《World Jumper》Chapter 34

Jet woke up and couldn't move. So he just opened his eyes to look around and groaned inwardly. The room was completely white and full of medical equipment. Then panicked at where he was at, what happened to Rachael and Relo. He can't be back on Earth. He had to protect them. But his body just wouldn't move.
Someone screamed and ran out of the room. Jet calmed down, turning his head towards the door. "Wait." He croaked out so weak that he wasn't sure he had spoken.
After a few minutes, a man walked wearing an old-looking suit. "So you woke up, that's really something. Considering the condition you were in when brought here."
"Where." Jet tried to speak.
"New York City. I am Detective Davis, and you are Jetsford Gardner." Davis said, pulling out a photo of Jetsford from a year ago.
Jet wasn't paying attention. His mind was wandering. 'I can't be back on Earth. I have to protect them.' Then another thought occurred to him. 'Alex, you there?'
'Yes and no. I'm out wandering around the city." Alex said.
'This is no time for sightseeing. We have to get back and help.' Jet got cut off.
'Be realistic. You're in no shape to fight. You also have no clue how to get back. However, don't worry, Lord Crimson came back with us and is dead.' Alex tried to calm Jet.
'Then there's a chance they will make it back.' Jet was glad, even if he wouldn't see them again. Surely they would be alright now.
"Spacing out there, kid. Maybe I'll come back later." Davis started to walk away, but a hand grabbed his coat sleeve.
"Jet says to hang on. He wants to talk." Alex said while sitting on Jet's chest.
Davis wasn't sure what to make of whatever sat on Jet's chest. It also had talked, but after the last year, nothing surprised him. "So, what are you?"
"I'm Alex, a piece of a soul attached to Jet's." Alex tilted her head, looking up at Davis.
"Well, that's new." Davis grabbed a chair and sat down.
As Davis sat, Alex saw a gun in a holster and leaped to cover Jet. Lightning started sparking between her horns. Then Jet grabbed her head, pushing it down into the bed. Sure she could have easily broken out of the hold but didn't. 'Calm down. It's normal for cops to have guns.'
Alex calmed down and sat back down on Jet's chest. "Sorry about that. I overreacted."
"You're very protective of Mr. Gardner." Davis pulled a notebook out of his pocket.
"Jet."
"Excuse me?" Davis asked.
"Call him Jet. He doesn't like titles trust me." Alex leaned forward and whispered.
"I see. Well, I have to ask him a few questions and seeing how you can communicate with him." Davis got cut off.
"He wants to know how his aunt is doing," Alex said, and Jet was looking right into Davis's eyes. "And Amanda." She added.
"I hate this part," Davis mumbled and sat back on his chair, looking at the ceiling. "Your family don't know you are back." When he looked back down, he could see Jet's glare.

"Why?" Jet asked, wincing in pain.
Davis rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on. "Well, some of the people that come back are quite dangerous, and we have had to kill kids. So we don't publicly announce who has come back. Some of the families have been targeted and killed for what their kids did. But, not all who come back have been bad. So that is what I am here to find out." He looked at Jet and waited for an answer.
Jet thought it made sense if it was to protect the family. He would do anything for his family. The state of his body was the proof of that. There was just one problem.
"Can we talk later?" Alex asked.
"Sure, don't look like Jet will be up much longer. I'll tell the Doctor and Nurses you're safe to be around." Davis got up to go and saw that Jet's eyes were barely open.
Alex tried to talk with Jet, but he was already out cold. So she decided to go back out sightseeing. She didn't know when he would wake up and didn't want to wait.
Eventually, Jet woke up and noticed a nurse checking his vitals. "Hello." He smiled, his voice not sounding as weak.
The women turned to Jet and slightly backed off. "Uhm, hi." She said slowly.
Jet looked around, noticing an officer in the room. He lifted a hand and waved, then tried to sit up. The sounds of bones could be heard popping in the room. "Is Davis around? Want to have that conversation to see my family."
"What do you think you're doing." The nurse asked, trying to stop him from getting up.
"I'm going to the bathroom." Jet said in a deadpan voice.
"You're in no shape to be moving."
"I've been in worse shape." He said with a pained smile. There was also no way he would use a bedpan while he was awake. Halfway to the restroom, he noticed a safe. "What's with the safe?" He asked, pointing at the safe.
The officer looked at the safe and back at Jet. "It has your weapons in it."
Jet almost laughed but just walked to the restroom. The safe was utterly useless. However, if it made people feel safe, who was he to question them. 'Alex, what are you up to.'
'I'm with Davis. He just got a call telling him you woke up. Of course, he already knew since I told him.' Alex explained.
After he was done using the toilet and tearing up. How he had missed plumbing. Looking in the mirror, he cringed. His skin looked odd, with blue cracks. He took his gown off and noticed they mostly went down his neck and right arm. 'What the fuck did I do to my body this time?' Putting back on the gown, he sighed and went back out to the other room. There was a new person in the room, a Doctor.
"Hello, Mr. Gardner, I'm Dr. Marcy." She put out her hand to shake Jet's.
Jet clasped hands and shook. "My names Jet, Marcy."
"And I'm Dr. Marcy." She smiled and let go of Jet's hand.
"Ok, Marcy." Jet walked around Marcy and sat on the chair. "I'm hungry."

