《Hero Status: Revoked》Arc 1 - 19 - We Don't Need no Education

Kyle starred at Ms. Helen profusely until the 3rd class was over. It was like he was back in the black space, nothing else around him moved on only one thing existed, thought this time instead of a malicious force it was a benevolent being.

"Well, this is the last class for today, so I hope to see all of you tomorrow!" Ms. Helen said in her cheerful teacher voice, her perfect proportions moving in just the right way, her waist length dark brown hair swaying a slight amount, and the blue eyes under thin rimmed glasses sparkling.

'You will see me tomorrow!' Kyle could not help but swoon in his seat as Ms. Helen left the room. Once she left though, Kyle came back to reality.

"So Kyle, you really like math huh?" Elena was standing next to Kyle now as she looked at his glossed over face. Kyle shook his head and looked at Elena while trying to think of a response.

"I guess it's fine. If I really have to go, It might not be too bad." Kyle did not want words, and he didn't want history that much, but he needed math.

"That's the spirit Kyle, I just know you will be a great scholar and make some powerful magic." Elena was happy now that Kyle was more enthusiastic about school. Elena could not be more wrong about why he was so enthusiastic though.

"So are we going home?" It was 3:40 when the last class ended, and there was only a few hours left to do anything in the day.

"We are near the market, so I just want to make a quick stop there to get something." The 3rd district that the school is located in is on the same street that the market is located in, inside the clearing.

"Alright... I'm going to the library to tell Mr. Reese about school." Kyle had a plan to get out of words and maybe even history.

"Okay, just wait for me outside of the clearing when you are done."

Kyle left the school and walked a short distance to the library with Elena. They parted ways at the library and Kyle went inside. Nothing had changed in the last 2 years, but Kyle was almost finished with the training manuals in the second floor and would need to use the ones on the first floor soon.

"Hello Mr. Reese." Kyle walked into the library and saw Mr. Reese at his desk like always. Kyle was a little taller now and could just barely make out the title of the book. 'Ranches and Raunchiness'

"Hello Kyle." Mr. Reese looked up from his book and put it down on the desk with the page still open.

"Mr. Reese, you were a teacher in another town right?" Kyle and Mr. Reese had spoke often in the past, and one of the things he had heard from Mr. Reese was about his time as a words teacher in Drunkroot town.

"That's right. I did that for many years before coming here." Mr. Reese fondly remember his time as a teacher, but he left and became the library operator for it's certain... benefits.

"Then, how can I make it so that I don't have to go to words lessons at school?" This was Kyle's plan. He knew Mr. Reese taught words, so if Mr. Reese ever let a student not take his class, he would be able to tell Kyle.

"Oh, is it already that time? Well, there really isn't any way out of it." Mr. Reese had never let a student out from learning words though. It was not 'Mandatory Education' for no reason.

"There has to be some way." Kyle really did not want to go to words class, the old hag Skorva was not even worth a passing tap.

"Seriously, without a life threatening illness or some major event, or having a private instructor, attendance is mandatory." Mr. Reese knew the system, and it was just as the letter Elena was hiding from Kyle said.

Elena did not let Kyle see the letter because she was afraid he would do something and become unconscious for many days like he had in the past.

"But you're a respected person in the school right? Can't you write a note to the words teacher and tell her i'm a good reader and writer?" Kyle was hoping on a long shot, it probably wouldn't work.

"Kyle, I've never seen you write before." Kyle came to the library to read books, not to write. It made sense that Mr. Reese had not seen that skill of his.

"Well I can, and I don't need school for it." Kyle was in fact a good writer. He was not very good at it when he was adventuring, but Kirito taught him and the other heroes how to write while they traveled with the Legion of Holy Swords.

"Well, I can write the note, but I don't think it is going to help you." Mr. Reese only caved because Kyle was able to read at such a young age. It was really unprecedented for such a young child to be able to read, writing would not be that much of a stretch either.

"Thank you Mr. Reese, I just don't see how relearning words will help me." Kyle was truly grateful for what Mr. Reese was doing. Even if it only had the smallest chance of working, he might be able to take another math class and see Ms. Helen for twice as long.

"Sometimes you need to go work on your basics to prepare for the more advance things like magic books." Mr. Reese got out a paper from inside the desk and then a pen from a tray on the top of the desk. He dipped the pen into some ink and started writing the note.

'Bullshit, we read magic books when we were 5.' Kyle was angry and confused. Even though this new time had more education facilities, the people learned things at a slower rate. It was like a deliberate sabotage to society.

Kyle left the library and met his mother at the corner of the crescent and the street to the 2nd district. Kyle had given the 100 coins to Elena those 2 years ago and they had more of the same thing to eat. It seemed like Elena only knew how to cook one thing, and that was why Kyle spent the other 700 coins on food.

Elena had two bags with food in them when Kyle saw her, so he took a bag and they both walked home together.

It was a sunny day, but the world was dark for Kyle. In his mind, the sun had gone far away and would not return for another 21 hours 13 minutes and 45 seconds. It was simply too long, but he could not say he wanted to go to the library because he just came from there. Kyle could do nothing but wait.

"How long do I have to go to school?" Kyle wanted to know in case the last year was optional, or if after the first year parents could take their kids out. He was fine with math class, but the other two could go.

