I felt a heavy arm draped around my waist and I jolted up alarmed. There was Adrian, next to me—laying really, really close. His steady breathing fanned my face and I groaned at my pounding headache. What happened last night? All I remember is coming back from the restaurant a little bit tipsy, drinking more, dancing with Adrian and the events after that were blurry. But one that stood out, and that I somewhat remember...

"Jane, I-I like you."

It was just a dream right? I was to drunk and I must have heard him wrong, right? All the thinking made my headache worsen. I let out a tired sigh as I run my hand over my temples. I decided to let Adrian rest as I get up and make my way to my bedroom. I grab the black skirt, and light brown top with small black decorations scattered over it. I adjust the water to my liking before turning the tap on. I strip out of my clothes and enter the bathtub. The lukewarm water cascades over my body relaxing ever tense muscle.

When I was six years old I broke my leg

I was running from my brother and his friends

And tasted the sweet perfume of the mountain grass I rolled down

I was younger then, take me back to when I

Found my heart and broke it here

Made friends and lost them through the years

And I've not seen the roaring fields in so long, I know I've grown

But I can't wait to go home

I'm on my way

Driving at ninety down those country lanes

I scrub my hair and body as I try remembering what happened yesterday.

Singing to "Tiny Dancer"

And I miss the way you make me feel, and it's real

We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill

Fifteen years old and smoking hand-rolled cigarettes

Running from the law through the backfields and getting drunk with my friends

Had my first kiss on a Friday night, I don't reckon that I did it right

But I was younger then, take me back to when

We found weekend jobs, when we got paid

We'd buy cheap spirits and drink them straight

Me and my friends have not thrown up in so long, oh how we've grown

But I can't wait to go home

I'm on my way

Driving at ninety down those country lanes

Singing to "Tiny Dancer"

And I miss the way you make me feel, and it's real

We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill

Over the castle on the hill

Over the castle on the hill

One friend left to sell clothes

One works down by the coast

One had two kids but lives alone

One's brother overdosed

One's already on his second wife

One's just barely getting by

But these people raised me and I can't wait to go home

And I'm on my way, I still remember

This old country lanes

When we did not know the answers

And I miss the way you make me feel, it's real

We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill

Over the castle on the hill

Over the castle on the hill

I turn the tap water off before throwing a towel around my body and another around my wet locks. I walk towards the sink and quickly brush my teeth before heading towards my bedroom. There I get changed and quickly do my make up and hair. I decided to keep it simple and simply braid my brown locks into a side braid with a few strands sticking out. I smile approvingly at myself in the mirror before throwing on my black pumps and taking my already packed suitcase downstairs. I place it near the entrance before quietly making my way into the kitchen and starting on our breakfast. I take the carton of eggs and place them on the counter too near the stove, as I take out a few pieces of bacon. I look in the fridge for the rest of the ingredients. I crack an egg on the pan and grab the spatula. Once the two omelettes are cooked I place them on a clean plate. I make two for myself before frying the bacon and placing them next to the omelettes.

"Jane, what are you doing?" A croaky voiced Adrian asks as he walks into the kitchen still half asleep.

"Breakfast," I answer as I point to the plates on the wooden table. "I didn't want to wake you up, but now that you are up go take a shower while I finish our meal."

Adrain nods and heads upstairs to his room. While he is gone I start on our coffees and make sure to make his the way he likes it. Once the two cups are coffee or finished I place them on the table along with our plates. Just as I am finish washing the pan and tools I used Adrian enters the room. His brown locks were still wet and the water made them look darker.

"This looks delicious." Adrian compliments as he takes a seat. He lets out a moan as he takes a bite off the food. I smile as he gives me a thumbs up.

I take a seat across from him and start digging into my food. The delicious meal made my hangover headache decrease in pain and I am hoping it helped Adrian, too.

"So what happened yesterday after we came back from the restaurant?" I ask as I set down my mug. "I can't seem to remember."

"I just remember dancing, then you passing out on the couch and I followed shortly." Adrian answers. My heart sinks in disappointment. "See I told you, he didn't say anything last night!" My inner self scolds me.

"That's it?" I ask and he nods in response.

"That's all I can remember, unless you recall something else?" He answers.

I give him a small smile and shake my head, "I think that's what happened, I honestly can't remember anything."

Adrian looks down at his clock and his eyes nearly pop out.

"We are supposed to be at the airport in thirty minutes!" He states as he quickly stands up and starts washing his plate. I place mine in the sink and he starts washing it as well.

"It's alright if we are a few minutes late." I state as I grab my bag and follow Adrian to the door.

"Yeah, but I am never late." He answers and I lock my arms over my chest as I raise an eyebrow. "Okay, maybe once I was late."

"Come, let's get going mister flawless." I tease I help him place our suitcases into the trunk and drive us to the airport. My head still ran back to that image, those words that I can't get out of my mind. "He already told you! Nothing happened!" As much as I wanted to believe my inner self I was hoping that maybe it did happen.

"What's on your mind?" Adrian asks as he turns to look at me before focusing his eyes back on the road.

You. "Uh, nothing just about how much I am going to miss this place." I easily lie.

"I am really going to miss it here, too." Adrian answers. His sight never leaving the lane in front of us. "By the way thank you for the exquisite breakfast."

"No problem, but I should be the one thanking you...for bringing me here. It's a dream come true." I reply as I turn to look at him with a smile.

"You are welcome, I really enjoyed it here." Adrian answers as he smiles back.

"Spending time with you, alone." He whispers. "Like today at the restaurant it was fun and I loved it. I loved spending time with you..."

Sleep was winning the battle and I could barely keep my eyes open or my focus steady. Adrian's words didn't make sense anymore as my eyelids began to shut. Sleep was overpowering me and I didn't stop it, nor did I want to, I was too tired to fight back. I felt a hand stroke my cheek as his last words filled my tired ears.

"Jane, I-I like you."

I turn to look at the brown haired blue eyed man next to me before staring at the lane in front of us. "He was drunk, he didn't know what he was saying." He doesn't like me, he was just drunk and so was I. People do stupid things when they are drunk.

"Jane, are you sure you are fine?" Adrian asks.

I give him an assuring smile and answer, "Dandy." Not!

Someone like him will never like you, you were just the waitress at the diner he went to. You are just his fake fiancé! Nothing more.

Adrian and I arrived at the airport only five minutes late. We were escorted to Adrian's private jet and we got settled in as we wait for the plane to lift off.

"Are you used to planes? Or do you still need me to hold your hand?" Adrian teases and I roll my eyes.

"I think I can be good on my own now." I reply causing Adrian to chuckle. He turns on the television since we had nothing else to do. "So, how are the companies doing?"

"McKeller is doing great, Jacob let's just say it is getting there." Adrian answers.

"Is it bad to say I am not surprised Damian and his father would do something like this?" I ask and Adrian laughs.

"It's not. I myself am not surprised either." Adrian answers. I let out a soft laugh before the attendant brings us our drinks. I swallow the two pain killers with the help of the water and my headache starts to vanish.

I steal a quick glance at Adrian before turning my attention to the television. I feel everything around me freeze, as my heart beat stops at the two familiar faces on the other side of the screen. No, it can't be! My senses started to malfunction, as my surroundings started closing in on me.

"Jane?" Adrian's voice could be heard in the background but at this time it didn't seem important to me as my eyes were still trained in the couple. "Jane!"

I pulled back to reality as Adrian turns my head to look at his worried expression.

"Jane, what happened? Why are you crying?" I hadn't realized the salty tears that were cascading down my cheeks.

"T-They are not dead."
