Book 1: Chapter 17
Baccaus was under no pressure from the assault of the various guild leaders.
It was not that the guild leaders were weak, but rather it was that Baccaus was just too strong.
Baccaus was a rank 7 level 10 mage on the verge of becoming a rank 8 mage. The guild leaders were all rank 6 with the exception of the guild leader of Mystic Veil who was a ranked 7 level 5 mage. Even with the ranking gap between Baccaus and the guild leaders, the disparity shouldn’t have been as bad as it was; the fight was an 8 on 1, after all.
The main reason for Baccaus’ strength came from the two saint equipments in his possession. One effect of the jade stone he had taken out earlier was to allow a mage to cast spells instantaneously. Every spell, even high ranked ones could be casted in the blink of an eye, provided the mage had enough elemental energy.
Another effect of the jade stone was to allow its user to constantly recover their elemental energy without doing anything at all. Just breathing would be enough. The amount recovered was not too great but its accumulation over time would definitely have a huge impact.
And the jade stone had another effect! This effect was even more shocking. A spell could be imbued in the jade stone and that spell could be used indefinitely until it was replaced by another spell or was discarded. The only downsides to this effect was that the imbued spell could only be used three times a day and that it must be imbued by a mage who knows how to cast the spell.
The spell Baccaus had imbued within the jade stone was the space spell: Teleport!
It’s unknown how Baccaus managed to imbue a saint spell nor is it known whom was the one to imbue it but this spell was a large part of why Baccaus had never been caught before.
The three effects of the jade stone was a testament to the strength of a saint equipment. The other saint equipment Baccaus had had never been used by him. Rather than not wanting to use it, it was that he couldn’t use it. The second saint equipment didn’t respond to anything Baccaus did at all so he could only carry it around. But even with just the help of one saint equipment, Baccaus was nearly untouchable amongst all living things in Nakrul…

The use of instantly casting a spell was apparent in Baccaus’ fight with the guild leaders. He could instantly cast Shadow Waltz and disappear into the shadows. Baccaus would also cast Wind Steps to buff himself to move faster. With these two low consumption spells along with the recovery effect of the jade stone Baccaus could maneuver about with ease.
While the guild leaders expended massive amounts of elemental energy, Baccaus took it easy.
The guild leaders refused to give up even after their attacks constantly missed their target; they were convinced that Baccaus would not be able to escape so long as Water Prison and Earth Wall was active.
The stubborn guild leaders constantly attacked Baccaus. Whenever he would show up to jeer or poke at them they would respond with attacks.
The ‘fight’, if it can be called that, dragged on for hours until the attacks all stopped and the guild leaders gasped for breath trying to replenish their elemental energy.
At this point, Baccaus noticed something that caused him to crease his brows. He had sense a very well hidden presence heading straight towards Farburn. The only reason Baccaus hadn’t detected this presence before was that this person was stronger than him! And by more than a few levels. This person was most likely a rank 8 level 5 or higher mage!
Although Baccaus was startled by the appearance of a rank 8 mage he wasn’t too worried for his own safety, because he had escaped from rank 8 mages before. Heck, he’d even out maneuvered a rank 8 level 7 mage! What really worried Baccaus was why the person was cutting through Fayburn instead of heading straight towards him.
There is a written rule that condemns any mage who harms innocent civilians. That’s why mages usually fought in desolate places to avoid harming normal people. Of course, some mages could care less about this rule and even take pleasure in killing innocents. These mages are all posted on the mage association’s wanted list and are the public enemy of the human race.
As Baccaus thought that such a high ranking mage couldn’t possibly be crazy enough to attack a small town for no reason, the person stopped on the edge of Fayburn, hovering in the air.

When Baccaus noticed this, his face paled. “Is this person after Cyil? No, it can’t be. No one should be able to sense his weak elemental fluctuations and with the help of the grade 7 shadow stalker cloak, even this person shouldn’t be able to find Cyil.” Baccaus couldn’t help but think he’d miss something and cursed himself for being too carefree these past few days he’d spent with Cyil.
Teleport!
Baccaus instantly used his first teleport of the day to send himself out of the Water Prison and Earth Wall. Had the space been locked down with Space Prison or some spell of that caliber then Teleport would not have worked. In any case, a measly Water Prison and Earth Wall could not hold Baccaus back as he teleported all the way to...just merely a foot outside of the Water Prison and Earth Wall.
Baccaus was intending on directly teleporting to Fayburn which was around 20 miles away, but he hadn’t even gone 100 yards! Confused by the outcome, Baccaus heard laughter coming from the collapsing Water Prison and Earth Wall.
A jade masked figure walked out from the previous encirclement and beckoned towards Baccaus. “Your teleport spell won’t work as long as this Space Prison is still up. I paid a heavy price to acquire this one-use scroll with Space Prison! But it was all worth it just to see that look on your face! Wait until the Lightning Emperor gets here, then you’ll surely die!” The jade masked figure said this in all one breath and laughed like a maniac afterwards.
Baccaus clenched his only fist and sent it smashing towards the laughing jade masked figure.
Twisting Shadow Gale Spear!
Caught unprepared, a nearly invisible penetrative force coalesced and slammed into the jade masked figure, blasting them through one wall from the remains of the Earth Wall and through the other one as well, where the figure finally slammed onto the invisible boundary of the Space Prison.
Ripples emerged on the Space Prison from the point where the figure had collided with it.
The figure slowly slid down to the ground and their pieces of defensive magical equipments began to break one after the other as they had reached their limits; the jade mask then broke to reveal a beautifully youthful female face behind.
Baccaus followed up his attack by appearing right in front of the fallen woman, who was relatively unharmed thanks to her defensive medical equipments, and grabbed her by the throat.
Baccaus lifted the unmoving body in the air; seeing that the woman was unconscious, Baccaus squeezed her throat until the pain woke her.
“Speak! Why is the Lightning Emperor stopping in an ordinary town and not coming straight for me?!” Baccaus glared at the woman who struggled to smile.
“Just kill me.” She replied meekly, actually wanting to die by Baccaus’ hand.
Baccaus stared at the familiar face who was unafraid of death and his anger reduced. He calmed his mind and took a deep breath.
“Must not kill. Must not kill again. I promised Kara.” Baccaus reminded himself then released the woman who slumped down to the ground.
Baccaus looked around at the other guild leaders who stood there in shock, glued to their spots, clearly not wanting to get involved.
“We don’t know anything. This was all Black Hand’s plan.”
“Right, we didn’t know the Lightning Emperor was coming, too.”
“We’d never sanction the attack on an ordinary town.”
One after the other, the guild leaders began to chime in and proclaim their innocence.
Baccaus could careless about their reasonings and seeing as they had nothing useful to provide he quickly began to attack the Space Prison.
But, just as Baccaus was going to attack he sensed a strong energy fluctuation coming in the direction of Fayburn.
“No!” Baccaus roared, his eyes alight with rage.
