《That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Dwarf While Trapped in a Dungeon Full of Spiders》Chapter 6 : Noticeable Gains

You have rested. Please use any Unallocated Class and Attribute Points before continuing.

“Can I select a different class?”

The System feels different from the Void. Like a multiple-choice answering machine as opposed to the sarcastic, evil presence I’ve gotten used to dealing with.

Class

Fighter Lv_0

Ranger Lv_0

Cleric Lv_0

Hmmm, there is an implication here, I could put a point in each and maybe get skills in every possible class or be a very weak amalgamation of all four.

“Should I take levels in Cleric with my high wisdom?”

After a prolonged moment of silence, I start to miss the Void. No nuggets of wisdom to be found here. Not even my nebulous intuition gives me any hints. Well, let me think I have the following-

Strength : 7

Dexterity : 6

Intelligence : 7

Wisdom : 10

Constitution : 7

Charisma: 1

Bonus Stat Luck: 12

A Class has to build on my strengths, and so far, my three highest stats are Wisdom, Intelligence, and Strength. Ignoring Strength for a moment, my best stats are still closely related to spellcasting. Taking more levels in Wizard wouldn’t hurt...

“If I level up Cleric, would I still need to believe in a deity?”

A voice laughs in the infinity nothing. The sound crawls my skin and chills my bones.

You mortals and your questions. Your initial path is your path, a road that is narrow yet widens with experience. No single decision can put a fork in it! Is a dirt road different from a paved one? Or one made with gravel? If a stream leads to a river, does your piss change its nature? No.

I don’t know what the fuck any of that means. But I feel enlightened somehow or emboldened enough to make a choice, my choice.

I push 2 points to Wizard and 2 points to Cleric. I stave off the notifications as I focus on the stat spread. 5 points to Constitution, 7 points to Luck, 5 points to Intelligence, and the remaining 3 points to Strength.

You have Gained 1 Perception

Unintended consequences for haphazard choices. That is indeed the spirit of things.

“What the fuck happens now!”

I can feel the Void smiling at me, at my confusion at my indignation. And simply enjoying it, reveling in it like a child watching an ant farm flooding.

You suffer. And you find out.

I don’t wake up feeling any different or like I’m under attack. Which is a welcome change of pace. I am on the floor and not on the bunk bed, though. That’s not good. And a weird black mist is rolling in under the door.

Ok, alarm and panic, alarm and panic. I scramble up to the bottom bunk before deciding to do one better and climb to the top. The mist seems harmless, and I’m not choking or in pain, so I check my character status.

Character Status

Health : 104/104

Stamina : 56/56

Mana : 130/130

Conditions : Rested, Curse of Grave Water (As an effect of being near a corrupted water source, you are drawn to it for as long as the corruption remains. Resisting will cause insanity.)

The status screen practically twitches with the number of repeating “You have Resisted Curse of Grave Water” messages. Only my practice ignoring notifications is warding off the massive headache that would cause. Or maybe that habit is the only thing keeping me sane. If I was born here, would I ignore the status screen? Or would the repeating messages invade my thoughts and corrupt my mind?

“How do I remove the curse?”

This time I can hear the System churning a response to my question. Am I supposed to hear that? To notice? The Stat Perception seems to dance at the corner of my eye, and a feeling of dread settles in the pit of my stomach. A part of me that has remained very silent up till now is resolving that I should never ever want to know what really lies underneath this world.

You must destroy the ??????? which has diverted and polluted the waters.

“What the fuck is ?????”

The System churns again, and this time Identify seems to flare from the corner of my eye as my head seems to burn with new information.

“Fucking Christ!” I scream as my head wobbles, and the mist-covered floor seems dangerously close. Closer than I remember. The pain is like a nail being driven down and through my skull, and I throw up the contents of my empty stomach on reflex as the pain reaches its apex.

You have Leveled Identify.

The headache subsides slightly

You have Acquired Glossary.

Translating missing Quest Text : You must destroy the Basilisk, which has diverted and polluted the waters.

The nail finds its destination and everything goes white and red.

Monster Glossary

Basilisk :: Large serpentine creature that has become the dominant sentient species on their home world. They are ambushing predators known to specialize on hominids, with their scales resistant to magic and their eyes possessing an irresistible power of petrification. Their large size can be attributed to their ability to lure animals to cursed bodies of water where they lie in wait for easy meals.
