《When Paths Converge: A MHA Fanfic》33. Moments of Domestic Life

Izuku had no clue how Nedzu was able to push their adoption through in a month, maybe it had to do with U.A.'s legal department being one of the best in Japan, or maybe because as pro heroes Yamada and Aizawa had licenses to foster children. But now they were officially adopted!

“So, um, did you want to take our names?” Yamada asked, shifting from foot to foot as he watched them.

Izuku blinked, his eyes widening at the question. “Yes!”

“Won’t that be weird at school?” Yui-nee asked, raising an eyebrow, “Won’t it be seen as favoritism or some b.s.?”

“I…I guess that’s right…” Mic’s shoulders slumped, his lip out in a pout.

“What if we combine your last names? Yui-nee and I can take the combined name while you keep yours? Like…um…Yamazawa?” He pressed his index finger to his chin in thought.

“Izuku Yamazawa…it fits you.” Yui-nee grinned as she ruffled his hair, “I’ll go along with that. I have no attachments to my name. Are you sure you want to, Izu?”

“Yeah! Midoriya is my father’s last name, so I’m not really attached to it either.” He smiled softly as he rubbed his arm.

“It’s perfect!” They were both pulled into a crushing hug, Yamada was stronger than he looked. “We should have a movie night! The first one since the Yamazawa family became official!”

“First one in the new house.” Aizawa reminded them, they all blinked and turned to him. “What? We haven’t had a movie night all together since we moved in. We’ve been dealing with school and the police and lawyers. This is the first night we’re actually free.”

“Then it’s settled! Green bean pick a movie! I’ll order pizza for dinner and we have ice cream stocked in the freezer, right?” The energetic man released them to grab his phone, already ordering their favorite pizzas.

“Yep, mint chip for me and Izu, coffee for Dadzawa and Papa Mic has fudge brownie. We picked them up yesterday.” Yui-nee said, pulling out the extra pillows and blankets from the closet and setting up the couch. Espresso hopped up to curl up on a pillow in the corner, purring softly as the girl scratched between her ears.

Izuku grinned as he selected a movie called ‘Into the Woods’ before taking his seat on the couch, Bean pouncing and nestling into his curls as he giggled. Latte zoomed into the room, mewing loudly as she weaved between Yui-nee’s ankles as she plugged in the small heating pad and handed it to her brother, along with a stress relief ball. The heat helped the cramps in his hand and he could do his hand strengthening exercises while they watched. The cast had recently come off and he had jagged scars on the back of his hand and palm and smaller ones on his fingers, but the bones were all healed up so now he could work on rebuilding the dexterity he lost.

Aizawa and Mic sat down next to each other, Aizawa sitting at the end of the couch. “Ohh I love this movie!” Yamada grinned as he passed the two teens sodas.

“He’s going to sing along, I hope you realize.” Eraser sighed as Yui-nee sat down on Izuku’s other side, Latte jumping on her lap and demanding pets.

“You can deal with me singing horribly too! I haven’t seen it in a few years.” The green bean smiled as he pressed play. He and Mic singing along to the intro. Eventually Mic had to get up to get the pizza which they ate as they watched.

The two had whooped when Yui-nee had started to singing dramatically along with ‘Agony’ as Cinderella's prince. Then Aizawa had joined in as Rapunzel's prince, tugging on Yamada’s blonde hair playfully.

Izuku had teared up when Yui-nee and Mic had started to sing ‘You are not alone.’ He always cried at the song, ever since his mother had died, but he felt there was truth in it, at least for him. He wasn’t alone, not anymore

“What? Yui you’ve never had a girl’s night?” Auntie Nem gasped, her eyes wide as she looked at Yui-nee. “You’ve never sat down to watch bad romantic comedies and have someone play with your hair or do your nails as you talked about boys you liked?”

Izuku tilted his head at her, they were staying at Midnight’s so their dads could have their date night. It had been six weeks since they’d moved in, and they all agreed the two needed some time alone. Yui-nee raised an eyebrow at the woman, “I watched Himi and Izu do that stuff when she lived with us but I didn’t partake. I was usually working on some gadget or reading or working on my computer.”

