《World Jumper》Chapter 22

Jet had tried the other three elements with the same results. He cocked his head in bewilderment, then took out a notebook from another pocket. Writing down what he had just found out. Jet had started taking notes on magic from this world a few months back.

"Boy, what are you doing?" Rick leaned on the railing, watching Jet.

Jet finished what he had been writing then closed the notebook. "Writing, what's it look like." Jet said with a smile.

"You and your secrets." Rick sighed.

"I only keep one secret, and that's my parent's death. One other thing, though." Jet lied, he couldn't remember what happened to his parents. "Three months is all the time I got left."

"So the pain in your head wasn't just a headache?" Rick asked.

"Nope." Jet said, putting the books back into his pockets. He grabbed the glass of wine and turned around, leaning on the rail looking back into the castle. "My next adventure is around the corner."

"We will never see you again once you leave?"

"There was always a chance I would jump again." He looked at Ileana in the room, knowing once he told her, her heart would break.

"You would jump?" Rick asked.

"It's something Graham said before I blacked out. He called me a World Jumper. So I figure I'm jumping from one world to another." Jet took a sip of his wine and decided he wouldn't ever get used to the taste.

"Speaking of Graham, after he got his reward, he vanished. There are no reports of him leaving the city." Rick said, taking a drink of his own wine.

"Graham doesn't use the same kind of magic. He could easily escape the walls without detection." Jet could remember seeing Graham through his magic sense. He had been absorbing the magic from the air.

"Then what does Graham use? If not magic." Rick asked.

"I don't know, but he absorbs ambient magic from the air." Jet hadn't had time to think of Graham.

"That magic sense of yours would be nice to have." Garent walked out onto the balcony and leaned on the railing on the other side of Jet.

"I said it's easy. Just run magic through your eyes." Jet said.

"Like Graham, I think your magic works differently, too," Rick said.

"Not as different as you think." Jet took his notebook back out. "Your Majesty, could you help me with a test?"

Garent raised an eyebrow at Jet. "What kind of test?"

"Simple, cast a fireball and hold it." Jet said, smiling.

Garent obliged and created a fireball. Jet watched with interest as he cast the fireball. The flow of magic in Garent's body moved much faster than his own.

"Great, do another while holding your breath," Jet asked.

Garent lifted his other hand and created another fireball and matched its strength. Both were sitting in place above his hands. Garent watched as Jet scribbled in his notebook then put it away. "Going to give us a clue what you're up to?" Garent asked curiously.

"This notebook," Jet waved the notebook around. "Is going to a parting gift from me." Then he sighed. "But, I still have a lot to figure out. It would be easier if I had someone to help test my theory."

"I could help you." Rick paused before adding. "I know I shouldn't use magic. But, it wouldn't hurt much to do a little at a time." Rick said, wanting to help out.

"I need someone just starting out with magic. Not a kid, but someone that knows the basics." Jet stood there pondering.

"Then use one of my younger guards. Take them in as a disciple." Garent offered.

"Would that be odd for a disciple to have a disciple?" Jet was technically Rick's disciple. Who would want to be a disciple under him when he was one too.

Rick started to chuckle, and Jet looked over at him. "You're a Knight now, no longer my disciple," Rick said, grinning.

Jet eyes were stuck on Rick. Something about him had changed while he was gone. Rick looked younger and more lively now. He looked at Rick with his magic sense. Something was off about his magic. But, Jet couldn't figure out why Rick's magic had changed so much.

"Forget it, Rick. He is lost in thought. Relo says he does this a lot." Garent stopped Rick from asking Jet if he was ok.

"Relo said what about me?" Jet asked and decided he would ask Relo what she had been telling people.

Garent broke out laughing at Jet's expression. "The servants tell me everything that goes on in my castle. I know Relo told you that they are Royal Guards."

"Yeah, she told me just before the tournament, after I shared my secret." Jet admitted, looking at Relo as she walked around serving drinks to the guests.

"She is so much more alive since you showed up." Garent was also watching her.

"I thought she was always this way." Jet tried to remember her from their first meeting.

"No, before Relo met you, I had been talking with Dory about removing her as a servant. We were trying to figure out what to do with her. Then you come along, and she changed." Garent said, smiling looking at Relo. He always tried to keep his servants happy.

"Oh great, here comes Grandma." Jet said, sighing.

Garent and Rick looked at Jet with puzzled expressions. They looked towards the room and saw her headed their way. She went and leaned on the railing blocking her from the view of the people inside.

"Hope you don't mind if I join you, your Majesty. I need some air, getting too old to keep up with these younger people." Grandma said, and her body took a more relaxed posture.

"Not at all. But, I doubt you're having problems keeping up with the guests." Garent smiled at her.

She changed the subject. "What are you three plotting out here," Grandma asked with a mischievous smile.

"No plotting, just talking about Jet and his brain stalling," Rick said with a grin.

"Yeah, Relo says he tends to do that sometimes," Grandma stated.

"Jet will also be leaving us soon, around three months," Garent added.

"Well, that's a shame, won't be the same without him around," Grandma said, frowning.

"How much does she know?" Jet asked, puzzled.

