《When Paths Converge: A MHA Fanfic》8. Murder is Always a Viable Option

“Yui! You can’t go out and murder teachers and Kacchan! It’s fine, I’ve been dealing with it since I was four!”
The thought of thrusting the screwdriver in her hand into the first teacher at Aldera was so tempting, but going off on a rampage with Izuku wrapped around her right leg and hanging on for dear life was less than ideal. What kind of big sister would she be if she traumatized him by ripping apart the negligent teachers and the shitty excuse of a childhood ‘friend’ where he could see?
And apparently the sunshine child with a heart much too large for his chest was going to cling to her like a spider monkey until she calmed down. She let out a frustrated scream that was only muffled by her clenched teeth. She shuffled to her room, dragging Izuku with her since he still wouldn’t let go.
It still looked more or less the same as when she’d moved in, except she’d ordered a black bed set that had teal and green geometric patterns and matching pillows, and there were blueprints on the walls and textbooks on support equipment open on her desk. If she was going to help Izuku train to be a hero, she was going to figure out the best weapons he’d need to even the playing field. She grabbed her laptop and shuffled back to the living room.
“What are you doing?” She huffed at the suspicious tone in his voice. Really, as if she could kill someone by hacking. Well, maybe…no, she couldn’t just find out all their dirty secrets and blackmail them, Izuku might think that was villainous.
“I’m going to help you get ahead of your classes. We're going to get you to test out of elementary and middle school. Like I did. Then you don’t have to deal with asshole teachers and that prick. Now get off I want to sit,” he looked up at her, stars in those emerald eyes before he unhooked himself and scooted back. Was it going to be like a test? He felt the fire in his chest spark up, like it usually did when Yui got that look in her eye. A chance to go all out and challenge himself.

She sat down on the couch, clearing off the table to put her laptop down and pull up a website, typing away “Okay, so this is the site I used. I just set up the account for you. It’s an online school and the first step is to take their assessment. Answer the best you can so we can see where you are.” She moved out of the way, handing him a notebook and pencil.
He took them quickly and flipped to an empty page before he hit the begin button. She picked up her mug, sipping on coffee that had gone cold but she was not going to waste coffee. Some things were sacred. Coffee made from the same beans she found out Yuki used were almost top of her mental list, only under the happiness of one viridian haired angel child.
She sat down to tinker with the bo staff she was constructing. She was trying to make it collapsible but still sturdy enough to use, like Robin from those old pre-Quirk comics. There wasn’t much left, but it seemed like an idea that would give Izuku extra reach against villains. Maybe it should have an electrical component like a taser?
“Yui-nee?” she jolted at her name, looking up at Izuku. “I finished…” her eyes flicked to the clock, almost three hours had passed. She groaned as she straightened up, her back letting out a series of cracks and pops like that one cereal from the states.
She plopped down next to him, making him squeak when the cushion sprang up underneath him. She pulled the computer onto her lap to read his results. What she saw made her lips stretch into what Izu affectionately dubbed her feral grin.
“Were you studying ahead? You can basically pass out of elementary school according to this.” She ruffled a hand through his curls.

He nodded “Y-Yeah, when I wasn’t analyzing Quirks I read ahead. I had a lot of free time since I didn’t hang out with friends. And mom helped me study when she wasn’t at work!” He grinned up at her. “Are you sure? You really think I’m that ahead? I’m only ten.”
“Of course I think that, you know I…what do you mean you’re ten. You said you were nine when we met.” Izuku froze as he looked away, his thumbs twiddling as he fidgeted when her gaze focused on him.
“U-Um…I was…I turned ten on July fifteenth….” He mumbled, looking down at his lap.
“You didn’t tell me your birthday was July fifteenth! I would have gotten you cake! And presents!” her lip jutted out in a pout as she crossed her arms over her chest.
“I…I didn’t want to say anything…you looked like you hadn’t slept and you kept looking around…I didn’t want to bother you.”
Yui blinked, trying to think back, right, that day she'd been up all night to collect data for her parents and had a training session. Then she thought she’d seen her father following her and had spent longer to circle around and go through different paths to make sure she wasn’t leading anyone back to Izu.
She stood up, “Well, there’s only one way to remedy this! We are going to order katsudon from that hoity toity place for delivery, and I’ll go pick up a cake from that bakery and ice cream and we'll go to that hero merch place in the mall and you can go nuts and get whatever you want! You need to decorate your room anyway. How’s that sound?” She smiled at him, rambling a bit in her uncertainty. You needed cake and presents for a birthday, right? She was sure she saw that on TV once.
When Izuku started to tear up with that blinding smile of his, launching himself to give her a bone-creaking hug, she couldn’t stop the relief as the tension from their morning talk lessened. Maybe she couldn’t murder the people who'd hurt Izuku, but maybe she could start to help him heal.

"I get the feeling this story might be one of those 'diamonds in the rough'. The premise is quite solid, there's plenty of room to flesh out the characters. It's quite easy to get into and be engaged by at the moment, imo. I don't know where the story will go from here, but it's off to a good start me thinks." - Xenower Attribution: The cave picture in the book cover is made by Stanislav Sedov and is licensed under CC-BY-SA-2.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ This picture was modified from the original with an overlaid moon and sea picture to be found at https://www.flickr.com/photos/ssedov/26342569905 The photographer has no affiliation to Tschallacka nor can be held accountable for the use of this picture the way as it is here.
