《World Jumper》Chapter 28

Once Relo and Alex got back from their impromptu scouting. Relo had almost been as excited as Rachael about the bath. Alex took a dip immediately then headed back out to keep an eye on the area.
"So, Relo, why are we staying so close to the Crimson Swords camp?" Jet asked, looking at Relo, who was still eyeing the tub?
"Let's talk after we get in the tub." Relo rubbed her hands together. Then somehow stripped Jet and threw him in the cold water.
Jet stood up, glaring at Relo. "You know I can warm up the water without being inside the freezing water." He almost growled out.
However, Relo hadn't been listening, helping Rachael get undressed. So Jet heated the water and sat down. He closed his eyes and tried to relax. Then suddenly, Relo kicked him.
"Water's getting cold." Rachael woke Jet up.
Jet shook his head, realizing he had fallen asleep. He quickly warmed the water back up, then wondered how long he had been out. "How long?"
"Almost an hour." Rachael clarified for Jet.
"Why did you let me sleep so long," Jet asked, drowsy.
He finally noticed Relo had also fallen asleep next to Rachael. "I was going to let you sleep longer, but the water is getting cold."
"Thanks, Rachael. I didn't know I was so tired." Jet did appreciate the sleep. He hadn't slept since they had left the cave. But he couldn't help smiling. Relo was starting to drool on Rachael.
'Hey Alex, what did Relo want to tell me.' Jet made sure to send an image of Relo drooling on Rachael.
Alex snickered at the image. 'She is thinking about sneaking in tonight and killing some of them in their sleep.'
"That's not too bad of an idea." Jet winced when he realized he spoke aloud, waking Relo.
Relo looked at Jet then to Rachael, who still had drool on her shoulder. "Uh, sorry." Relo's face went red with embarrassment.
Rachael just smiled at Relo and washed the drool off her shoulder. "So Jet, what are you going on about?" Rachael asked.
"Sorry was talking to Alex about why Relo wanted to stay so close to the Crimson Swords campsite." Jet explained. He needed to stop talking aloud when talking to Alex.
"Oh that, I plan to have Alex do some flying reconnaissance. Then sneak in and lower their numbers." Relo said offhandedly.
"That's a stupid plan." Jet shot back.
Relo sighed at Jet. "Let me guess. You want to go instead."
"Yes." Jet said matter of factly.
"Do tell why it would be better if you went, Sir Knight." Relo mocked Jet.
"Simple, Alex and I can share thoughts. So simply put, she can be my eyes while I am sneaking around." Jet put Relo in place. He didn't want to, but this would be a better plan.
"Sorry, Relo, but Jet is right. With his shared thoughts with Alex, he is the better choice." Rachael patted her on the shoulder.

"I got far more experience. Also, I am not injured." Relo fought back at them.
Jet saw the worry in Rachael's eyes and knew the true reason she agreed with him. She didn't want to lose another sister, and Relo didn't want to lose Jet. He got out of the tub and got dressed. Then he started to make them dinner.
He pulled out the Meat Cleaver. He had found out last week the cleaver could change into different knives. After some tests on the other weapons, neither could change from what he could tell. They ate their food in silence, then headed to bed for the day.
Relo had got up before nightfall to sneak off to the Crimson Swords camp. She slowly worked her way out of bed, making no noise. Then she grabbed her daggers and started to reach for Fate just in case.
"Have you worked out how to get out?" Jet asked while leaning on the wall to the sealed entrance.
"I haven't." Relo slumped in place, completely forgetting Jet had sealed them in their temporary home.
Jet walked up to Relo, putting a hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry." He sent a small electrical charge through her, knocking Relo out. Jet grabbed her up and brought her to bed. Rachael had woken up and seen what he had done.
"She is going to be mad." Rachael looked Jet in his eyes.
"I know." He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small stick. Then added his magic to the stick. Rick had taught him this little trick. He handed the stick to Rachael. Jet then turned around, grabbed the daggers, but left all the other weapons. As he started for the sealed entrance, Rachael cut him off.
Rachael leaned in and hugged Jet. "Please come back safe."
Jet liked this version of Rachael better. It was strange that her personality took a one-eighty. But Relo said this was her true self, not the face she puts on for others. Jet embraced her back. "Don't worry. I'm not going just to get revenge. My plan differs a little from Relos. I plan to look for why they want you dead."
Rachael walked away, and Jet went forward, opening the entrance. When he got outside, Alex jumped down onto his shoulder. They both were silent until Jet came upon the campsite.
'Right, I'll fly around the area and be your eyes. Just remember I can't see if someone comes out of a tent.' Alex took off into the night sky.
Jet lied to Rachael. He did want his revenge for Ileana. However, he needed to put that emotion away. 'I need to find the object or person tracking Rachael.' Jet thought to himself. However, he still got a reply.
'That would be the most help right now.' Alex thought back at him. She then noticed Jet walking right into the camp. 'Seriously, that's your big plan. Just walk in?'
'Yes, I'm acting like I belong here.' Jet casually walked into a tent and noticed a man sleeping. Without a sound, he walked up beside the bed. Then he unsheathed a dagger, put it over the man's eye, and stabbed down. One of his hands covered the man's mouth, but it hadn't been necessary. The man had died instantly.

