《Just Another Isekai》Chapter 5: Second First Steps
Advertisement
Ever since the day of the demon extermination, even though there had never been a demon to begin with, life at the Kenworth estate had settled down. Daveed’s scheme had failed long before it began. The viscount was far too busy gallivanting the capital and the young master far too busy managing the province.
Three months had passed since then and the twins were now under the watch of a newly appointed caretaker, a kind elderly woman by the name of Gloria. She was a wonderful cook that was instantly loved and respected by all, even if she did suddenly turn up a few days prior.
“Come now Master Kyle.” She called to him, kneeling with wide-open arms. “I know you can do it, all you have to do is try.”
Kyle hesitated as he stared at the few miles between him and Gloria, hugging the wall.
[You’re not gonna make it.] Kevin sat with his back against the wall, staring at his scarlet-eyed twin. [We both know that you’re just gonna end up kissing the floor again.] His words were like daggers, stabbing away at what little confidence he could muster.
[Why do you have to be such a dick?] Kyle asked, not expecting a reply. [Try being like Gloria, say some words of encouragement instead of being such a downer.] He then stared back at the distant cook and then leaned closer to hug the wall.
Your ‘Aura of Malice’ has been resisted.
A few seconds of silence passed. Perhaps thinking of what he could say, Kevin finally made his attempt. [Do it, you fucking pussy.] Those words had earned him a scowl from the recipient.
With the young master refusing to make an attempt, she brought out the one thing she hoped would make him move. “Come now, master Kyle.” Gloria said in a childlike voice. “Don’t you want to come and play with me?”

Kyle was first shocked and horrified at what he had just witnessed, quickly becoming enraged. [Do it!] He demanded, pointing an accusatory finger at the woman that dared to commit such a heinous crime. [Do it!]
Kevin looked at him and then sighed as he shook his head. He manifested his aura, unleashing it upon her.
Your ‘Aura of Malice’ has been resisted.
Much like Daveed, Gloria had been immune to the aura’s effects, barely registering its presence. The only difference between her and Daveed was that she didn’t rely on items, making her by far the strongest individual they had encountered, which wasn’t much considering that they spent nearly a year confined in their room.
Completely unaware of the situation at hand, Gloria repeated herself. Lifting Kyle’s blanket to cover her face. “Come now master Kyle, come play with me.” This only added fuel to the fire, leading him to take his first step.
He did not know when or how he became so attached to that inanimate piece of cloth, a product of the mini-amnesias from a few months prior, but he wouldn’t stand it being disrespected in such a way. The cause of his anger was rather idiotic. Gloria had been holding it incorrectly. The blue side of the blanket was supposed to be outwards while the grey side was meant to be inwards. She used the blue part to cover her face. Yes, that was it. That was the cause.
Each clumsy and uncoordinated step fueled by his righteous anger. Just a few more steps, he told himself. A few more steps to get it back, then I’ll never part with it ever again.
You have gained the ‘Walking’ skill, ‘Walking’ is now rank F.
Upon acquiring the skill, the effects took place immediately. No longer were his steps clumsy and uncoordinated, they were now clumsy and coordinated. A rank F skill could only improve so much, but it still took effect nonetheless.

The first thing he did when he reached the elderly cook was snatching back his precious blanket. The second thing he did was demand Kevin to attack her, for he had been far too enraged to realize what he had just accomplished.
“Congratulation master Kyle, you did it!” She exclaimed as she raffled his dark, raven hair. She then picked him up and threw him up multiple times.
Realizing what he had just accomplished, Kyle gleefully enjoyed himself, his anger disappearing as if it never existed.
[What happened to your anger?] Kevin asked with a puzzled expression, watching the scene unfold before him.
[What anger?] Kyle asked, having no clue what he was talking about.
[You just wanted me to blast her with my powers.] He said, now clearly irritated. [And that was just a few seconds ago!]
[You’re just jelly that she likes me.] Kyle stated what he believed to be true as he rested his head on the cook’s shoulder with a satisfied grin.
“Come now, you deserve a treat for such hard work.” She walked out of the room with Kyle in tow, smiling as she basked in the mana that radiated off of him. She closed the door, barely giving the other twin a second glance.
Your ‘Aura of Malice’ has been resisted.
He sighed as he stared at the blue box that hovered before him, before getting up to walk towards his crib. With a single leap, he made it past the bumper and gently laid himself, staring at the ceiling. It was only morning, and he was going to be free for a long, long while.
Now before we bring this chapter to a close, I’d like to apologize for my incompetence as a narrator. The twins had unknowingly gained access to the system, which was news that even I didn’t expect. I planned on introducing it some time before their awakening, but the ability to gain skills during infancy changes everything. I shall now end it with a showcasing of their stats and skills, for what is a LitRPG without its blue box.

This is a story of two old men trying to free from the shackle of their destiny set in a future only to await their impending doom. This is a story of a dead god, and of a storyteller, trying to break from the bonds of the past. And as their stories go, one of them will face the events that unfold in their distant past, as the other one will unveil its mystery predicted by its future. Is it a mistake to challenge fate, after all? *** The world-building is set upon on the universal scale, with dungeon and old-style fantasy. It has a progression that follows with the consistency of a dungeon setting, although it's not what you call a dungeon, but a function of a crystal. There's a lot to take in this novel, but that's all within my intention. I have always enjoyed challenging conventional ideas. The cover is not mine, it's just temporary.
