《When Paths Converge: A MHA Fanfic》3. Time Flies

Izuku was happier than he had ever been, Yui-nee kept her promise and she’d been coming around for over a month! The second visit she brought him a pillow and a sleeping bag and food like energy bars and bottled water. Things he didn’t have to worry about expiring too soon.
He was waiting for her now, sitting on top of a washing machine as he wrote in the teal notebook she'd bought him, she’d even grabbed a pack of pencils and pens to write with. He couldn’t help but wonder if this was what it was like to have an older sister, he was an only child and never had anyone but his mom cared so much!
He was finishing up a sketch of one of the microchips Yui-nee could make. Her Quirk was so cool! She could produce microchips from her hands, and if she attached it to a person or something electronic she could control it for five minutes. She could make three chips so far but Izuku was sure she could make more if she trained her Quirk more, and that the time she was able to control could extend more with practice.
The downside is if she tried to control too many things at once, it gave her headaches that if she ignored could make her nosebleed or faint from Quirk exhaustion. She did have to wait an hour after making the third chip before she could make any more.
Izuku twirled the pen around his fingers as his mind started to wander, remembering the first time she'd shown him her Quirk. His heart had raced as a black microchip with glowing teal wires appeared in her hand before she flicked her wrist and it hit a remote control car. Her eyes and the teal parts of her hair started to glow like neon as it started up and started to zip around on the sand.

“It’s weird with electronics, I get numbers and stuff in front of my eyes, and if I do it to a phone or computer it’s like the information on it just goes to my head. It doesn’t happen with people but their eyes glaze over and they do what I say no matter what until the time limit ends,” the glow faded as the chip on the car lost its glow and fell off.
“That would be so useful with underground heroics!” He chirped, and she had stilled, looking away from him.
“Is that what you want to do, Izu? Be a hero?” she’d asked, looking over at him.
He’d clenched his little fists, taking a breath in before he'd look back in her eyes and nodded. “Yes! I don’t have a Quirk but I want to help people! Especially since I've been out here. People get mugged, or hurt and because it’s a bad part of town, some heroes don’t bother because they won’t get enough news coverage from it.”
“Well, you won’t be a hero like All Might or Endeavor. They depend on their Quirks too much. But if you train and get the right tools, I bet you’d make a great hero, like Eraserhead, or Ragdoll. But you need to be more than a green bean,” she'd poked his side.
He'd stared up at her as his eyes flooded with tears, latching onto her like a koala and sobbing as she rubbed his back gently.
“N-no one has ever said I could be a hero!” he hiccupped.
“It’ll be hard but I have a feeling you’re stubborn enough to do the training. I can help you start building muscles and working on endurance and that stuff"
Izuku smiled wryly, pausing in his sketching as the flow of his memories turned to the labors of the last month, Izuku had started Yui's training from hell, as she dubbed it. She’d bought him weights to wear on his wrists and ankles, and given him a gradually increasing running schedule. After school she'd meet him and they’d do exercises and yoga together. She started to teach him basics to self defense: yanking thumbs back, stomping on feet, how to get out of holds, going for jabs to the throat, nose and eyes, clawing at ears and hair. Yui-nee fought dirty and made sure Izuku did too.

The tough part about being taught by Yui-nee was that she didn’t pull punches or kicks or flips. “If I take it easy on you now, it'll water down the results. You’re small, and you don’t have a Quirk to use. You need to be quick and vicious to take down people bigger than you that might pull out some freaky power. We're going to refine your reflexes so you hopefully don’t get hit, and when you do you know how to take it good enough that the damage won’t be too bad to stun you.”
So everyday he had gone to bed with new bruises and his body sore but with a smile on his face. He had a real chance to make the dream everyone laughed at become a reality.
Drawn so thoroughly into his memories, Izuku had been staring at the finished sketch for several minutes now. His focus shifting to the teal notebook resting in his hands and the bright green pen between his fingers. He let himself slip under the current of memories a final time. The first time Yui-nee had seen him writing in his notebooks had been stressful. Kacchan had a habit of destroying them when he saw him writing in them, and when he'd start mumbling to himself. So when she asked what he was doing, he'd handed it over reluctantly.
He'd waited restlessly as she read through it, her eyes widening just a little bit as her face paled. She’d finally looked up at him, “Who taught you this?”
“No one…It’s just something I do for fun. I started when I was five and kept going. Quirks are just so interesting I want to try to figured out how to make them better.” He’d looked down at the sand, kicking at a piece of metal stuck in it.
“And how to pick apart weaknesses? Izu…you need to start writing these in code if you’re going to continue. Analysis like this is like candy to villains. They’d scoop you up to make you use it against heroes. But this will be so useful if you can use it in a fight. You’ll just have to analyze in real time and focus on the weaknesses.” Her lips had curved in a gentle smile, her eyes full of warmth. “I knew you were special, Izu.”
Izuku's face warmed at the thought of the many times he'd been reduced to tears from just how kind she was. Yui-nee didn’t think his mumbling was creepy, she'd made him speak up so she could understand and bounce ideas off of him. She would stop and listen to his opinions and thoughts. She made sure he’d had at least one full, hot meal a day.
And today she said she would take him to her house because her parents were out of town and he could wash his clothes and take a bath and they could indulge in watching movies and eating mint chip ice cream from the tub! It was going to be awesome!