Jet looked around and started rummaging through the man's stuff. He grabbed one of their cloaks and put it on. Then found a Crimson Swords insignia band and put it on. Just in case, he put on the sword leaning on the bed around his waist. 'How're things looking out there?'
'If you leave and go right. You got about three minutes.' Alex replied.
Without a second thought, he walked out of the tent and went right. Jet walked as if he owned the camp, not even a slight hesitation in his steps. The tent opening was to his left this time. Jet calmly opened the tent and looked inside. Another person sleeps soundly on a bed. He walked up beside the man and frowned.
'Anyone close by?' Jet asks Alex.
'They're just about to walk by the tent you entered.' Alex confirmed.
He could hear them walking by the tent. As soon as the footsteps got further out, Jet readied the dagger. Since the guy was sleeping sideways, Jet stabbed him through the throat and held him down. Then cut his throat from the inside out. However, pain shot through his left arm, letting the man go, but Jet quickly let the dagger drop on the bed and used his right hand. 'Damn arm.' He cursed.
'Jet, I felt the sharp pain in your shoulder. Everything alright?' Jet could feel Alex's worry.
'Don't worry, just the arrowhead shifting again. How's it look out there?' Jet changed the subject holding entirely still.
'All good so far. I'll keep a close eye on the tents around you.' Alex replied.
Jet took a quick look around and found a bag of holding. He opened the bag, finding gold and jewelry with bloodstains on them. As he was about to toss the bag away, a thought occurred. They might need some gold later. He shook the bag noticing no clinking. So he tied the bag to his waist belt. 'Alright, Alex, ready to move again.'
'Make sure to go left this time.' Alex reminded Jet.
Jet inwardly sighed. 'Thanks for reminding me.' He walked out of the tent and headed left. As he walked into the next tent, a shiver went down his spine. There were pictures of ripped apart bodies and a preserved body hanging from hooks. 'What the fuck is wrong with these people.' Jet screamed in his head.
'That is disgusting.' Alex had almost fallen out of the sky from the image.
Taking a look around, Jet found a row of daggers, knives, and other he assumed torture tools. Jet walked up beside the bed and readied his dagger. Then looked over to the table and switched the daggers. He stabbed down, killing the man instantly. Taking the knife out of the man's brain, Jet watched as the blood-soaked the man's bed.
'They're coming back around, be quiet for a little while.' Alex reported.
He put Relo's daggers in the bag of holding, deciding to use the nicer ones on the table. Jet then opened a chest that was hidden under the bed. That had been a mistake. There were dozens, no hundreds of fingers inside the chest. 'Why did I even bother looking.' Jet thought as he closed the chest.
'Hey Jet, take a look at this.' Alex sent over an image of the camp.
Jet took a look at the image of the camp. 'Yes, those bigger tents, let's work our way to them.' The bigger tents may have what he was looking for. He hadn't lied to Rachael. He did want to find what was tracking her. However, he had no problem taking out some of these people along the way.
The following two tents, Jet had entered there no one in them. So he made sure not to touch anything. All that Jet needed was for someone to come back and find stuff missing. He got to the next tent and found someone sleeping. After taking care of the man, Jet took his gold for future purposes, of course.
Without thinking or waiting for Alex, Jet walked out of the tent. 'Crap.' Jet berated himself. The guards were walking right towards him.
'Jet run.' Alex said quickly.
Jet, however, started walking casually towards the men. After he was past the tent, he turned and headed towards the forest. He didn't try to show any fear, acting as if he belonged there. The guards stopped and watched him. They stood there just long enough to watch Jet start taking a piss on a tree. Then they went back to walking their rounds.
'Their leaving. I can't believe that worked.' Alex said in wonder.
'Act like you belong, and most will just ignore you.' Jet couldn't believe that had actually worked. His hands were trembling from all the excitement.
'You have problems if that was exciting.' Alex said flatly.
'Well, maybe not quite excitement. I definitely have an adrenaline rush right now.' Jet sighed with relief.
'Okay, their they're far enough away. Head to the next tent.' Alex said.
Jet walked back into the row of tents and walked into the next tent. Once in, he notices this tent was empty. So again, he made sure not to touch anything. He figured that he had to be getting closer to the bigger tents by now.
'Yeah, we're just a few away from them now.' Alex confirmed.
'Well, let's keep going then. Only a matter of time before we get caught.' The more dead bodies he left behind. The stronger the chance they would be found. However, he needed to find the way the Crimson Swords were tracking Rachael. If Jet could disrupt or steal whatever they were doing to track them, the better. But his gut was screaming it wouldn't be that simple.

Draugr Cell //Layer 01-- Investiture:
With the end of the only war to ever reach mainland Australia I found myself living out of a small room in an old military compound that had been handed over to the jurisdiction of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The end of the war, unfortunately, didn't mean the end of hostilities. The terrorism trend that had started back in the early 2000's with the attack on the world trade center over in America, had spread to just about every country on the face of the planet. Over time the constant threat from various groups meant the civilian police force was quickly undermanned, under equipped, and overwhelmed. They were simply unable to respond to the daily threats in any reasonable time frame, and in many situations lacked the both the skills and equipment required to deal with the threats to put them down in a 'safe' and expedient manner. Veterans of the war that were being reintegrated into society however, were just about everywhere, all the time. We have the training and the skills required to deal with just about any threat you care to mention, all we needed was access to the equipment to do so. In a world first, under the new Veterans program, the Australian government had taken the rather controversial step of allowing specifically selected veterans to go armed in public. Sure, with Australian weapons laws being very, very strict there were a number of hurdles to get over first, but that's where the selection part comes in. Tangentially that's actually how I met Brianna, my current partner. We work as ringers in Victory City, I thought being thrown into imptomtu combat operations and risking my life on a daily basis for barely livable wages was excitement enough. Then I met her... it... I don't know. An AI unlike anything else out there has wedged itself into my life and decided it needs to... look after me. What could possibly go wrong? **** This is the first book I have released, and my first entry into a cyberpunk universe. There is minimal drug use, a fair amount of sex, a bit of gory violence, and a sultry AI that has decided the main character needs a harem.