“Then we’re having one tonight! No objections!” Auntie took the book the teen had been reading, marking the place and closing it.

“I-I’m not a girl…but can I join you two?” Izuku stuttered, scratching the back of his head.

“Of course! You can be an honorary girl for tonight!” Auntie pulled him into a hug, “You can pick out the movie and I’ll get the stuff I need for our nails and stuff! Change into your pajamas and get comfy!”

“Ma’am, yes, ma’am!” Izuku grinned as he saluted her before going to follow her instructions.

“No way I’m getting out of this, huh?” Yui-nee asked, at the other woman’s grin she sighed, “No red nail polish for me please.” She went to get changed.

When the three were on the living room floor surrounded by nail polish, hair products, and enough snacks that they definitely wouldn’t need dinner, Izuku started the movie.

Midnight pulled out a pack of face cleaning wipes. “Okay, we’ll start with this. Use these to clean your faces.” Once that was done she held up a jar, “This is a face mask, I’ll put it on you two.” Izuku giggled as his face was coated with a layer of the stuff, Yui-nee taking a headband to corral his curls away from his face.

“There! Now we wait for it to do its magic! I use this once a week and it’s helped me look the same as when I was in my early twenties.” Midnight winked at them, “As a hero, it’s important to make sure you look good.”

“Especially if you’re a girl.” Yui-nee scoffed, rolling her eyes.

“Yes, unfortunately heroines have a harder time than the men. We have to be marketable to get up in the rankings, so a pretty face is almost a requirement.” The older woman shrugged as she pulled out another jar, sitting behind Izuku as she started to work the cream into his curls.

“That’s so stupid, your looks shouldn’t determine if you can be a hero or not.” He huffed, leaning back into her touch as he closed his eyes.

“That’s what you have to put up with in this industry. Unless you’re Eraser and you avoid the press like they’re the plague.” She chuckled softly as his curls lost their frizz, “You should put this in your hair more often, you’ll have to beat people off you with that staff of yours.”

“It’s so much work, Auntie!” He pouted, “A-and I doubt I’d have to do that.”

“Nonsense! You’re adorable, even when your curls go everywhere.” She smiled as she cleaned her hands. “But you should use this at night, it’s a leave in conditioner, it’ll help keep your hair healthy. So! Anyway, Izu tell me about your boyfriend!”

He choked on air, sputtering out a cough, “I don’t have a boyfriend!”

“He’s a friend who’s a boy.” Yui-nee grinned as Midnight started to play with her hair, twisting strands into small braids. “They text all the time, and Toshi gets so worried about him. They exchange cat memes.”

“Nee-chan! We’re just really good friends! I only met him in person once!” He groaned, feeling his face warm and wondering if they could see the blush under the mask.

“Are you going to see him now that you aren’t a vigilante anymore? You don’t have to worry about people seeing your face anymore.” The older woman smiled at him, “You should get out more now, green bean, make more friends and spend time outside. You can’t be like this one and hide yourself in your room with gadgets.”

“You love the electric whip I made you, don’t lie.” The teen grinned, “You chased Papa Mic around the gym with it. Nedzu sent me the video.”

“You two and your blackmail videos.” She shook her head.

“You never know when you need to bribe or intimidate someone.” She shrugged, “You should see the one with Izu-“

“Don’t finish that sentence, Nee-chan!” Izuku squeaked as the two laughed.

“Okay, okay. But she’s right, Izu. You should meet up with Toshi. He’s a good kid.”

“I just…I’m just kinda scared? I never told him about being…you know, Quirkless…everyone in my old school bullied me or ignored me when they knew. Some of them said they were afraid they’d catch it…What if Toshi is like that?” His voice came out soft and shaking a little as he hugged his knees to his chest. He really didn’t want to lose Toshi as a friend, they texted each other almost every day. It’d be like having Kacchan turn on him all over again…

They both blinked before they pulled him into a hug. “If he cares about that, he doesn’t fucking deserve you, Izu. You’re worth so much more than a stupid Quirk.” Yui-nee growled.