"You only have to go to school for 3 years, then you can go to the mage school in Vegaville." Elena had done a little research into the education system, and by research, she asked Fred and Kathy. Elena wanted Kyle to finish his schooling like she was unable to do because she knew it would give him a great future.

"But 3 years would really be a waste, and I don't really need to go to mage school." Kyle knew everything he needed to know from his past life, and the only use of school now would be to learn about history and Ms. Helen.

"No Kyle, you are very smart, so you have to go to mage school." In this time, public school was done ages 5 to 8, and then either mage school or knight's academy from 8 to 14.

"But what if I want to invent something?" Kyle did not know much about science, but he could probably put something together. Kyle imagined himself in a room of beautiful women and saying "Yeah, I built that".

"Invent something? The most respected scholars are mages Kyle." This society had no places for inventors though. Anyone who was interested in science and how things worked was inevitably drawn in by magic.

"I want to be a merchant." If creating a new thing was out of the question, money would be needed. Money could buy anything, even what tangerers could not reach.

"No Kyle, you will be a great mage." But being a great mage meant everything. The most powerful in combat, the most respected in a city next to the lord, being a mage was everything.

"I want lots of money." Kyle had no place for that though. He already had power, now he needed economic strength.

"Then join the Order of Wizards. They make lots of money like merchants." The Order of Wizards was the most prestigious group of mages in the empire. They received large sums of money for their magical feats.

"But I want to travel." Kyle would need two things to catch his fish. A strong pole and a large pond. His current pond was only Thornberry though, he needed to expand.

"And in search of the truth, many member of the Order of Wizards travel." It would be strange for the Order of Wizards to send someone to Thornberry, but the city of Vegaville would not be out of their interest.

"Mom, what are the Order of Wizards?" Kyle had heard of this group once before, when Elena thought they caused the huge magic display that Kyle actually caused.

"That simple Kyle. The Order of Wizards are mages who have been recognized by the descendants of the hero Akira to be exceptionally powerful. Most of them can even use 4 or 5 types of magic." The human kingdom in Kyle's first life did not have a group for powerful mages. Most worked for themselves and did not want to help the kingdom in the war. For a group of mages to gather for any reason other than taking adventurer's guild quest was very strange in his time.

"Is that a lot?" Kyle knew people did not always have 6 types of magic able to be used, but most had 2 or 3.

"It sure is. Your father and I can only use the Fire type, but there are a total of 6 types. Fire, Ice, Earth, Wind, Lightning, and Healing." Elena never went to magic school, and if not for asking Fred about magic, she would have never learned.

"That sounds stupid. I just want to make lots of money and travel." Kyle needed to get Elena off this train of thought. Joining a group of mages was the last thing he wanted to do. Him just being in a group would mean maintaining a public image, which he was not willing to do. As a hero, it was his responsibility to keep an honorable appearance, but not anymore.

"Didn't you say that you didn't want to do to school but now you can't wait to come back?" Elena was smirking at Kyle. She saw his reaction to math class and knew he wanted to come back for that.

"...yeah..." It was the truth. If Kyle could do one thing every day for the next 3 years and not be called out for it, it was look at Ms. Helen in math class.

"Then it's final. You will go to mage school." Elena made up her mind.

"Fine." Kyle had his mind made up for him.

"So how was your first day Kyle?" Fred asked Kyle as they sat at the table eating dinner. Fred and Kyle were opposite from each other, and Elena and Dave were opposite of each other. Kyle had opted for not coming by Kathy's home to pick up Dave. Claire was disappointed.

"It's stupid. Words are stupid, I can already read and write. History is stupid, I can just learn it from the library. Math is... okay I like math, but the rest is stupid." Kyle had a very clear opinion of school.

"That's my boy!" Fred chuckled and did the thumbs up and Kyle. School was not important to be a swordsman, and that is what Fred wanted from Kyle.

"No, don't talk like that or Dave will get it in his head that school is bad too." Elena was upset at the exchange of words between Fred and Kyle.

"Stupid school." Dave said while he eat his soup.

"No! School is good Dave." Elena was defeated. She was the only one in the house who believed school to be a good thing. "Kyle, even if you don't learn anything in school you can still learn how to interact with other people."

"But I interact with you, and Kathy, and Mr. Reese." Kyle knew several people now who were outside of his family. He spoke to Kathy's husband Paul every so often too.

"They don't count. I'm talking about kids your own age. Just go to school and try to make some friends, okay?"

"Sure mom." Kyle realized something.

'I have been planning too far in the future... I need to start triggering events now so I can reap the benefit in 10 years. That's right, my training wasn't just for when I get older, it's for right now!' The standard erotic novel is organized into several events which eventually lead to a big payout.

School was the perfecting hunting ground for triggering said events, and even if it would not help him now, once he became famous in the empire and came back to Thornberry, he would be rolling in it.

POV: Kyle Mercer, Thornberry 3rd district, the next day

There! The perfect chance. Elena let me go to school by myself, so it's the perfect time to try out these lines.

"Excuse me, I think you have something in your eye. Oh wait, It's just a sparkle."

*thump*

"Don't talk to me!"

Mission failure.
