《Ninth World Lia's Struggle》ch 71

Half a year has gone by since I entered the academy and to tell the truth nothing interesting has happened. I kept going to class and doing hunts with Tiff and Sophy. If anything is worth mentioning is that I have skipped quite a few ranks in magic class up to rank seven. If I’m not wrong I should manage to get to rank ten by the end of the year.
Of course my success with magic and powerful melee capabilities have earned a few bothersome titles like genius or prodigy. They are bothersome because some snotty noble brats got the bright idea to try and push their weight around so I would do their beeding. Let’s just say their pride wasn’t the only thing that got broken.
As of now, we are about to enter break time. On earth it would be summer break but in this country there are no seasons so it’s just called mid-year break. What is worth noting of this mid year break is that a special event is held at the coliseum. You guessed it right folks, it's the other world combat tournament. In this case it’s called the mid-year grand warrior selection.
You can participate as long as you are an adult which in this world like medieval earth it’s at the age of fifteen. Students from the academy tend to participate as well since it's a great opportunity to gain glory and fame. The rules are very simple, everything, and I mean about everything is allowed. Poison? sure, traps? why not? The only catch is that you can’t receive external help after the match starts. Not to mention attacking your adversary before a match and such.
“Hey Amelia, I am guessing you will be participating as well”
Sophy’s words dragged me out of my thoughts. Class has just ended and as per usual I wasn’t paying that much attention to it.
“Of course I will, do you think I will skip such a great opportunity to fight strong people?”
“Ever the battle junky are you?”
“For your information I wasn’t like this before”
“Sure”
I wasn’t lying there. When I got to this world I wasn’t one to enjoy battles but after everything I have been through changing was inevitable. On another note, this was the last class before the break so I can finally do whatever I want for the following month!
For starters I am planning on solo diving into a dungeon while I wait for the tournament to start. Why solo diving instead of going with Tiff and Sophy? Well lets just say I want to let loose and go wild.

I have discovered that ever since I fully fused with wrath losing myself to my emotions is harder. I am guessing this is because before we fought over myself that cause instability. I know it sounds odd that fully fusing with a devil that is the representation of wrath would make me calmer but that is how it is. It’s not to say that I am not violent, that should be obvious enough.
“So how deep are you gonna go this time?”
“If possible you should try to reach the bottom”
The two sentient swords on my back commented as I began my dive into the dungeon. This one consisted mostly of mutated plant type monsters. Of course, like any other dungeon you could still find undead here and there. As for how deep I was planning to dive this time, I am not sure.
“Well, the preliminaries for the tournament will start in a week so how about I just rush none stop for four days and then rush back in three?”
“Sound good to me”
“Second that”
With a plan that wasn’t much of a plan I unsheathed the both of them and began my descent. First and foremost I simply let go of my restraints letting the thick miasma sip into my body fueling it with what seemed an unlimited amount of power. My soul transformed all that corrupted mana into pure life force which I used to tear and rip my foes apart.
The first floors were a walk in the park as no monster could even attempt to defend themselves from my mad rush. The best part of it all was that even though the monsters became stronger and more hideous the deeper the miasma also became thickening providing me with even more fuel for my mad slaughter.
By the time I came to my senses I day had gone by and had already surpassed the twenty-seventh floor. Two bosses had been killed without me even noticing. This deep down the miasma was thick enough I could feel my entire body pulsing with it as something akin to a black fog surrounded my body.
Every time I dove into a dungeon I could feel my core working in tandem with my soul to absorb the miasma using it to change my body. The changes couldn’t be seen with the naked eye but I could tell that from a genetic point I was no longer human. I didn’t care though, this feeling of power was intoxicating and as long as I kept in control there was no issue with enjoying it.