“Yeah! You don’t need one to kick ass, and those notebooks of yours? You’re scary smart! You were right that I needed to add protection to my torso, and that self-repairing fabric really helps control my Quirk.” Midnight smiled, “We love you with or without a Quirk and this Toshi boy will too! And if he doesn’t, then he’ll have to answer to like eight people.”

He couldn’t help but chuckle “He’s already scared of Nee-chan…”

“Good, I’m glad that he took me seriously.”

“Do I want to know what you did, Yui?” Midnight giggled as she pulled back, slowly peeling the mask from Izuku’s face as he tried not to squirm.

“Nothing that anyone can prove,” the teen shrugged as she started to peel her own mask off.

“But he knows better than to hurt the cinnamon roll?”

“I let him know the consequences. We will have to wait and see if he’s smart enough to listen.”

“You two sound like you’re planning murder.” Izuku giggled before he caught the looks the two sent each other’s way. “No! No murdering my friend!”

“Okay, okay, green bean, no murder plans. I promise.” Midnight chuckled softly, “Now did you want to paint your nails with us?”

“Oh sure, I’ve had Himi-chan do it a few times and it’s cute. What color should I do? She usually painted mine red.” He smiled as he helped peel off the woman’s mask.

“Purple.” Yui-nee grinned, “You have so much green, purple will look good. Any color would really, but purple will look like hydrangeas or lavender. Plus Toshi has lavender eyes.”

“Oh! You should wear purple when you see him, it’ll be so cute! When Sho and Zashi started dating they used to wear a color that represented each other. That’s why Zashi wears black leather and Sho has his bright yellow goggles.” Midnight smiled as she pulled out lavender and a darker purple nail polish.

Izuku felt his face flush, before Midnight cooed, squeezing his cheek “You’re a strawberry!”

“Auntie!”

“Izuku, are you ready?”

The teen’s head snapped up at Eraser’s voice, “Oh yeah! Sorry, I kinda got…engrossed.” He chuckled as he closed his notebook and put it on the table as he stood up. He had gone through two months of therapy with Granny Chiyo for his hand, and last week she cleared him to train again. So Aizawa was teaching him how to use his capture weapon!

Eraser raised an eyebrow as Yui-nee walked into the room wearing one of the outfits Auntie had bought her: a dark blue tank top with a black see-through long-sleeved shirt over it, black ripped skinny jeans and black leather boots with chains, along with a black choker with a silver pentagram. She had on smoky eye makeup and teal lipstick. He prompted her, chuckling as she gave a sheepish grin when she noticed his look, "Nemuri?"

Yui let out a breath, her shoulders slumping. "Yeeeeeah. She picked everything out for me to try after she grilled me on what I thought looked nice during our last outing...She threatened to cry if I didn't do everything 'just so'."

“Are you sure you don’t want to join us for capture weapon training, Yui?” Eraser asked, giving her the out.

Yui chuckled leaning against Izu's chair and ruffling his hair, “You keep that demonic scarf away from me. Never again, Eraserdad. I’ll go out with Auntie.” She rubbed her arm before looking up at him, "And...I maybe kinda....like it?"

Yui shook her head as if she was going to back up and deny it, before doubling down, "It's just....wild having a female figure who I don't have to worry will lash out at me...I...feel kind of cool right now?" Her cheeks blushed as she timidly struck a pose, rolling her eyes at the encouraging 'whoop' from Izu.

Aizawa's eyes softened as he walked forward and put his hand on her shoulder, "Well...it might be a little early for sheer clothing, but...you do look good problem child. Don't be afraid to pull back on Nemuri if she over does it. She can get a little zealous and your comfort takes priority ok?"

Yui nodded giving him a tight hug, "She said it was important to show off my 'bad-ass scars'...it'd give me 'cred' on the scene?"

