《Hero Status: Revoked》Arc 1 - 20 - Who Wants To Make A Deal

Kyle was defeated and sulked into the first class. His confidence from the other day was now gone, and all he had to look forward to was Ms. Helen.

Kyle had the note from Mr. Reese, so he would give it to Mrs. Skorva and hope she would not bother him. Mrs. Skorva seemed like a nice woman, she talked about how much she enjoyed teaching and how she would plan each and every day to be a fun filled lesson.

Kyle took his seat and looked over at Beth who was already sat down when he got there.

"School's stupid" and then he put his head down.

"...yeah." Beth did not look up, but she said that.

'Well, that's enough friends for now.' The 5 year old girls could not appreciate the hundreds of lines and methods Kyle learned from the erotic books, and even the simplest of techniques was crushed this morning.

Kyle was in it for the long-con, but it would not work out like that.

Everyone arrived that was there the other day and now it was just students and Mrs. Skorva in the classroom. Mrs. Skorva stood up from her desk and wrote 3 numbers on the board. '10' '20' '30'.

"Listen up you little brats, this is words." Mrs. Skorva was completely different from the other days. Her voice sounded like someone who had breathed in smoke from a fire for dozens of years and for some unknown reason was angry with the group of children.

'Whoa, Mrs. Skorva is a bitch!' Kyle was surprised at the change in attitude from the other day.

"You are probably wondering what these symbols are. Well, this one is called the number one. The symbol next to it is the number zero. I want everyone to put their fingers in the air." Mrs. Skorva pointed to the board and said the names of the numbers.

'Does this bitch think we can't count?' Kyle was confused at the reasoning, and he just kept his head on the desk.

"These two numbers next to each other make 10, which is the number of fingers you have. I'm sure you already know this, but 10 is also the number of paddles you receive if you get for not looking forward."

'Wait, where did paddles come in?' Mrs. Skorva acted like a nice and pleasant person the other day, and that image was being ruined today.

"This number is a two." Mrs. Skorva pointed to the '2' in the second set of numbers. "When put next to the zero it makes twenty. Anyone says anything out of line and it's 20 paddles."

'She wouldn't... there would be bruises and such.' There was no way for this to happen. Mrs. Skorva would be caught and removed as a teacher. It just couldn't happen.

"And this number is the 3. Next to the 0 it makes 30 and it is how many paddles you get for insulting this class."

The children in the room were shocked. They knew what paddles were, and they were the worst thing in the world. Even worse than vegetables, paddles were given out right after a fun thing was done, and it could happen at any point in the day. The other students were terrified.

"And it looks like we have two in the back who would like to demonstration." Mrs. Skorva looked in the back of the room and Kyle and Beth, and then she grabbed the long wooden stick from the board. It was at least 3 feet long and had a hole in the end that she did not grab.

'Oh shit, she mean me...' Kyle quickly thought of a way to get out of this, and he drove his hand into his pocket.

"I already know how to read and write, and so I would like to take more math classes instead. I got a note from Mr. Reese at the library that I frequently visit." Kyle pulled the note from his pocket and presented it to Mrs. Skorva.

"Huh, let met read that..." Mrs. Skorva took the note and looked over it.

She then ripped it in half.

"It doesn't matter what your note says!" Mrs. Skorva threw the paper on the ground and picked up the stick.

*Whopam!*

Mrs. Skorva brought the hurt down on Kyle. His 5 year old body was unable to take it, not to mention his ki pathways were damaged and would take years to fix. Kyle had trained his body for 2 years, but it was not enough to completely block out the paddles.

"That's 10 for not looking forward-"

*Whopam*

"-20 for speaking out of line-"

*Whopam*

"-and 30 for insulting the class."

*Whopman* *Whopman* *Whopman* *Whopman* *Whopman*

The paddles did not stop until 60 had been done. Kyle was hurting, but he could cast his spells on himself to stop the pain. Mrs. Skorva finished and went back to the front of the classroom.

"Old hag." Kyle said under his breath, he was sure only him and Beth would be able to hear. Mrs. Skorva had forgotten about Beth, and did not give her any paddles.

"What was that? Speaking out of line and insulting the class, 50 paddles!" Mrs. Skorva quickly turned around and looked at Kyle with her evil eyes.

'Ah, god dammit.'

Kyle was able to get through words class without the addition of further paddles, and even Beth was scared into looking forward. The 10 minute break was all Kyle needed to apply healing magic and make the pain go away, but he did not know how he was going to get through another 3 years of this.

"Gosh, he got over 100 paddles."

"What an idiot."

"Let's not be friends with him."

"Yeah, he'll make us get paddles too."

The children in the classroom were talking like Kyle was someone to be avoided, and Kyle could not help but apologize to Elena in his head. He made some friend and alienated himself from the rest of his class.

"Hey, are you alright?" A quite voice beside him asked. Kyle had his head on his desk and looked over at Beth who was looking at him.

"Yeah I'm fine. What about you? You have your head down but she didn't give you any paddles." Kyle was upset that he got over 100 paddles and nobody else got any.

"I guess the old hag forgot about me while paddling you." Beth looked forward and rested her chin on her arm on the desk.

"Lucky you." Kyle did the same thing and waited for history class to start.

