《Ninth World Lia's Struggle》ch 5

As I finished gazing at the sunrise my stomach made a loud grumble, a slight chuckle escaped me as I realized I had been too caught on the moment. I took my things and left for the first floor of the inn. Apart from the reception, the first floor was mostly a restaurant, well nothing as fancy as that. Either way, it served its purpose which was serving cheap yet tasty food for the clients. I took a sit on one of the desks before looking at the menu which was written on a wooden plank in a nearby wall. After a while, a waitress came to take my order which was a simple lunch. The simple lunch consisted of a portion of a hundred grams of meat and a large portion of potatoes and veggies. By the way, I have never been good with veggies but I still ate them. The food arrived after a short wait along with my drink which was water. I could choose between water and ale, however, I had never drank alcohol in my life and I was not about to start. I mean I have tasted it before and almost puked so thank you but no. As for the taste of the food, it was plain. Just imagine eating what I mentioned before with only slat and no other condiment. I am glad I didn't set my expectations too high but either way, it wasn't bad, no rather it was quite tasty for only being condiment with salt.

After I left the inn I headed to the commercial district. First things first I need a new set of clothes or rather a few more. As I remembered sleeping naked I could feel my cheeks heat up.

"Yup never again, no way, just no"

As I kept telling myself such things I finally arrived. It was packed with people doing business, buying and selling while haggling. I soon made my way to a second-hand clothes store, and as I entered I was greeted by the shopkeeper. A young and slightly overweight woman gave me a big smile before welcoming me.

"Hello and welcome to my humble shop, what kind of clothes are you looking for today?"

"Hello I would like to buy a pair of casual clothes and another pair of work clothes"

She looked at me with a: I knew it face, before nodding while asking me to follow. She took some simple dresses and other clothes while presenting them to me. I didn't wear dresses often since for the most part I used my school uniform or stayed in my pyjamas when I was at home. I chose a simple white and short dress to use as a pyjama, a cyan long dress to use for special or formal occasions and some shorts with shirts for my casual attire. As for the work clothes what I had in mind was to get something with a rougher fabric so it wouldn't get damaged easily while I was doing quests, something like my previous live jeans would have been perfect. In the end, I bought two sets of clothes meant for miners, they were a little too big for me but it was nothing a belt couldn't fix. As I left the shop I realised I had no armour. Be it leather, chainmail or plate I had nothing to protect me from an attack. Well, I did just spend around a half a gold coin on cloths so my funds will start running low if I buy anything else. Clothes are expensive.

As I finished shopping I went back to the inn, changed into my work clothes, left the rest and went to the guild. After checking the quest for a while I decided on a gathering quest. It mainly consisted of gathering different herbs around the forest's outskirts, easy enough since I didn't have to fight any monsters. For the most part, things went smoothly, I would avoid monsters whenever I saw them and gather herbs. The best part about this quest is that it does not have a limit nor a minimum meaning that I could gather as much as I liked without worrying. The guild receptionist explained that these types of quests are permanent since there is always a demand for these herbs. So I can simply become a gatherer and live a peaceful life or so I thought. But the pay is low moreover it's not completely risk-free. Monsters still roam the place and unlike a subjugation quest in which you knew what you were getting yourself into, however, on a gathering quest, there was a high chance to get attacked while being busy gathering the materials. Whatever, as long as I can take a rest from time to time, it's okay. There is no way I am unlucky enough to meet with a strong monster, right?

As I kept gathering I felt something was amiss, looking around I had gone deeper than I should have into the forest. Moreover, it was quiet, too quiet. Then it happened I felt a sharp pain on my shoulder as a big mass pushed me down to the floor. I screamed in pain as my head raced to understand what was going on. Either way, I had to get this thing off of me. I hit its maw with my fist as hard as I could. It released me after the third blow with a whining sound. I took the opportunity to stand up take out my shortsword, or at least I tried. My right shoulder had been torn apart, which meant my right arm was completely out of service. The beast recovered while I tried my best to think of what to do. looking at it properly it's almost identical to a wolf except for its abnormally large canines and an extra eye on its forehead.

The pain was unbearable. That thing was merciless but then again, it's a monster. The left side of my stomach had been gouged out by its sharp claws and for the most part, the beast remained unharmed. To die again like this, so soon after being reincarnated is unacceptable. Moreover, its too painful, this f*cker will pay, I swear I will make it pay. If I am dying I will make sure to drag this b*stard to hell with me. I prepared myself for the next blow as it rushed towards me. However, this time I didn't dodge or even try to for that matter. Instead, I made sure to receive its attack head-on, and as it bit of my gut, I grabbed it with all I had and bit him back tearing of one of its ears before jamming my fingers on his left eye. As I became angrier as the damned thing whimpered.

It dares make sounds as if it's painful. I am the one in pain, you caused this pain. I will kill it a thousand times over for what it has done. As my anger boiled so did my blood I felt a surge of power from deep within myself but I didn't mind it since all I wanted was revenge. I lunged toward the beast before hitting its maw downwards with all my strength. I punched it non stop, blinded by my rage, my muscles ache and I could hear my bones crack, even so, I did not stop. By the time I regained myself the beast's skull was a paste of bone shards, brain matter and blood. My wounds aren't as bad as before somehow, and my hands that should be in a terrible state like the aforementioned skull look completely normal.

Then it hit me, a horrible pain that rain through my body like electricity. I felt my muscles tear and my bones break. I couldn't understand what was going on nor I wanted to. I just wanted the pain to stop. And with a somewhat loud thud, I felt my now unresponding body slam against the ground as the warm yet cold sensation of blood flowing and pooling around me reached my senses. I was dying but at least I managed to take the damned beast down with me.

To die again after a got a second chance, what a joke. Was I simply unlucky or did the world hate me that much, either way, it doesn't matter anymore. My consciousness was fading fast perhaps if I am lucky next time I will be able to live a simpler life just like my previous one. As if I would get a third chance, perhaps my only regret was never knowing love.

"So you come to visit once more, last time Gaia got in the way of our usual reunion"

A soft voice spoke as if we knew each other for long. It was the first time I heard such a beautiful voice yet my heart was filled with a sense of nostalgia as if I had been longing for it for too long.

"As always you are asleep, but that does not bother me as long as I can see you once more"

Asleep? so this is a dream, I tried to talk but nothing came out, I tried to move but my body did not answer.

"It seems it's time for you to go back. How sad, this time's visit was shorter than usual. Well, until next time, I will be waiting"

As I heard those words I felt a deep sadness within me. I would forget, I knew that well even though I didn't understand why. I felt my consciousness fade once more. I tried to keep myself conscious for as long as I could since I felt that I would lose something important once more. However, in the end, I forgot yet again.
