《Hero Status: Revoked》Arc 1 - 04 - Magic Inside and Out

Kyle had been reborn for about 5 months before his new parents tried to make another, or at least he thought it was around 5 months because the family did not have a calendar where he could see it. With fierce determination, Kyle was able to move around a little bit, such as slowly across a flat surface. With his limited movement, though, he was still unable to climb out of the prison he was placed into at night.
"Do it harder!" Screamed Elena in the room over.
'I know it's not your fault that I can understand you, but I understand you!' Kyle thought about saying. It was still too early to start speaking, but he could probably cast some spells to help deal with the noise pollution.
'What if I trying a deaf spell...' Kyle thought as he racked his brain for the list of status spells. The spells to inflict statuses were a long lost magic, and it was retrieved by him from a certain ancient tomb long ago. Statuses such as Silence to make a foe unable to make a sound, or Deaf so that they could not hear a sound. These were useful for making the enemy unable to cast spells, and for keeping the enemy from knowing what spells were being cast against them. In this particular instance, though, the Deaf spell was not going to be used in combat, but to silence the screams of a woman in ecstasy.
"[Deaf]," Kyle said, and when he did he could feel the magic travel through his body. 'Whoa, what is this feeling?' Kyle asked himself as he looked at his arm that he used to cast the spell.
All spells were cast with the hands acting as directional controlling devices. Powerful magic came from the palm, and weaker magic came from the fingertips. Special magic could be cast in directions the hands were not facing, but the hands still needed to be used to push the mana out of the body.
Kyle cast the deaf spell a few more times into the air where it hit a wall. Status spells moved instantly through the air, and did not make a sound, but Kyle could feel each spell leaving his body. 'Is this mana?' Kyle thought to himself. He was a powerful mage in his past life, knowing every spell in the known world, but nobody could feel mana. It was just assumed to be there, and only the absence of it could be felt.

"[Paralyze] [Sleep] [Saturate] [Fatigue] [Slow] [Haste]..." Kyle spoke each spell name and it applied the status to the wall, which had no effect. Kyle was able to use his 70 or so status spells, and each time he could feel the mana going through him. Kyle was not able to use so many spells in his past life, but now it was easy for him to use all the status spells he knew.
'The mana pathway for the spells is mostly the same... can I just move the mana myself?' Kyle thought as he tried to will his mana to move inside of him. Kyle was able to move the mana, but he was unsuccessful at making any spells cause their effects. He knew this by trying the status awaken on himself.
'Damn, maybe other spells will work?' Kyle asked himself as he prepared to use a fire spell. "[Flame]," Kyle said in the dark, and suddenly a bright flame flickered on his finger. For a second, Kyle could feel the mana rush through him as he finished the chant, and then the mana turned into a tiny steam to supply the flame on his finger.
'Now I just have to make the same path...' Kyle thought as he did so, but the result was unexpected. A huge burst of flames came from Kyle's finger as he pushed the mana through him and when he suddenly let go, the tiny stream did not form.
'So mana is used in one large burst to supply the spell, and then lowered to maintain it.' Kyle determined as he thought of ways to not make his magic go out of control. At that moment, two people walking into the room wearing almost nothing.
"What was that?" Fred said as he looked around. Kyle quickly pretended to be asleep, but it was dark and he was a baby so it was not hard at all.
"It sounded like a gust of wind," Elena said, looking around the room. Fred walked in the check that the window was closed, which it was. The two stood in the doorway for a little bit and then went back to their room. Deaf had worn off of Kyle before they came into the room, but now that they were out of bed they started back of their activities from earlier.
"[Sleep]" Kyle cast on himself, and thus he slept.
The next day went on like any other. Elena making breakfast, Fred leaving. Elena was a little sore from something, but Kyle knew what it was. Kathy came over and talked to Elena about how she was having difficulty getting pregnant, and then she left after crying a little bit. Kathy was a very emotional person.

At night, Kyle tested a theory that he had. "[Gust]," Kyle said very quietly, and he tried to feel the mana. The mana was a little harder to feel than the other night, but not very noticeable.
'Great, I can still feel it.' Kyle thought as he laid down. Kyle then cycled through a few spells before discovering something very important and significant.
'All spells use the same mana...' Kyle thought. It was previously thought that each spell used different mana inside the body, but Kyle was feeling that the same kind of mana came out from him when he used different spells, and it was just his thoughts making the spell change type.
A spell chant is typically used while thinking of the outcome of the spell. When the chant for Ice Bolt was said, the mage also had to think about the moisture in the air condensing and getting frozen. With the mana manipulation that Kyle was able to perform inside this body, he was able to cast the spell without using the chant, and thereby devote his brain to thinking of the effect.
'[Gravity]' Kyle thought of the effects to a powerful earth spell and it made a chair in the corner of the room float. 'This is really amazing!' Kyle thought and he cast more spells without having to chant them first to learn the mana pathway because they were all the same.
Kyle went over 6 of the 8 types of magic he knew, skipping over the forbidden magic and status magic because he already did the status magic. Most of the spells failed, but the ones that something could be seen when it was cast he knew it worked.
POV: Kyle Mercer
There are 6 normal types of magic and 2 special types. The two special types of magic were used thousands of years before my first life and were lost until I rediscovered them. The hero Asura also knew the special magic types, but he did not explain how he knew them. Probably learned them from a tomb or a ruin of some kind.
The other 6 types are Fire, Ice, Earth, Lightning, Wind, and Healing. Fire magic is known to just about everyone but some people are able to use it better than others. Spells of the Fire-type general create a fire or make things hot.
Ice magic is the second most common, and it makes things colder or produces ice. When the ice melts, though, it does not turn into water, it just goes away.
Earth magic is most common with boys. It can form things from earth summoned in the air, and it can manipulate the ground to a certain degree. Earth magic has one legendary spell, Gravity. Only three people in the history of humanity and elven lineage have ever been able to use Gravity, and that was the creator of the spell, the hero Akira, and yours truly.
Lightning Magic is an uncommon type and considered the most powerful magic. It can produce powerful electrical discharges through the air, but it comes at a cost. Mana must be used to create a path for the lightning to travel in, or it will hit the ground. This is not the same mana control that I can use, though, and it is included in the same stage of casting a spell as when you think about the effect.
Wind Magic an uncommon type and not very useful for combat. There is a spell for creating blades from the wind, but even a wooden shield would stop them. It's easy to stop air. Wind magic is best for airing out homes and pushing sailboats. Wind magic does have a legendary spell, though, and that is Fly. Fly manipulates the wind at someone's feet and all around their body to provide acceleration in the air. Fly operates very much like Gravity in the way that is it possible to float when using it, but unlike gravity which might make anyone caught in it feel the need to vomit, Fly is easy to control. It is the least understood spell, and once again, only three people could use it. The creator, Akira, and yours truly.
Healing magic is the least common of the 6. Healing mages are considered elite just by traveling to a town without one already in it. Healing magic might even be stronger than all the other types combined because of its legendary spell, which was Resurrect. Healing magic truly had the power to cheat death, but because it was a legendary spell, only the creator, Akira, and myself could ever use it.
