He was startled awake by a mournful howl carried up to the window by the wind. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and made his way to the window. At first, he thought it was just the wind but the shutters were shut tight. Yet, still the howl sounded. He knew it couldn’t be a wolf, there were none in the whole of the island nation his father ruled. The only answer was one of the dogs he had gifted to the Eames family.
Soon, another howl joined the first. Then a third and finally a fourth joined the other 2 howls. It had to be dogs, he thought. He was latching the shutters on his window when a heartbroken wail reached his ears. It was very faint, but faint as it was he thought he recognized the voice. It couldn’t be and yet, it could.