"Welcome to the second day students. For our first lesson, I am going to tell you the story about the 4 heroes and the traitor. In the zero year of our empire, there was a terrible war with the demon kingdom to the west, the lands which we currently live in."

'Wait, Thornberry is in demon territory? But what about the dead lands?' Kyle had seen outside the town before and it looked like normal land within the human kingdom. It was strange for the dead lands to disappear because they held many dangerous monsters in them.

"In the human kingdom's capital of Kingdomia, the four heroes Akira, Feng, Kirito, and Asura, along with a 5th man, joined together to follow the ancient Legion of Holy Swords into the demon kingdom."

'I'm only known as 'the 5th man'? Nobody knows who I was!' Kyle was a little angry at what happened, but with the new ability he could put it behind him.

"The four heroes and the man traveled with the ancient Legion of Holy Swords to take back lands held by the demonic armies and were eventually able to return the boarders to where they used to be. With the humans now making a comeback against the demons, the 5th man suggested that the heroes quickly go to the demon king's palace and defeat him to end the war quickly."

'No I didn't, it was a team decision. We would all be old men by the time we got there at the rate we were going.' They were small details, but like the story Kathy told him, most things were correct.

"So the heroes and the 5th man went to the demon king's palace, but that was when the 5th man betrayed the heroes."

'No I didn't.' Kyle still got angry when he heard this.

"The 5th man had contacted the demon king and informed him about his plan to trap the heroes inside the demon king's palace. Hordes of demons surrounded the heroes and the demon king accepted the 5th man into his ranks."

'No! That's completely wrong!' Kyle did not remember exactly what was said the last time he heard the story, but it was wrong both times. He did not betray his friends, there were no hordes of demons, humans can't even speak demon language, so cooperating with them was impossible.

"Even with the betrayal from the 5th man, the heroes were still able to defeat the demon king and his hordes of demons."

There was a wave of refreshed reactions from the children, as if it was a fascinating story.

"When the ancient Legion of Holy Swords reached the demon king's palace, they discovered the reminiscence of the battle, they named it the Obsidian City for the way the ground had been turned into a black glass-like rock."

'What? That doesn't match the description of the demon king's palace at all... it was gray and green, and the surrounding buildings were normal colored.' Kyle was stupefied. He could reason the rest with him being called a traitor, but the Obsidian City was too strange. Kyle knew what obsidian was, but the demon capital did not resemble it at all.

The rest of the class was talking about some policies made after the war, and nothing else was said about the heroes.

The class ended and lunch started, but Kyle had no lunch so he just sat there. Kyle looked over at Beth's lunch and it was a mix of vegetables and an apple.

"Do you want some?" Beth saw that Kyle had no lunch, and felt bad that he got over 100 paddles and she got nothing, so she offered him some of her lunch.

'Is this an event?' Kyle looked over at the lunch, and it looked great. Just to have something that was not soup would be a treat.

"Yeah, thanks." Kyle smiled and Beth gave him a half cob of corn. Kyle took the corn and eat it.

The rush of corn kernels bursting as he bit down of them filled his mouth with wonderful flavor. Waves upon waves of yellow mush entered Kyle's stomach from the corn, and after a few minutes it was gone.

"That was really good Beth." Kyle said as he wiped his lips.

"It's just corn, and how do you know my name?" Beth was a little confused.

"The introductions yesterday remember?"

"Oh yeah, right." Beth was not paying attention the other day, so she forgot about the introductions.

"Well, my name is Kyle."

"You already know my name."

"Yeah."

"Do you really know how to read and write?" There was a little pause and then Beth spoke up. She questioned Kyle's ability to do what he said he could.

"Yeah, I used to go to the library every other day and read books." It might have sounded like Kyle was boasting, but he was. He wanted to make himself sound cool.

"Wow, I want to be able to read books, but I don't want to learn reading from the old hag." Beth had an upset expression when she said old hag, the same words Kyle used to earn 50 paddles.

"Then how will you learn reading?" If Beth did not already know words, then her parents did not teach her, and if she did not want to learn from the school, there were not many other options.

"My sister said she would teach me." Beth had a sister that she liked very much.

"How old is your sister?" This was important. If the sister was below 20, they probably wouldn't be a good teacher.

"She's 9, but she is real smart."

'That's... too young to work out.' Beth's sister would not be able to teach her.

"Did you try saying she was your private instructor and you wouldn't need to come to school?" It was far fetched, but Beth might have been angry because it did not work out like that.

"Yeah, but she went to the knight academy last year." This was the real reason Beth was upset about school. Her favorite sibling had left her to go to some school far away.

"Well, how about we made a trade?" Kyle was smirking on the inside. Not only would he be passing an event, this was the necessary setup for one of the most powerful archetypes.

"What kind of trade?" Beth did not know why Kyle could give her, or what she could give him.

"I can teach you how to read and write, and you can make lunch for the both of us." Kyle had taught orphans how to use spells to make money, so teaching how to read would be similar.

"My mom makes my lunches, but I can ask her to make more." The trade would be a little one sided, but as long as Beth's mother agreed, Kyle would be teaching her how to read and write, and she would be providing him food that isn't soup.

Ms. Helen came in after that and lunch ended. Within a few minutes, Beth had her head on the desk and Kyle could not take his eyes away.

At the end of the school day, Kyle had no idea what Ms. Helen said.