Aizawa pinched the bridge of his nose conflicted, Nemuri's normalizing the scars to her though...that's definitely worth the kid being thrown in the deep end. "S-she'd know better than I."

Yui chuckled giving him one more squeeze before leaving the house with a smile, "Bye Eraserdad! Have fun with the demon scarf Izu!"

Izuku smiled as he patted his shoulder, “Don’t worry Dad-Dadzawa, Yui-nee won’t let anyone take advantage of her. And Auntie Nem won’t either!”

Aizawa ruffled his curls, “Yeah, let’s head to U.A., problem child. We’re going to work on you using your capture weapon to move about in an urban environment.”

Izuku groaned as he laid on concrete sidewalk of Ground Beta, his tank top soaked with sweat as he panted.

“You okay, problem child?” Eraser leaned over him, holding a water bottle in one hand.

“Yeah…just dying, ‘s fine.” He panted, squinting up at the man who’d been having him run and swing from street lamps and fire escapes and any other structurally sound places for the last two hours. The teen considered himself pretty fit and with decent stamina, but the damn scarf wasn’t always cooperative with what he wanted it to do. Maybe Yui-nee was right and the thing was possessed?

He snorted, “You’re not dying. Here, drink something.” The teen groaned as he reached up for it, downing the bottle in a few moments. “You’re doing really well, it took me a long time to get control of it.”

“You had to basically make up the way to use it though. Of course, it would take you a long time to know how to work with it.” He huffed as he sat up, “It's amazing you had the idea of a weapon like this, most people underestimate it, because they think it’ll be easy to get free or break it.”

“It worked out for me.” He shrugged, “But you’re still advancing faster than I thought you would. Even when you have issues with controlling it you haven’t slammed into any walls yet.”

Izuku grinned up at him, “I have a great teacher,”

“Most of my students say I’m too strict.” He grumbled as he helped Izuku to his feet.

“Well, they’re a bunch of pansies! You’re training heroes, you have to be hard on your students so they don’t get killed within the first week! You know, I looked up the statistics. Your classes that you’ve taught have a twenty-two-percentage advantage of making it through their first two years as official heroes. You have the highest expulsion rate, but the students that make it to graduation are so much more successful. Don’t you have a say for every first-year heroes' class?”

“Hmmm only the A class. Kan gets the B class. Usually, a teacher stays with the class until graduation but Nedzu allows me to expel students who don’t show potential for any of my classes. Midnight is actually going to be class 1-A's teacher this year. My class will be starting their second year. So, if you make it into 1-A after you apply, you’d get me as a homeroom teacher.”

He grinned up at him, “That means I have to be in the top 18 if I take the entrance exam, or the top two if I can take the recommendation exam, right?”

“Yep. Now come on, let’s go another round.”

“Okay!”

“Shhh! Nem is on her way up with her! Izu turn off the lights!” Yamada whisper-yelled as he pulled Aizawa behind the couch.

“On it!” Izuku grinned as he ran to switch the lights off, Dabi pulling the curtains closed as Himi-chan giggled softly as she hid just out of sight in the hallway. He ducked back behind the couch, rocking back and forth on his heels as he waited, Granny Chiyo shushing them.

“Yeah, I’m fine, Auntie. I’m just tired, I stayed up last night on a project for Tsuki…” Yui-nee’s voice reached his ears as she walked in through the door. Izuku glanced at the man mentioned, seeing the frown on his face, and knew his sister was lying.

“Well, you shouldn’t sleep yet, you’ll throw off your schedule!” The front door closed and footsteps came closer when the light flicked on.

“SURPRISE!” They all jumped out of hiding places, Himi-chan and Yamada pulling the strings on their confetti tubes. Midnight had her hands on the younger girl’s shoulders as her teal eyes went wide and her hand went to the knife she carried at her back.

“Holy shit, what the hell!?” Yui-nee put a hand over her heart, her cheeks tinting pink as she huffed out a breath.