Marcy sighed and went to the door. "Bring some food for Mr. Gardner."
Jet, in the meantime, found a Rubix cube the officer had been trying to figure out and finished it right in front of him. The officer took it back and stared at Jet.
Marcy walked back to Jet, looking at a clipboard. "You, sir."
"Just Jet." He interrupted the doctor.
"Fine, Jet, you are lucky to be alive," Marcy said through clenched teeth.
"Yes, I'm so lucky. You've seen the state of my body." Jet knew he was being an ass. But he really didn't like doctors. It may have to do with the white.
"Hey, there's no need to be a jerk." The officer said.
"I know, just don't like people saying I'm lucky." He was certain luck was against him. Then again, he could go to other worlds. "I'm sorry." He looked at Marcy.
"Apology accepted. Now you were in bad shape when you were brought in. You had five broken ribs and six fractured ribs. Your jaw had to bolted back together, and you're missing five teeth. As for the blue cracks in your skin, we got no clue." Marcy explained, then put some ex-rays of his skeleton on a lighted board. "Another oddity, your bones are connected by something."
Jet got up to look at his skeleton. He leaned in to look at the round objects connecting his bones. What an oddity indeed, he thought. Then noticed the metal plates and bolts in his jaw and reached up to feel the spot. Now he wondered if he would set off metal detectors.
"Now, your blood was pretty much water when you were brought to the hospital," Marcy said, looking at Jet.
"You know what. I like you, Marcy. You're the first doctor not to use large words around me." Jet got tired of all the doctors he had met before.
"I mostly work with children. Big words tend to scare them." Marcy smiled at Jet. "So why was your blood mostly water?"
"Oh, that. I lost a lot of blood while fighting. Stabbed with a great sword." Jet mumbled the last sentence. Worrying that if they found out what he had been doing. Though considering his condition, it was apparent. "Well, let's just say I used magic to mix water with my blood so I could move. It was actually quite painful."
"How?" Marcy had a puzzled look on her face.
Jet reached up and almost made a fireball, then thought better. So he created a little ball of water, then started making shapes with the water. "I can manipulate water using magic."
"You forced water into your bloodstream?" Marcy asked.
"Yes, and it really hurt." Jet, however, didn't regret what he had done.
"Ok, that was a whole world of stupid. Try not to do it again." Marcy said as someone came into the room with food.
When they put the food on the table, Jet walked over and looked at the food. "What is this?" Jet asked as he poked at the. Well, he wasn't sure what the food was.
"It's jell-o and a soup with high protein," Marcy said with a smile.
'Alex, I don't care what you have to do. Beg, plead, anything have Davis get me some real food.' Jet sent a mental image of the food to Alex. He then took a bite of the soup, and it was gross. How were people able to eat hospital food.
"I'll let you eat. I got other patients to look at. I will be by tomorrow for some check-ups." Marcy said and walked out of the room.
Jet looked at the officer in the room. "I'm Jet. What's your name?"
He smiled, "I'm Gerald."
Jet grabbed the bowl of jell-o. "Want some jell-o, Gerald?" To Jet's surprise, Gerald took the jell-o. After watching a show on how jell-o was made, Jet never ate it again.
After what felt like forever, Davis walked in with a pizza. Of course, Jet was looking at the miniature version of Alex on Davis's shoulder. Jet was admittedly jealous. Then Alex shook her head and hopped over to Jet's shoulder.
"Jet, go lay down. You look tired." Davis handed a slice of pizza to Gerald, then put it down on the table by the bed.
"Thank you for the real food." Jet said, getting back on the bed. "So what do we need to do so that I can meet back up with my family." He took a bite of the pizza he grabbed.
"Well, let's start from when you popped out of this world." Davis started.
"Popped? Don't you mean jumped since I'm a World Jumper?" He was sure that is what Graham said.
"World Jumper, that's not bad. Better than what we been calling you guys." Davis wrote on his notepad.
While Jet ate his pizza, he started his story of what happened to him. He had to stop and ask if they could indict him for murder. Of course, that was after he told them about the guys he killed. Jet decided he needed to stop and think before talking.
"No wonder you got mad when you were called lucky," Gerald said after listening to the story.
"That may have just ended up on the top of the list of stories I've heard." Davis had heard a lot of stories now. That had topped them all.
"I got a question. Why don't therapists do these talks?" Jet was quite curious and glad because the story he had just told would be looked at differently by them.
"They're too scared to talk to you guys. Mostly for a good reason after being attacked and killed. So now it is up to us." Davis explained.
"Got it. So what now?" Jet asked.
Davis pulled an object out of his pocket. "This is a tracking device, goes around your wrist. Before you ask, yes, you have to wear this. So we can keep track of you."
Jet took the round bracelet. "And if I don't."
Davis shrugged. "I'm just supposed to say you have to wear the tracker. But you don't. It's so we can check where you were at during a crime. A lot of hands point at you, World Jumpers."
Jet shrugged put the tracker on. "So when can I see my family?"
