《Guns in another world》Resolve XIII

Waving his hands Keith drew a crystal the size of an adult fist from his spatial ring. The crystal glowed with a multicoloured radiance, and beautiful patterns and clusters formed and scattered within it, giving the impression that the crystal contained an entire universe. As soon as the crystal appeared, the mana concentration in the room skyrocketed to frightening levels. Fionn could almost feel the liquified droplets of mana in the air by moving his hands.
"What kind of mana crystal is that?" Fionn asked, staring in wonder at the crystal in Floyd's hand.
"It's a supreme grade mana crystal," Keith said, feeling a twinge of pain in his heart.
"I thought there were only four grades of mana crystal: low, mid, high, and peak, with peak being the highest and rarest," Fionn exclaimed.
"No, there is one more, the supreme grade, which is worth more than ten billion low grade mana crystals. It is, to the best of my knowledge, the most concentrated form of mana in existence " Floyd said as he inserted the crystal into a hole on the obelisk.
ZZZZZZZZ!
As he inserted the crystal into the hole, a portal began to form. As the black portal expanded in front of Fionn, the space twisted, turned, and spiralled, bringing back memories of his expedition.
"Let's go," Keith said as he stepped into the portal after it had stabilised.
Fionn followed suit and entered the portal as well.
Somewhere in the midst of mountains and valleys.
As the space distorted, a portal formed, and Keith and Fionn stepped out of it leisurely. Fionn had a strange expression on his face as he looked around.
" Eh!? Did the teleportation fail? Why are we still here?" Fionn, perplexed, inquired.
The same humongous tower of Legacy that he had seen god knows how many times in the previous couple of days stood in front of Fionn, surrounded by the same beautiful scenery of verdant mountains and waterfalls.

"No, it succeeded," Keith replied as he began walking towards the tower.
"You sure are extravagant using teleportation for such a short distance," Fionn remarked, clicking his tongue in awe.
Keith's lips twitched in indignation as he heard Fionn's remark. Pissed, he pointed to the sky and said, "look."
Fionn looked up, following the direction of his finger. Soon after, his eyes widened with surprise, and he exclaimed "Holy sh*t! What exactly is this abomination?"
In the sky were many suns, too many to count, but what was surprising, however, was not the number of suns, but the thing bearing these suns.
A massive golden tree stood in the sky, its roots dug into the space itself, and its branches and leaves were made of pure elemental fire. Countless suns sprouted from its branches like tree fruits.
"Come in quickly. You'll have plenty of time to stare at it in the future "The voice of Oliver jolted Fionn out of his trance.
Blushing with embarrassment Fionn entered the tower quickly. Inside, he was surprised once more by what he saw: creatures of various races busy at work, some sorting documents, some blacksmithing weapons, some engraving runes, and some even brewing potions.
Beastmen, Goblins, Gnomes, and Halflings are among the less surprising races, but it was the presence of Vampires, Imps, Fiends, and other demonic creatures that surprised Fionn.
The inside of the tower was quite different; unlike Fionn's imagination, it appeared to be a large, cluttered workshop rather than a suitable place to study magic.
"This way," Keith said, motioning towards a stairway.
"This place looked more like a military outpost than an academy," Fionn observed as he trailed Keith.
"Actually, this is a military outpost," Keith responded with a grin.
Fionn raised an eyebrow in reaction to Keith's response, but just as he was about to reply, he felt the Abyss fire in his body become agitated, and a sudden desire of greed began to cloud his mind. "What's going on?" exclaimed Fionn as he shook his head; he could feel the air around him getting hotter and hotter as the Abyss fire inside his body grew out of control. A violent and strong desire to destroy and devour begins to take over his sanity, and his eyes begin to glow purple like those of a demon.

Keith rushed to Fionn's side after noticing his condition and pressed his fingers against Fionn's temples. Soon, a soothing silver radiance enveloped Fionn's body, and his agitation subsided noticeably.
"What just happened to me?" Fionn asked, gasping for air, regaining his mental clarity.
"It's because of her," Keith replied, pointing to a girl standing a few stairs above them.

Witchbone: The Goblins Winter
Themes found in these stories include friendship, found family, defying negative expectations, trying to figure out how to be a force for good in your corner of the world, doing heroic things even if you don't look or feel like a hero, and that being different isn't necessarily fatal. Summary: A spell of arctic weather. A mysterious death. The reading of a will. Strange tracks in the snow. Eleven-year-old Danny Hallow accepts his life, such as it is. His father is dead, his mother left years ago. His three Keepers are the only people aware of Danny's erratic and not-very-impressive psychic abilities. He has no friends, he's been suspended from school, and he's responsible for the life of a small brown bat that's ended up in his care. When Danny's estranged Uncle Enoch dies under mysterious circumstances, he and his Keepers are called to the town of Eddystone, New Hampshire for the reading of the man's will. Traveling four hundred miles from his dreaded hometown to attend, Danny is happy to get away, possibly inherit something interesting- and maybe find out more about his family while he's there. Arriving at the crumbling family estate of Gnomewood Home, he finds it to be hauntingly familiar, a bit creepy, oddly comforting, and possibly alive. When his uncle's will reveals that he's inherited Gnomewood and everything in it, he's determined to stay and make a happier life for himself in Eddystone, somehow. But at Gnomewood, he finds more questions than answers to his family's secrets. Disturbing old memories come to him in dreams. His psychic abilities begin to grow stronger, and as a result he becomes aware that a horde of cryptic creatures are plaguing the town of Eddystone, seemingly drawn out by the spell of an unusually frigid February. Toothy little goblins that are sneaky, vicious, and hungry. Goblins that take a particular interest in Danny. Will the emergence of the alien, and potentially dangerous, power he's inherited from his peculiar family tree help Danny survive the goblin infested winter, inadvisable attempts to befriend a terrifying boy with silver eyes, and a new school? Only if he learns to control them before they put him and everyone around him in danger. Before they convince some people that he should never have been allowed to exist at all. Before he becomes just another twisted tale in his family's bizarre history, kept hidden for centuries within the ivy-covered walls of Gnomewood Home.