Another day went by and now I am standing on the door to the fiftieth floor. This deep down most of the plan monsters have been replaced with fungi type monsters that spread poisonous spores. If that was all this place wouldn’t be so dangerous but what was truly troublesome was the acidic substance that the monsters used as blood. It could easily melt metal meaning melee attacks weren’t the best of options.
However, Naru and Pyrka are special. I have noticed that even when they get damaged as long as I provide them with mana they can repair themselves in a matter of seconds and that’s not all of it. As they kept getting damaged and repaired I noticed they were also becoming resistant to the corrosion. Truly, these two swords were akin to cheat weapons.
With a deep breath I pushed the massive stone door in front of me. As I did I was met with a dimly lit dome-shaped room. The place was rather large to call it a room with a full hundred meters in radius. In the middle a mountain of fungi glowed ominously. I could already feel my blood boiling from the excitement of the battle that was to come.
I took a step forward and then the stone door closed behind me. The mountain of fungi started moving, forming a lizard-like body with three heads attached to long necks. The first thing that came to mind was a hydra. However, unlike normal hydras this one was made out of fungi which made it look rather grotesk.
Without any worry in the world I dashed forward igniting Pyrka with my blood as fuel. As for Naru, the concentrated mana was already over her blade forming an extremely sharp mana blade. Down here, I have an almost inexhaustible source of mana meaning I am close to invincible.
The fungi hydra reacted instantly by spewing a mixture of poisonous spores and acid at me. Even if I could heal the damage cause by such an attack there was no need for me to take it so I dodged with ease. After that I was right below the head that had done the attack so I took the chance and decapitated it.
As expected from a monster made out of fungi and more over a hydra the head regrew and even multiplied making the monster a four headed hydra now. Not that I cared, even if it could make more heads it would end up dying sooner or later.
I kept with going by cutting and burning it over and over again. The pungent smell of burnt fungi and corroded flesh filled the air as we attacked each other. As of now the hydra was the proud owner of ten heads which made it look funny not to mention the extra weight was making it lose its balance.
The fight had already been going for long enough and I was starting to get annoyed so I decided to go all out. Pushing as much mana and miasma I could to flow inside my body as well as my two swords I made my next and final attack. At that moment I was reminded of an anime from my past life and could help shouting.
“ZA WARUDO!”
The world slowed to a crawl as I ran all over the place cutting and burning the giant pile of hydra shaped fungi. In my perception of time I had spent about two minutes doing this but for everything and everybody else a few seconds had gone by at most. This isn’t time control since I am not slowing down my surroundings but instead hyper accelerating myself. The end result is.
Boom
That I can move at an amazing speed by burdening my body to the point it is about to self-destruct or at least that is how it should be. Thanks to this environment and providing an almost unlimited source of mana for my soul ability I can heal all damage almost instantly. Not to mention that my body has mutated to become more efficient thanks to that same ability.
As of now I can hold that state for two minutes in my perception without any risk but I have also noticed that increasing that time has become harder and harder. Well it doesn’t really matter. Two minutes have been more than enough to finish off anything that has gotten in my way so far.
With the fungi hydra reduced to a pile of ash a passage opened showing the stairs to the next floor. With a bright smile I continued my dive, I still have two days left before I have to rush back up.

Paladin
When the first derelict alien spacecraft fell to Earth, humanity took what was found in it and propelled themselves to new heights. In their new Golden Age, humanity developed technology that they had only dreamed about. The following years saw hundreds more ships crash into the planet, spurring even greater technological leaps. An unassuming spacecraft, one of the dozens that fell yearly, descended on Siberia in 2021. The world took no particular notice of it. However, this one contained something beyond the miraculous technology that had made humans so prosperous. Three years later, in a top-secret underground facility in eastern Colorado, the automated construction of an army of Paladin Mobile Infantry Suits was underway. With this new, state-of-the-art weaponry, the military would turn the tide against the alien incursion that was consuming the planet. Humanity fell before that could happen. Sam was an engineer responsible for overseeing the facility. Now alone, he lives in utter boredom and near insanity, his only company the base’s pseudo AI and an army of empty Paladins. With the world gone to hell around him, and the things that caused it still living above, he decides that he is much better off staying exactly where he is. Unfortunately for him, that is no longer an option. This is the first novel I've written. The first fifteen or so chapters are going to be a little slower. I want there to be time to get to know the characters before they start blowing stuff up. Also, though the MC will be strong relative to the world, he won't be OP, and won't win every fight. Not every fight will be physical either. Currently, I'm aiming for something like 5 fairly short chapters a week, after the introduction part is done, but we'll see how that goes. Thanks for reading, and please let me know if I've made mistakes!