“Language, young lady!” Granny waved her cane at her, Izuku and Himi-chan bouncing up to the teen and pulling her into a hug.

“Happy birthday!” They chorused, picking her up off the ground as she squeaked, giggling like maniacs as she tried to get free.

“Dabi! They’re supposed to be on leashes together, we talked about this!” She yelped as Himiko tripped, yanking them down into a pile on the floor as Yamada howled with laughter, holding up the camera.

“They hid them,” He shrugged as he sent them a lazy smirk.

Yui-nee huffed as she wriggled out from under the two, dusting herself off as Bean and Latte pounced on the two on the floor. She blinked, looking around at the decorations hanging around the room, balloons and streamers and a glittery sign with ‘Happy Birthday Yui’ displayed on it.

“You…I honestly thought you forgot…” she said softly.

“I’m sorry, Livewire!” Yamada pulled her into a hug, already looking like he was tearing up. “We wanted it to be a surprise so we pretended to forget. It was so hard!”

“I’m sorry, Nee-chan! It was my idea…I know you don’t like celebrating your birthday but…We have a new life now, so I just thought…” Izuku bit his lip as he started to mumble, playing with his fingers as he looked around the room.

“You never let us do a big party for you before, so we figured it’d be a good change!” Himi-chan smiled wide as she sat up, cradling Latte in her arms.

“And we go out a lot, so you wouldn’t be suspicious of me taking you away for a couple hours so they could prepare.” Auntie smiled softly as she brushed the teal-tipped bangs away from her face.

Yui-nee blinked, her eyes suspiciously shiny before she broke out in a smile that Izuku didn’t think she had until they had met. It was rare, but it was large and full of warmth like the sun and made her brother break out in a matching smile.

“Thank you…you really didn’t have to go through the hassle.” She said softly as she hugged Yamada back.

“Hey! It was our pleasure! It’d never be a hassle for our Livewire.” The blonde insisted, pulling back to look down at her.

She pulled back to walk further into the room, nudging her shoulder against his, “Thanks pops.”

Izuku’s eye widened before he made sure Eraser was recording. Yui-nee had only used their dad’s names or their nicknames in the near three months they’d been living together. Their cockatoo of a dad started to tear up as he watched her, his gaping mouth transforming into a huge grin.

“Okay okay, stop this sappy sh-stuff.” Dabi huffed, glancing at the elderly woman raising an eyebrow at him. “We have cake to eat, and then presents and-“

“And then we got board and card games! We even got Twister! You can watch Dabi get destroyed by me!” Himiko grinned, holding up the box.

“You wish, I’m finally going to beat you at this game.” He poked her side, dodging back as she went to smack him with the box. He raised his pinkie, a small blue flame coming to life. “Let’s light the candles and start this party.”

Tsukauchi chuckled as he came in with the two tiered cake that was decorated with chocolate frosting with teal accents, Dabi carefully lighting the candles with his flames.

They started to sing as Yui-nee looked away, her face tinted pink. She’d always hated being the center of attention at least when it came to sitting through the birthday song. She quickly blew out the candles as they cheered, Eraser holding a knife to cut the cake when the doorbell rang.

“Who could that be? Everyone is already here?” Yamada asked, going to answer the door.

“Uh…sorry, I might have invited my boyfriend…I didn’t think he’d be able to come since he’s always busy…” Dabi scratched the back of his head, looking toward the ceiling and the window.

“You have a boyfriend?! Why didn’t you tell us?!” Izuku pouted, flashing those puppy-dog eyes up him.

“He won’t even tell me who it is! I’ve been trying to find out for weeks!” Himi-chan huffed, her cheeks puffed out.

“Hey, I’m sorry I got here late…I got held up at the office.”

They all turned to the voice, Yui-nee had to run to steady her brother as he stumbled like he’d been hit between the eyes with a two by four. The young man in front of them had wild, windswept golden hair, piercing amber eyes and two crimson wings on his back.

“You’re dating Hawks?!”
