《When Paths Converge: A MHA Fanfic》6. Hijack

“The A-Ranked Villains Hack and Break were arrested today when they walked into a police station, under the influence of a Quirk. Police are still on the trail of the third villain of this group. The villain goes by the name Hijack, if you see an adolescent girl with gray, teal tipped hair and teal eyes, please contact the police department. She is considered an A-Rank Villain despite her age and has been operating for the last seven years. If you have any leads, remember to contact your local police station.”

Yui was frozen as the news blared from the TV, mugshots of her parents were displayed along with their villain names. Murder and assault at the top of both of those lists.

“Yui-nee?” Her body jerked when Izu spoke, slowly turning her head to him. He was pale, his eyes wide as he looked up at her, his hands shaking. “Th-They’re lying, right? You can’t be a…”

Her hands clenched to stop her fingers from shaking, she closed her eyes as she took in a breath. The universe really hated her today, didn’t it? Was this karma? “They’re telling the truth. I am a villain.”

The noise from the TV seemed to fade as she waited. Waited for the screaming, waited for him to run from her, call the police and turn her in. There’s no way her little hero hopeful wouldn’t do the right thing.

Her eyes flew open when thin yet strong arms wrapped around her. “I’m so sorry, Yui-nee…I wish I’d met you sooner so mom and I could have saved you from them.” His voice cracked and she could already feel the tears that slid down her skin.

Just like that, her stranglehold on her emotions broke and her body collapsed against his. She clung to him as sobs wracked her body, tears running down her face as she fisted her hands in his hoodie. She felt the wig get pulled gently from her head, before fingers slid through her hair and a hand rubbed her back in soothing circles.

“It’ll be okay, we have each other, we'll get through this together,” He promised, his voice calm and soft as he spoke by her ear. Her face was buried against his shoulder, the hoodie muffling the noise she made.

They stayed like that for awhile, the TV changing to a late night hero talk show. Yui sniffled as she slowly pulled back, she knew she looked like a mess: her eyes felt swollen and she pulled out the contact case and used her phone’s camera so she could take out the brown lenses. Note to self: don’t cry heavily with contact lenses in.

“Sorry, Izu…” She scrubbed her sleeve against her face to dry any tears.

“Its okay, Yui-nee.” He said softly, she saw him bite his lip before he asked “Can you tell me about your parents? I understand i-if you don’t want to….I just want to know more.”

She took in a breath, before she nodded, “Yeah, that…that’s fair.” She leaned back against the couch, and closed her eyes. Her head felt strangely light after crying so hard, the siren call of sleep whispering to her. But Izuku deserved something for staying by her side this long.

“My mother is Miyu Andenryū. Otherwise known as Break. Her Quirk allows her to ‘shut down’ a person if she has skin contact. She can control it so it’s not constantly active. My father is Haruto Andenryū, his villain alias is Hack. I know, their villain names are stupid. His Quirk allows him to control electronics through touch, and it’s like his consciousness goes into it.” Her voice was soft, and she could hear Izuku pull out his notebook and the scritch of the pencil as he wrote. She couldn’t stop her mouth from twitching into a slight smile.

“Your Quirk must be a mutation of theirs?”

She nodded, “My father’s mother could produce wire from her body. That’s where my microchips came from I think.”

“Hmmm I wonder if you could just make the wires and make it like a whip for an offensive attack … oh Kami I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to interrupt you, I know this must be so hard for you…” he rambled, and she could imaging his hands flailing in front of him as he gestured.

She chuckled softly “Its okay, Izu…I tried to make wires once but I only made the chips. My parents pushed me to figure out what I could do once my Quirk came in. They considered me a success, my Quirk was an upgrade of both of theirs. So they never bothered to have another kid. Even before it came in, they were teaching me about computers, how to read code, make it, break it. I’m still not sure if my skill with computers is truly a skill or just a by product of my Quirk.”

Yui sighed, looking up at the ceiling as she stretched her legs to try to get rid of the pins and needles that ran up them. Izuku let her keep talking, the sound of the pencil on paper was relaxing after being around him so often.

“And then there was the physical training. Running until I passed out, jumping from rooftop to rooftop and praying I wouldn’t miss, the weight training and exercises that made every muscle burn…My parents pushed me until I could take out people bigger and stronger than me.”

A dry chuckle escaped her, “Maybe I should thank them, the training I have you do is a softer version of what they put me through….Anyway, Izu, my parents are not good people but they were the only parents I’ve known. I only saw the path they were on, I mean, who would let a villain’s child be a hero or even just get an office job? And its not like I knew any better when I was four. It was small shit at first. Get past this firewall, access this secure file, find the pattern in this person’s schedule. I think I was seven when I realized they were using the information I gave them to kill people.”

She kept her eyes on the ceiling when she heard his sharp inhale. “The one good thing, I learned how to hack into my father’s computer. He treated it like a game, where he’d try to keep me out or find any traces. If he did…well, I won’t go into that. Maybe some other day…But I learned how to outmaneuver him. My mother was harder, but what she taught was how to fight…”

She finally turned her head to look into his eyes, “But I’ve never killed anyone Izuku. Forced to fight, break into accounts and I’ve stolen money. It’s a lot, and the amount is the reason I’m classified as a villain. That and the association with my parents.” She grit her teeth at the admission, but her shoulders slumped after finally getting that off her chest. Yui had never told anyone that, and it might not have been everything, but it still felt like a weight was gone.

Izuku slid closer to her, before he leaned against her side, his head on her shoulder. He was quiet for a little bit, “But you don’t have to worry about them now.”

She blinked before she leaned her cheek against his fluffy curls. “You’re right, I don’t have to be a villain now…I can be a normal citizen if I wanted.”

He snorted, and she could just tell the brat was rolling his eyes, “Yeah, I can so imagine you working an office job.”

“Hey, I’d be amazing at an office job. Anyone who tried not fuck me over would have their internet history suddenly appear on their social media accounts. People would be to afraid to cross me. They’d probably make me a CEO.”

“You’d maim the first guy that looked down at you for being a girl.” He countered, his voice slurring a bit as he pulled his legs up.

She yawned, her eyes starting to droop. “Misogynists don’t deserve their kneecaps.” She mumbled, and the last thing she heard was a quiet snort before she surrendered to sleep.
