《The Billionaire's Proposal》New York, New York (Part I)

-"Love can bring light into our lives, even in the darkest of times."
Don't look down. Don't look down. I kept chanting in my head those same three words but I still looked down. I gripped the seat tightly, my knuckles turning white in the process.
"Jane we haven't even lifted off yet." Adrian states from beside me.
I glare at him and he just rolls his eyes. My stomach felt sick, my palms were sweaty and I could feel a burning feeling in my chest due to my nervous state.
"Why did I even have to come with you?" I question as I turn to look at Adrian who was busy typing away in his computer. "Isn't this your business trip?"
"Yeah, and you are my personal assistant so you have to come, it's your job." Adrian answers not once diverting his gaze away from his laptop. "Would you rather have stayed in the mansion alone for two weeks?"
"Yes, I would have loved that." I reply not hint of sarcasm in my voice.
I wasn't kidding, I would have rather had stayed in that empty and lonely mansion then have to go through this terrifying two hour flight to New York.
Adrian roll his eyes before muttering, "Of course you would."
What is that suppose to mean?
"Mr. McKeller I am going to need to ask you to shut off any electronics since we are about to lift off." The flight attendant states.
Instead of taking a plane like a normal person Adrian being the rich arrogant billionaire he is decided to take his private jet.
"Alright." Adrian answers before shutting off the laptop.
The pilots voice announced that we were about to lift off and I tightened my seat belt. I gripped the chair tightly and a hand was placed over mine. I looked to see it was Adrian's. Without thinking and letting my fear guide me I intertwined our hands gripping his like there was no tomorrow. He didn't seemed bothered and he looked so calm unlike me who was freaking out. Suddenly I left the need to puke.
"If you're going to puke go to the bathroom and do it quietly please." Adrian states and I frown.
There's that arrogant Adrian!
"If I puke I will make sure to aim it at your expensive little shoes." I retort with scowl.
Once the plane was in the air we were able to stand up. I let go of Adrian's hand and look out the window although my mind warned me not to. The sun was starting to rise, rays of red and pink peeked from behind the mountains. The sky was splashed with colors of pink blue and purple. It was beautiful and suddenly being on this plane didn't seem so bad after all.

"Would you like anything to drink?" The flight attendant asked.
"Water please." I answer before she hands me a cup of water.
"Do you want anything to drink Mr. McKeller?" The flight attendant asks and Adrian shakes his head in response.
Once more he was typing away in his laptop so concentrated in his work. Does he ever take a break from work?
"If I do McKeller hotels wouldn't be ranked number one now would it." Adrian answered.
"Did I say that out loud?" I ask hoping he would say no.
"Yes." He replies and I feel my cheeks heat up in embarrassment.
"And I sometimes wonder if you're a grumpy forty year old trapped in a twenty four year old's body." I mumble under my breathe.
I let out a sigh before taking out my copy of Emma by Jane Austen and plug in my ear buds. The Greatest by Sia starts playing and I turn to look at mister grumpy pants one last time before getting swallowed up by the pages of my book.

I stood up from my seat as the doors were opened. My butt was numb and I my legs were all wobbly. Adrian tapped his foot impatiently on the floor as he waited for me with arms crossed.
"Can you walk any faster?" He snaps and I roll my eyes.
Kill me now!
"Who pissed in your Cheerios today?" I mutter as I walk past him and down the steps.
A black limousine awaited for us a few feet away from the jet. A guy dressed in a black suit held the door open and flashed me a white toothy smile.
"Ms. Hamilton." He greets me as he lowers his head.
"Thank you um-" I state trying to figure out his name.
"Darrel." He answers and I give him a smile.
Huh, I've never heard that name before.
"Mr. McKeller." He states as he bows his head once more which Adrian does in return as he states, "Darrel."
"Mr. Donovan has asked to see you at Lucy's Restaurant." Darrel informs and Adrian simply nods before climbing into the black car.
I fought the urge to ask him who Mr. Donovan was.
"We will be staying at one of the McKeller hotels." Adrian states as he typed away on his phone. "Did you bring anything decent with you?"
"Decent?" I ask in disbelief.
I know I didn't wear the most expensive clothes in the world but they weren't the ugliest either.

"Yeah like a formal dress, something that isn't a pair of jeans and t-shirt." He replies and my mouth drops.
"Look, I don't say anything about your sense of fashion so I would advice you not to say anything about mine." I snap as I cross my arms over my chest.
"We'll stop by a boutique to buy something and then we'll head to go meet up with someone." Adrian states.
"You don't need to buy me anything I have a dress in my suitcase." I reply.
"If it's a dress from one of those chain stores you go to then don't even bother." Adrian responds.
That's it I've had enough of this bastard!
"Look here mister not all of us were born into a rich family, some of us actually have to break a sweat to earn enough for a living. Unlike you some can't have the luxuries you do!" I spit out as my face turns red.
"How many times have I told you not to talk to me like that?" Adrian growls but I keep my stand strong.
"And how many times have I told you I don't give two shits what you say." I retort.
Since we were stuck in traffic I decided it was safe for me to just get out of the car which I did catching Adrian by surprise.
"Jane come back here!" He exclaimed but I continued walking.
That's it I had enough of this douchebag who only seemed to say but not think.
"Jane!" He yelled as he ran after to me but I continued walking. "Jane!"
"Fuck off!" I answer earning many stares from people walking by.
"Jane you don't just walk out on me like that." He growls as he turns me around to face him.
"I can do whatever I want." I retort with anger. "No let go off me, I rather get lost than spend another minute with a stuck up rich guy like you."
"No." He answers. "You're coming with me whether you like it or not."
"You can't force me t-"
The sound of thunder interrupted my sentence and I jumped back.
"Come on we need to get back in the car before it rains." Adrian insisted but me being my stubborn self reclined.
"I am not going anywhere with you." I reply.
"Jane," Adrian stated getting frustrated. "Let's go now before it-"
Thunder growled again before rain came pouring down from the gray clouds above us.
"Rains." Adrian finished with a hard line.
His once light brown hair turned dark brown and his expensive suit was now soaked as was I.
"As I said before I rather get lost in the rain than go anywhere with you." I reply.
Adrian let's out a sigh of frustration before marching towards me causing to slowly back away. Before I could turn and run away he grabs me by the waist and states, "Gotcha!"
Adrian easily throws me over his shoulder as if I was as light as a feather. I punched his back but it didn't seem to bother him.
"Adrian put me down!" I hiss but he continues walking back to the limousine.
Finally I give up and am placed in the limousine with arms crossed and my mouth in a hard line.
"Take us to the hotel." Adrian orders and Darrel nods before driving.

"Why do you have to act like a child?" Adrian exclaims as soon as we step into our bedroom.
Unfortunately there were no two bed bedrooms left and there was only this bedroom available. So much for Adrian being the boss.
"Why do you always have to act like a stuck up asswhole?" I retort.
"See there you go again," Adrian stated as he ran a hand through his brown locks. "Why can't you just agree and do as I tell you?"
"Probably because I am not one of your puppets whom you can control at your liking." I answer my voice raising.
"Yet you signed a contract wi-"
"A contract that clearly stated I would be your fake fiancé/wife for a year not your servant!" I snap. "And if I had known that you would be this self centered controlling freak then I would have never signed it!"
With that I walk out of the bedroom and step into the bathroom slamming the door in the process. I took in deep breathe as I slid down the door and sank to the floor.
"Give me strength, please." I whisper as I look up at the ceiling.
