a tree while I was still attempting to make my own powers work. By the end, it was clear that Bidoof had more success than me. The training then continued with me timing the combination of Rollout and Headbutt, if I gave the command too early, Bidoof would use the built-up momentum to tumble against the target which looked hilarious by the way and if I gave the warning too late, it wouldn't be able to brace itself for the impact. It took us a few tries and some Headbutts into my midsection but we finally were able to perform it. It was a really touching moment and we were both very proud of Bidoofs success. I gave it a promise of 3 whole snacks and beckoned it to follow me.

The sun was already down when I was making my way through the city. Bidoof and I passed many streets and finally arrived at the PokeMart. As I entered the shop I could see that it was still bustling with activity. I made my way to the food section and stood with Bidoof in front of the shelf filled with snacks and treats. "You earned it, you choose it. But don't forget you can only take three." While it was busy with weighing down the different choices, I was watching the Trainers going around the shop. Most of them looked tired and made me question their state of health. Not that I had any right to scrutinize them while I myself looked like a character out of a horror film, most of the time. Bidoof made a loud noise to get my attention and presented its final choice of tribute. I could feel

something inside of me breaking, as I read the prices of the snacks. I gave the little shit an angry glare. "Did you do that on purpose? Since when are you able to read? Or do you have a sense for expensive things?" It gave me an innocent look but I could see something evil in its eyes. "Are you sure that you are not a Dark-type?" It gave me a firm shake of its head and hinted in the direction of the checkout counter. I made way over while grumbling about snobby pokemon and their sadistic tendencies.

I was short of crying blood when I looked at the state of my wallet, it felt so empty. With a heavy heart, I made my way back to the orphanage with a happy little Bidoof in tow. I didn't take us long to arrive and passed the kitchen on the way to my room. I took a few snacks of my own and arrived as quietly as possible in my room. I was eating my cheap stolen food while watching the pokemon in front of me happily eating some kind of deluxe snack. In what kind of world was I living in again?