"Like his Majesty, I know everything that goes on within these walls." She spoke, grinning.

Jet looked the old women up and down. He had never expected Grandma to know his secret. She stood relaxed and not in her usual stiff posture. Jet grinned at her, and she smiled back. 'Maybe Grandma isn't as bad as I thought.'

"Something has been bothering me." Jet said.

"What's been bothering you?" Grandma asked.

"The servants hold a lot of power. What I mean is, I understand why you could yell at me. I'm just a common-born. However, I've seen Dory yell at Ileana." He had to explain what a servant was from his world.

Garent answered him. "Well, what you described is accurate for this world also. However, my servants are nobility of a sort. They are well-trained killers and are elite guards." Garent looked towards Jet. "The five great houses and nobles know this and are sworn to secrecy." Garent then looked over to Grandma. "They also educate, and sometimes disciplining is needed to get subjects through thick-headed kids."

Jet gave Grandma another look and smiled. 'So she is just doing her job.' A lot of the anger towards her falling away. Grandma also grinned at him with a nod.

"Well, it looks like you two made up." Rick interrupted Jet's thoughts.

"It's getting late, and Jet has a trip to plan for." Garent stretched his muscles after standing so long.

"What trip?" Jet asked.

"You would be up to date on events if you hadn't slept so long," Rick stated.

"I am assigning you with a task as one of my knights. You will be escorting my daughters to Garth, the kingdom north of here." Garent explained.

Garent and Rick both filled Jet in on the trip details. The princesses were to see if one of them were compatible with the son of the King of Garth. Jet had a problem with the situation but, he kept it to himself. This was how things worked in this world. What right did he have to challenge their ways? Not only that, the Kingdom of Hope needed the treaty.

Jet woke up early the next day. Getting up, he did some quick stretches. He got his clothes ready to put on then looked in the mirror. Reaching a hand up, he rubbed his arrow scar, then took a look at his right hand. Scars lined his hand where the washbowl had been cut away and burn scars going slightly down his wrist, where his magic had backfired while fighting Graham.

"Well, I guess healing is faster here. But I still get scars" Jet frowned to himself, then looked for the bite marks that he got when he first got to this world. Then found them after closer inspection, noticing scarring around the area he was mauled. Jet then shrugged the scars off and got dressed.

He started to head out when he remembered, he had a sword now. When he grabbed it, he wondered if he would be allowed to wear World Breaker around the castle. Jet turned around when he heard someone open his door.

"You in a hurry to go somewhere?" Relo asked him.

"Good morning Relo. Is it ok if I wear my sword in the castle?" Jet was trying to figure out how to attach the sheath to his back.

Relo walked over to help Jet get World Breaker sheath attached. "You're a knight, so yes, you can wear the sword around the castle. Also, where are you headed?" Relo asked curiously.

"I have someone to force into a disciple role for me, and he is supposed to be at the outside wall this morning." Jet checked the sheath to make sure it didn't fall off.

Relo looked at Jet, puzzled. "You're not allowed to force someone to be a disciple."

Jet headed to the door to leave. "Going to have too for this guy. Oh, and I will buy breakfast in the market. See you later, Relo." He shouted back to the room as he left.

He made his way towards the outer wall of Hope. As Jet walked, people would greet him and congratulate him on his title. As it turned out, he didn't need breakfast, considering the free food that people were handing him. Every time Jet tried to pay. They would refuse. So he just bought other stuff from each one of them. Mostly useless trinkets and oddities, but Jet felt better afterward. After reaching the outer wall, he waved to the guards.

"Sir Jetsford, how can we help you?" One of the guards asked.

"Tolliden, please just call me Jet." He smiled but inwardly frowned. 'After I finally get everyone to call me Jet. I had to go and get a title.'

"Ok, Sir Jet." A slight smile forming on Tolliden's face.

Jet slapped his hand on his forehead and asked, "where is Jace?"

"Oh Jace, what has he done," Tolliden asked, hoping for some gossip.

The other guard hit Tolliden. "Jace is in the guard shack. He will be on duty in about fifteen minutes."

"Thank you, Gadian." Jet headed off to the guard shack. As Jet walked, he could hear the two of them arguing. He got the door of the shack and went in to look for Jace.

"Sir Jetsford, how can I help you today?" Asked the guard captain.

"I am here to see Jace." Jet told the guard captain. At the same time, he was pulling out a scroll the King had given him.

The captain took the scroll and read it, and asked. "Are you sure about this? I mean, I'm not questioning you about having a disciple. It's just Jace is poor with magic at best of times and their better candidates to choose from."

Jet smiled at the Captain. "Well, that's perfect then. It won't be a detriment if you lose him as a guard for a few months.

The captain told someone to go and fetch Jace. When Jace saw Jet, his face went a little pale after what he had said yesterday. "Jace, good to see you. Congratulations, I will be taking you on as a disciple." Jet gave him a few seconds, but Jace had been struck dumb. "Good, no arguments, so I will see you in front of the castle tomorrow. Be packed and ready to go." Jet patted Jace on the shoulder and smiled at him. Then walked out the door before Jace even got a word out.
