《Reincarnated as the companion of a God》Chapter 30: Exploring the ruins

After that night , in which at the end I ended up sleeping, despite the fact that I was quite nervous and that Luna was crushing me dont letting me to try go out.
Well, as usually happens, I was awake before them, but I didn't dare to leave until at least Luna gave signs of being awake.
As soon as we all got up, we went out of the room and there were also waiting the two guards who were with us. Drake and Rhaegal noticed the murderous look of Luna had towards me, but they didn't ask anything at the moment, but they did look a little strange at the situation.
Before we started we had a breakfast, once finished we went towards the direction of the ruins. Once there I stood in front of the stone with the engravings that I read the other day.
I tried to imbue a little of my mana on the stone, it cost a little at first I was not used to doing this kind of things. After a few seconds the floor behind the stone began to open giving access to a descent, the bottom was illuminated but I could not see the end.
[System]: (Host received mana control)
[Kaiba]: (What can I do with it?)
[System]: (Apart from being able to imbue some materials with your own elements, you can also create other types of elements less efficiently.)
[Kaiba]: (Interesting ..) I was getting a little lost in my thoughts but was interrupted by Drake.
[Drake]: "Why have you just stood there staring at nothing Kaiba?"
[Kaiba]: "For nothing, if nobody has anything to say let's start going down."
We all started down the stairs, as well as we could since these were small enough for that reason it was difficult put our paws well on them, so you could see 6 dragons a little unbalanced trying to go down , although the worst part was taken by the guards they were bigger than us.
As soon as we started to go down, on the walls you could see like a kind of stones attached by an iron to the walls that lit up the place a bit. Although these stones might resemble the ones we saw in the dungeon earlier, these were white, and each one was shaped like a sphere.
After about 5 minutes going down stairs that seemed to have no end we reached its end, we followed a corridor which led to a huge room, but the ones that received us when we got there were the corpses of several dragonborns lying on the ground, some had mutilated body parts and blood spilled all over the place.

[Agnus]: "Be Careful everyone, something is coming!"
When Agnus warned us, my presence detection ability shot up, there were about 30 enemies, close to us and it was not until they were too close that I could detect them.
Giant ant-shaped insects appeared from the darkness of the room, but they were the size of a person.
A wall of lightning rose in front of us instantly killing 20 of the ants.
In the background you could hear more of those giant insects coming towards us, making noise hitting their jaws.
Drake and Agnus started burning all the approaching insects, Stannor began to move very quickly, slicing into pieces each ant that tried to get close. It was hard for me to see where he was moving at such speed.
While I, Luna and Rhaegal began to protect the remaining flank, every ant that was approaching was cut by my claws and Luna's, although she had some problems before such a quantity, I did not have to worry since at the moment she looked in troubles, she launched a ray of light that ends up burning every ant in its path.
It seemed that they had no end, they were coming one after the other and I kept receiving presence detection information that more were still coming, if this got too long we were going to have problems.
[Kaiba]: (Come on Kaiba think, there must be some solution to this.)
I Kept thinking of a plan as we continued, killing our attackers. Then I realized one thing, the ants came from a common point, thanks to the fact that at some point they stopped taking care of the sigil that somehow avoided my ability, I could detect where a large agglomeration of those ants came from.
[Kaiba]: "We all have to move to our right, if I'm right they are all coming from that direction, if we manage to block their entrance we should be fine."
[Stannor]: "Good idea, I hope you're right, let's go there."
We all started moving towards that direction, in order to move further I used a little of my mana reserves in a spell with my Ice control, throwing some big balls of ice that devastated all the ants that were in the direction we wanted go, while Stannor tore apart the surviving ants easily breaking through.
After a few minutes of our fight, along with my ice balls and the streams of fire from Agnus and Drake we made our way, once there you could see several tunnels where these ants were coming out, there was no time to lose so I launched other balls of ice towards the tunnels and I used my metal control to create some plates that would close the tunnel avoiding the exit of more giant ants.

After a few more minutes of fighting we managed to finish off all the remaining ants within the area, they were not very strong but they make up for it with all those numbers.
[System]: (The host has risen 14 levels.)
[Kaiba]: (Oh at least they gave a good amount of experience.)
They all collapsed to the ground after all the ants were defeated.
[Kaiba]: "Okay, we should continue a little longer since I don't want to stay here any longer than necessary, it seems that we have already found the groups that disappeared, so we will go a little more to see if someone got out of this alive."
We went through the corridors, along the way we found several rooms but these were empty, it is as if they had left this place a long time ago, leaving nothing behind.
Well, that's what I thought until we got to a room different from the others, this one was much better lit and there was something in the middle shining.
We went closer to the room, until I entered, at that moment a kind of barrier was created in the entrance that repelled the others.
[Kaiba]: "But what ...!"
On the pedestal a purple cube rose, and began to shine until a flash came out of the cube. Blinded by the flash I could not see what have hit me, since I felt pain in the chest as if something had pierced me, a few seconds later I lost consciousness.
I don't know how much time has passed since that, I ended up getting a great headache, the pain I felt before in my chest was not there and it didn't seem damaged by anything.

[Kaiba]: (But what's going on!)
I looked back and saw everyone on the ground without moving, although they seemed to be fine I could still see how they breathed.
It seems that the barrier also disappeared at the time of the flash and the entire previously illuminated room lost much of its brightness just the necessary light to see something around me.
I went to try to wake up Rhaegal that it was in front of me, but before I could do it I started to feel like my head was going to explode.
[Kaiba]: (System is happening!)
...
[Kaiba]: (No answer ...)
The pain was intensifying more and more, so before something happened to me again I went to try to wake them all up, but again it didn't give me time and I felt pangs of pain all over my body, instinctively I roared with pain.
That woke up at least the two guards, while I fell to the ground because the pain I felt throughout my body intensified even more.
For the last time I tried to make the system work to see what was happening to me but nothing, I could not see my own state, from the pain I ended up losing consciousness, the last thing I saw is how Agnus approached to me and started dragging me out of this place.
I know well that this episode is very short, but it was enough to upload something while I continue. This delay was due to the fact that I was without a PC for a few days, in addition to the fact that when they brought me the new parts, they failed, so I was even longer without a PC until the new parts were brought to me, but I'm back and I have some idea than another to continue so soon there should be more.

Despite completing a holy mission from the Goddess of Mercy, obtaining a holy Relic, and escaping from demon-infested ruins, Father Anscham is in greater peril than ever before. Ravaged in mind, body, and soul, the solace he begs to receive from the Church of Flesh is impeded by a cruel lesson: the ramifications of a life spent sacrificing everything one has for others. See through the harrowing eyes of a man at his wit's end; through a dark fantasy tale of horror, hope, and desperation. Search for the cure. Conquer your personal demons. Welcome to Catalyst! As this is an archive of Catalyst Quest (an interactive, collaborative story), the prompts that were included with the original run of Avowed have been stripped, and the story is presented like a traditional novel for your reading convenience. If you would like to read Catalyst in its original format or participate in current events, you can find us here, on Sufficient Velocity. This book is complete! The story will continue with Catalyst: Calunoth, just as soon as I am done revising its content for here on Royal Road.
