《Money Making MMO》Day 29: Getting Stronger

Phillip’s P.O.V.
Damn. Me and Alex…Uh, Alex and I…have been sitting in this stinking village now for almost a month! After we found out that Evil Ginger was the one we targeted, we decided to lay low. We didn’t wish to fight so we spent all our time just mining and receiving money.
Unfortunately, the mine got more dangerous as time went on. We tried our best to set up the support beams, but we weren’t talented or smart enough to figure out what else we needed to do!
Eventually, the mine collapsed. Thankfully, both of us made it out okay. After that clash with Evil, I had a trauma that my Skill wouldn’t work anymore. But, after some threads got posted, I found out Skills and Spells could be activated using multiple kinds of energy!
I tried using Harden with Mana and was surprised to see my entire body instantly turn black. It wasn’t as strong as using my stamina, but it was fast. This would save time when in battle. If I use stamina, I can only cover a limited area.
Alex was a shield user since that was his weapon of choice. He had a literal Skill called Shield and a Spell called Repel. These Abilities helped us out when the mine collapsed.
My other Ability was a Spell called Dig. Well, it also was a Passive Skill, but I used it as a Spell mostly. It could take a cubic meter of the ground and separate the contents into piles for me. It took a lot of Mana, but it was easy on my muscles.
Plus, even the rocks or animals were given a pile. Since the bugs are normally small and unnoticeable, seeing a pile of them kind of freaked me out. But I got used to it since it was a simple matter to gain ores in good condition. Hell, even the stones could be sold.

But…it’s almost been a month and the Lord has changed. Was it an Event we didn’t know about? Could there be someone who is completing really difficult Quests? Whoever the new guy was, he changed the whole place.
The surrounding villages had a reduced tax to celebrate the new Lord’s arrival. This meant a lot for the other villages that already lost their Adventurers. Our village still had us and one girl left over who hadn’t left for the Coliseum City.
Some knights came by to gather up all of us Players. Apparently, the new guy is a Player like us. He wanted to let us know we had possibilities to get stronger if we helped him. We didn’t even need to join him, just complete Quests for the people of this region!
This will be easy.
Me and…Alex and I finally made it to the Lord’s city and we were ushered to the plaza. There before us stood a familiar red headed bearded man.
Him! Wow, he really got cleaned up. His beard is trimmed, his hair is cut, and he’s wearing clean garments. I am not talking about normal clothes, these are the ritzy stuff. Next to him was a little green girl with green and blue hair. She looked weird, but not ugly. It was a strange combination, but it was fine. Even a little cute.
Apparently, there was still close to several thousand Players nearby. Not many people wanted to be Humans, so they picked stuff like Elves or Dwarves. They wanted to live that fantasy life and I guess escape from reality.
I wanted to do that too, but I planned on making money. I needed it after all! I wanted to join Merry-Go-Roundabout’s Clan, but I would have had to turn in all the money I had! What kind of bullshit is that?! Oh sure, you would pay me back. And so what?! Then I would have to work for the people that come after me?! Hell no!

But back to the present. Evil gave us a residence hall in the form of an Adventurer’s Guild House. This was an established work group that helped travelers find easy jobs to make easy money. It was like the system in real life.
We register as an ‘Adventurer’ then pick jobs that are within our abilities and complete the objective. We would gain reputation for our jobs well done and then use that to work better high paying jobs. It was a good system that allowed for those of us who didn’t want to settle down or just wanted some quick money.
Although the real world had problems finding a place to work, the Adventurer’s Guild had trouble finding people to work! Not many Adventurers wanted to work on a hunting job since that was risky as hell. But Evil Ginger decided to set up a huge bootcamp to either demoralize us or get us in shape. I can’t tell which.
Thankfully, me…Alex and I did really well and already completed it. We could easily deal with any Beast that appeared around here. Now that we could complete simple hunting Quests, we were gaining more money than ever before!
There are still some problems, especially since there seems to be some non-Humans walking around the city. Then again, the green girl wasn’t Human. But the surrounding region saw an increase in production and more economical growth. Used to, the food was around 10 Bronze for a single meal. Now, you can get the same meal for only 5 Bronze! Even meat on a stick was several Bronze before the change. Now they were just 2 Bronze!
The NPCs enjoyed the prosperity that Evil Ginger brought. Hell, it wasn’t just the NPCs! Every day, Alex and I (YES!) would stay up partying the night away, conversing with the Heroes of Torwächter. We even went on little excursions with them as well. We were almost roped in, but decided against it. We didn’t want to overstay our welcome. We knew we weren’t strong. We hadn’t killed a Beast yet since they were rare around these parts.
Although, tomorrow Evil is setting up a trip to some forests in search for Beasts. Alex and I agreed on going just to kill our first Beasts. I wonder how it’ll turn out.
I’m kind of excited my first adventure.

A Step Behind Death
Please share your thoughts about the story! Feedback and criticism is welcome, it'll help me improve my writing. "The final year of high school is the most difficult." This statement has never been truer for Damis, a student attending one of the many schools in the City of Sundridge. He never wanted anything more than to live a peaceful life, going so far as to avoid having large group of friends, indulging in dragged out conversations, or being involved in any other activity that requires him to invest a large amount of effort to accomplish. Instead, he poured all of his efforts into studying, dwelling in his internal monologues, and complaining about the things that annoy him to his one and only friend, Noah. Before long, he ended up as one of the best students in his class. As far as he was concerned, he was content with how he lived. But, after a confrontation with an eccentric girl named May, one of his classmates since the first year of high school, things have suddenly gotten out of hand. And as a result, his life became a lot more hectic than it used to be. Bound by a deal he could not refuse, his life as May's assistant began. At this rate, can he still spend the final days of his high school life in peace? Welcome to the life of Damis, the boy who's always A Step Behind Death. The cover art is made by friend of mine. I plan on making this novel into a webtoon once it becomes the best it can be. English isn't my first language, so expect some grammar bumps along the way.

A Cleric's Life for me.
This is a casually written story loosely based on TTRPG games like DnD and Pathfinder. The attempt of the story is to have a slow growth in power and comical set of characters who eventually grow close and set off for more serious adventures. There will be plenty of familiars and funny tales that don't involve combat. The intention is not to be a goody-two-shoes cleric story where nothing bad happens. The intention for this story was a slow paced grungy story where everything seemed great at first and things just kept getting worse. I learned how shitty of a story that is to write and honestly I am just not good enough to get the idea down. I plan on revisiting it later.
