In a dark alley of the city.
Fionn quietly popped his head out of the secluded alley, looked left and right, and sighed with relief when he saw no trace of the damn fatty "Finally got away from that scurge. That fatty chased me around the entire city for about an hour. It's one thing if he's physically strong, with skin like steel, but his speed is impressive as well."
"Sigh, my plan of racking up tonnes of points is now a shambles, why didn't I buy a good relic back in Plesas city?" lamented Fionn, frustrated by the current situation.
Sitting on the ground near the alley's entrance, he pulled out his identity token from his pocket and discovered that his points had increased to 1095. "I'm not sure if they're a lot or a little," Fionn wondered.
"Hey Fionn, what are you doing here looking all sneaky and bitter?" Suddenly, Fionn heard the voice of a familiar chatterbox, as well as the sound of footsteps, coming from the other end of the alley.
Turning around, he noticed Theodore approaching him from the other end of the alley, walking leisurely.
"Nothing, just hiding from a fatty," Fionn replied, adding, "You look quite relaxed, have you accumulated a lot of points?"
"No, I've drawn the ire of a large group by eliminating one of their members, so I'm just laying low for the time being." Theodore replied, sitting beside Fionn on the ground.
"So, who's that fatty you were talking about?" Theodore inquired.
"Oh, he's a strong participant in this examination, especially physically; I'm not sure what kind of avatar he has, but if he has a powerful one, he'll be one of the strongest in the entrance exam." Fionn responded calmly.

"Is that so, I'd love to spar with him," said Theodore, intrigued, a competitive look on his face.
" Have a battle when you can use your avatar, you'll be crushed in a battle of brute strength," Fionn chuckled.
"Geez, you don't have to be that blunt," Theodore chuckled, adding, "I thought this sector didn't have many competent examinees, but what you said got me excited now."
"What do you mean sector?" Fionn inquired.
"You don't know about the sectors of the Gift city?" Theodore questioned, surprised.
"Nope, tell me," Fionn inquired.
"See, Gift City is not what it appears to be from the outside; it is actually very large, with 18 sectors, each of which can function as a small city with all the amenities one could want. The city is encapsulated in a spatial compression array, so when someone enters through the main entrance, they can only access a single sector of the city. According to Legacy's director, they built the city in this manner to better secure the citizens of Gift city." Theodore elaborated.
"Does that mean where we are now is just one of Gift City's sectors?" Fionn inquired.
"Correct, to be more specific, Sector 6." Theodore responded.
"How do you know that?" Fionn inquired.
"Look there," Theodore said, pointing to the city's high tower, on top of which the number 6 was carved.
"I get it now," Fionn said, adding "So, have the examees also been sent to other sectors?"
"Of course, otherwise, don't you think the examinees are too few, and not many of them are very talented?" Theodore responded.
Hearing what Theodore said Fionn nodded, a understanding look in his eyes.
"Are you planning to hide here for the next two days from that fatty, or do you have revenge plans?" Theodore inquired.

"I'd need a relic otherwise seeking revenge with my brute strength is just plain stupidity, but hiding for two days isn't in the cards either, so I'll try stealing someone's relic." Fionn replied with a wicked smile, adding, "what's your plan?"
"Oh, I'll just lay low for a while and keep collecting points slowly, it's a shame we can't use magic or our avatars, otherwise I would have gone on a nice rampage," Theodore replied bitterly.
"What kind of bloodline do you have?" Fionn inquired, adding, "you could choose not to tell me if you don't want to."
"I can tell you it's not a secret in any case," Theodore said, adding, "but don't be too surprised," deliberately building suspence.

The Way Ahead
What do you do when you don't fit in? Edwin never really felt many connections to other people, but as a physics student, that was fine. He didn't really need it, anyway. He was content to peel back the mysteries of the universe... not that there were many left to find. Modern-day research was just too well-established, too well-trodden for any single enthusiast to make any significant headway. But that doesn't apply to other worlds. Not ones where magic and Skills run rampant, where well-defined roles and Classes dominate much of society with little room for novel experimentation from its residents. That kind of world would be perfect for an overeager, newly-minted Alchemist to make his mark. Things are never that easy, though. The Way Ahead is a very slice-of-life story following the story of someone trying to find his place in a world that doesn't know what to do with him. Expect lots of science, lots of alchemy, a few sarcastic quips by the System, and lots of exploration involving the world, self-discovery, and above all, science. After all, further research is always required. Updates every other day at 9 AM PST. Congratulations! For writing a story during the month of November, you have unlocked the Royal Road Writathon Participant path!

If they can kill the monster that calls Deldynne home before the other teams do, he'll soar to new heights as apprentice to the leader of the Hunter’s Guild.
