"Your majesty, what do we do?" A guard wearing a set of red ceremonial leather armor asked as he approached the "man". "Our only hope is him." Another guard wearing a set of black plate armor said as he looked at the infant. "Let's perform the ritual now." The "man" Said with a deep sigh. "But my king, if we do that then there will be no hope for us." The woman with the silver wings said. As their conversation went on, Will attempted to get a better look at them but alas, the more he tried to see them the more blurry their figures became. " I know that there will be no future for us but at least our worlds legacy will continue. My queen, will you please think this through? I know that my choice is selfish. I know that he will be forced to go through many hardships and pain that none of us can imagine but at least he will live on. Does anyone disagree with this kings choice? If so then please don't stand on ceremony and give this king their opinions." The "Man" or king said as he looked at the crowd that gathered outside of the park that they were in. "No, my king." "We do not object." "if you will listen to us my liege, then I think I speak for all of the guards when I say that your request is not selfish but selfless." The same guard that spoke earlier said after the outburst of the crowd. "Let the ritual begin. We will seal this dimension and all the heritage of our people into his soul so that no matter what path he chooses he will be able to follow to the end. In doing so we will need to use the life force of everyone present and there is also the chance of it going wrong. . . " Just as the king was about to finish he caught sight of the elders who were maintaining a barrier around the city. "Great elders, why have you come? Who is maintaining the barrier?" The king said as he turned to face them. "There is no use, the demons have broken through. We have come to offer our life essence to our prince." The elder who was in the front said to the king as the other eleven elders moved to form a circle around the monarchs. "Everyone, link arms." The king said as he looked around him and then turned to face his queen. "If only this calamity would come in one hundred years . . ." The king said with a sigh as he looked down at the infant that was in the queen's arms. "As long as he is able to live a peaceful and fulfilling life then I will be able to move on peacefully." The queen said as she looked down at Will. Everyone moved to where their arms were linked, all except for the queen who was in the center with Will. "I love you Seirá, my queen." The king said as tears rained from his eyes. "I love you as Well, Ordin, my king," Seirá said as tears rained down on the infant while she watched those around here turn into dust. The entire time the ritual was going on, her eyes never left the infant. She aged right before Will's eyes. First, her flesh slowly started to wrinkle and turn grey until she resembled a corpse. Her wings fell off and her clothes turned into rags as the world around then turned crimson. A rift that led into infinite darkness opened beneath her as she and the infant fell into it . . . . Will awoke and found himself drenched in salty tears. He was inside the makeshift bed that he had made. He stood up and cried until his eyes turned red and blood slowly rained down. "My prince, your hardships have only begun," Kapo said as he watched Will pass out. The next day Will awoke and opened the Celestial System for the first time in ages. His spirit stat change was what shocked him the most. Wow, I hope that my stats are not inferior to anyone else in my age group. "Ha, people generally have the same stats as you when they experience their first awakening. The ceremony for it is generally held when they turned ten years of age." Kapo said with disdain. . . . . Will was too shocked to comment on what Kapo said. "Is it too late for me to have the ceremony performed?" Will asked Kapo. "It is never too late for the ceremonies of the Yūsei to be performed. It is very simple but the requirements to begin it is simple. All you need is to draw a magical formation that will direct the energy of the world into your body, strengthening it." Kapo said as he awaited Wills response. "Okay, before we begin with the ceremony, can you explain the leveling system?" Will asked Kapo. "Generally, you gain Experience or Exp from leveling up skills and killing stuff," Kapo said as he waited for Will's reply. "Killing stuff?" Will asked Kapo as he tried not to become confused. "Any living thing such as animals, sentient beings, monsters, and demons. Every time you level up, you will be awarded "Points" to put into your stats to increase them. As your stats level up and your knowledge over the laws of the universe increase then naturally your skills will evolve and become more powerful." Kapo said as he waited for Will to become unconfused. "How long will the ceremony take?" Will asked Kapo as he tried to change the subject. "It will take a month for it to finish, also the breaking of the seal took more time than expected and that tournament you wanted to attend ended yesterday. Before you freak out, nothing has happened to them yet." Kapo said as he tried to not to make him freak out. "Alright, after the ceremony I will return home," Will said as he waited for Kapo's instructions.

The Last Science [SE]
[SE has the same content as the original story, split into smaller chunks for easier reading. This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion. Please use your best judgment, and don't be afraid to take breaks and come back later. I'll still be here! [Discord] - come hang out and chat!
