《Exceptional Normalcy (A Pokemon Fanfiction)》CH6 - My New Home?

The interior of the place was not a colourful as the exterior. Everything was overly orderly and screamed professionalism. I could see a group of children running around the living room, which was almost all of the first floor. There was quite a number of cushions lying around the room and a flat screen was fitted on a wall. The old lady was waiting next to a staircase and seemed to wait for me. After a moment, I walked up to her. We took the stairs up to the third floor walked down the right corridor and stopped in front of one of the doors.

"This here will be your room, you can do with it as you please but just so you know. The moment you leave this place you have to return it to its former appearance. Curfew is at 8 pm, so please, try to stay quiet after that. Breakfast will be served from 6 to 6:30 in the morning. You can make your lunch yourself or work something out with the other children. Dinner will be held from 6 to 7 in the evening. You have one week to decide on a school you want to attend. It is required of you to visit one, no exceptions!

Should have any needs or have a problem, please, come to me or one of my coworkers. We will help you as best as we can. I ask you in return that you will act on your best behaviour and try to get along with the others. I will now excuse myself and leave you alone. I hope that you will feel yourself at home here with us. I will see you at dinner.", she finished her, probably rehearsed, speech and left me to my own devices. I returned my attention back to the door and entered my new room.

It was nothing special, a medium sized bed here, a wardrobe there and a desk along with a chair in front of a big window. I put my bag down on the bed and took out the folder, which I placed soon after on the desk. //I have two choices. Finalising my future plans or looking around the building. Argh! I need to finish this first. The sooner I'm done, the quicker I will be free to do as I want.// With my decision made I sat down on the chair and started to map out what I want to do.

The trainer school was a must but I also planned to take some courses on botany, cooking and camping. First aid wouldn't be wrong either. It took me till dinnertime but I was finally done. The scope of this list scared me a little bit. With that done, I left my room and looked for the caretakers' office. I found it right next to the living room. I knocked on the door and waited. Soon after I heard a loud 'Come in' and walked inside. There was a desk in the middle of the room. I could see the old lady sitting behind it and when I walked up to her, did she look up. She seemed a little surprised when she saw me but took on a knowing look when she saw the pages in my hand.

"So I presume that you made your...choices for what you want to do."

"Yes, please take this list. It has all fields of study I am interested in."

She seemed a little shocked when she saw how long the list was, but quite jolly when she what was written there.

"You seem to have thought that very thoroughly. While I think that some of the things here are completely unnecessary or rubbish, I will approve of it. It will take me a few days to get all of the forms. I can tell that you will have not one free moment for a very long time. I hope you are aware of that." She shot me an uncertain glance. "Please don't worry, I know what I'm doing." I gave her a smile that was screaming 'You can trust me on that'.

She continued to ask many more questions and I tried to answer them as best as I could. It wasn't long until it was time to eat. We went to the dining room and there I was introduced to the other orphans. Some asked questions for which I didn't have an answer. Where are you from? What happened to your parents? Why do you look so weird? That last question hurt certainly the most. The food was very tasty, which didn't say much when you only know the one from the hospital. *shudder* I was so nice and helped out with doing the dishes. //Plates! Plates everywhere!// It was nice enough with all the other children around, even if most of them had this depressive presence around them. I can't even pretend to understand how they feel.

Then the curfew began and we all had to return to our rooms. I planned to stay up a little longer in order to give my future plans the finishing touch and by the time I was done it was already midnight. With heavy steps, I wriggled myself into my bed and let the sleep take over.
