《My Life as a Farmer in Another World》Chapter 7 - Classes, Levels and Skills

Alice gave Luke a book that she wrote as a birthday present. She figured that if she was going to have to explain how the world worked and more things about magic. Luke would need to know about skills, classes, and magic.
Luke was very excited to open the book that Alice had given him. He even asked to skip training for the day so he could learn even more about magic. Every year she had explained more and more to Luke about how magic worked but she had told him that she would only teach Luke about classes and levels once he got to age 10. He was desperate to learn more about this world. He needed to know, otherwise Luke knew he would end up dead or as a pet of some higher power. He had seen all of his favorite characters in the Dark-Hunter series being tormented and enslaved because they had been stupid or trusted someone who they shouldn’t have trusted. Some of his favorite characters had been enslaved by a higher power to just exist as a battery because they were stupid and got caught by their enemies and Luke was not about to let that happen to himself.
Luke already knew that magic existed all around them, that was the first lesson. The second he got was that magic can be controlled, it can be given commands to form things if the commands are detailed enough and have a visual representation associated with them. Luke’s third lesson from Alice was that if you practice magic, you could get better at it. The fifth lesson he remembered was that the more physically capable you are, the more magic you can wield, it also depended on if you were born with higher magical abilities. The example that he had gotten from Alice was that if you were born to be able to use certain units of magical powers in a day, you could only use that much but that can be increased by using magic regularly. The lesson on classes and levels was what Luke was about to read.

“Classes: given at the age of 10, cannot be changed. The gods will usually grant the wish of a person to be in a certain class or if they had any subconscious feelings about a certain class. For example, if a child wanted to be an adventurer when he grows up, he will usually get a class as a warrior, healer, mage, or some sort of combat class. On the 10th birthday, a child is given a class and they obtain a skill for their class. The skill is randomly given. The child starts at level 1 and each year the level in that class increases by 1. Levels increase with time, contributions to the class, feats that are heroic, and by killing monsters. A person is able to learn skills of the class given but only 1 skill is given every 20 years or so. Each person usually gets different skills even if their classes are the same. Skills and their effects can only be discovered by the person using the skill. ”
That was all that was given to Luke. This was a lot of things. He needed to figure out what each thing meant and do a thorough analysis of each line in the text. He needed to test things, find out if there were other things that are missing in what Alice wrote. Maybe in this world, with no internet and no cell phones had a lack of information. What benefit is there to levels if only the age of the person determined if a person got a skill or not? The last sentence was very vague, although he got a skill, he didn’t know to use it, did it just happen if he thought about it, or do they work passively? Luke had a lot to learn and all he could do now was start with questions because if he is going to survive in this world, he will need to know a lot more than just some information given to him by Alice. For all he knew, she could be hiding things or not even telling him enough about classes, magic, and levels. Luke felt that he could trust Alice but at the same time, he felt that he needed to get more knowledge. If the only source of his information is a hot elf woman who made him want to wish she was his. “Stop having horny thoughts, Luke”, that’s all he could tell himself the past few years because he was in the body of a 10-year-old. Lately, he was getting horny by the day. It probably had something to do with his body finally starting to realize that a drop-dead gorgeous elf was under the same roof as him or he was going through puberty soon. Luke liked to think it was just his body being slow. “Focus!”, he told himself. Luke decided that he needs to learn a lot more and the only way is through books. He heard that the capital is a big place with a lot of stores and libraries, so that was going to be his new mission. He would just have to wait or ask to be taken there because he had no money and he probably wouldn’t be allowed to go that far away from home.

A few days later. James walked into Luke’s room and told Luke that he was going to take him to the capital to meet his family. Little did James know, Luke had been planning on asking him to go because he was starting to feel like he was a college kid who had been given a research project but he had no sources. This was the chance Luke had been waiting for the past few days while testing out his magic and his class ability “Fast Growth”, just as Luk suspected he was able to grow things fast. The grass he planted 3 days ago had grown to look like it was a month old.
The next day, Luke and James got on their horses and headed to the capital on the small path that left outside of the village next to the farm. Luke was finally going to see Notoria soon.

This is a fanfic set in the universe of They Are Smol, a delightful series of stories by TinyPrancingHorse which you should totally go and read. After many successful investigations, Oscar Williams has his loyalty to his adopted alien family sorely tested. What appears to be a simple theft turns out to be anything but, and to capture the perpetrators Oscar might just have to betray his own species… Formal Disclaimer: I do not take credit for the original setting, this story is set in an alternate version of the 'They are Smol' universe, written by the one, the only TinyPrancingHorse TPH takes many forms and is known by many names. He is like Nyarlathotep, only smaller and cuter and more prancey. TPH also has a website should you require more Smol Shenanigans in your life. Which you do, so get over there and read it.
