《Netherwyrm god》34--- The elemental sage

Alwyn had just appeared in the Nether Kingdom that a few soul senses were already sizing him up.
“I am the new supervisor. Pleased to meet you all.” Alwyn sent his soul sense to meet the other soul senses. He got a few congratulatory messages.
He then used his soul sense to encompass the world to know exactly how big his Nether Kingdom was.
“ Three thousand and sixty-seven Everworlds. Not bad.”
He then looked at his ring and sent his soul sense inside.
He got a message: ‘Activate the space lock.’
He answered by a simple ‘Yes’ and the space lock encompassed the whole Nether kingdom. He could now move as he wished.
Since he could not construct anything yet as he had yet to use origin energy on his own, he decided to look for the nearest inhabited world.
On his way, he remembered what Alistair had told him about the treasure key.
He stopped and accessed the market to see if he could buy something that could prove useful rather than endangering other living beings by living close to them. He also needed a quiet place for himself.
The market contained anything from lavish clothing, galaxies and even Everworlds for purchase.
He bought an Everworld for sixty thousand origin crystals leaving him with only twenty thousand crystals.
He found a good place and teleported the Everworld over. It was to be the capital Everworld in which everything would he would live and conduct his experiences and receive his clients.
He also planned for a school to be built inside. With his experience as an elemental, he understood the elements better than anyone.
He named the Everworld the Wyrm’s lair.
He also bought a lavish planet that would be his main home for a thousand origin crystals.
He named the planet the Nether planet.
After settling into his new home, he sent his soul sense back into the ring. He wanted to learn about the power system of the Darkstar worlds.
He found that the humans were born without any origin energy whatsoever. They had to gain it from the treasure spirit that could harvest it.
In an effort to nurture a capable army the treasure spirit was not stingy with the origin energy. Anyone had access to it.
Once the origin energy was acquired, they trained with it by absorbing it, storing it inside their bodies.
It made their bodies stronger but to be able to move their powerful bodies they needed powerful souls.
To gain a powerful soul you had to comprehend elements by gaining insights about its intricacies and inner workings. The process made your soul stronger.
As they gradually gained mastery over an element they could summon it with the origin energy stored inside their bodies as a price.
Once a body was used to the input of origin energy, at a higher level, it was possible to harvest it on your own but only the treasure spirit, Udumu, could accomplish such a feat.
There were two main roads to choose from in the beginning but they converged as you grew stronger.
There were origin warriors and origin casters.
Origin warriors focused on making their bodies stronger at all costs.
Origin casters were individuals well versed in comprehending elements and made their bodies stronger just to acquire an origin core to be able to use their elements.
In the later stages, origin warriors found themselves obligated to thread the other path as the requirement for the body and the soul to be in sync with each other became a need that they could not ignore. For that to happen, immortality had been reached long ago and they found themselves meditating and trying to comprehend elements forever, sometimes without advancing much in their insights.

Origin casters, on the other hand, would find themselves in need of a bigger pool of origin energy to use in combat. They had to thread the path of origin warriors which was the easiest, but sooner or later they all arrived at the same thresholds as the elements were not that easy to comprehend. Of course, the origin casters had the upper hand in that war of comprehension of elements.
That common threshold was commonly called the Origin trial.
It was characterized by the ability to cast the element you gained insight into instantly. Of course, it was not the same as elementals who could do it while they were still mortal with their mana or divine energy. The power source used was the origin energy.
Reaching the Origin trial was a rite of passage for many and it was also the main requirement to enter the army of the treasure spirit.
Edward could be considered to have reached the Origin trial.
The next realm after the origin trial was called the origin soul in which the soul influenced the element you wielded. The element tried to be in sync with your personality traits and followed your mood and needs for better control. Alistair, for example, was at this level.
After the origin soul was the origin elemental, a state in which the element and the soul became like one. In that state, you commanded the element as you commanded yourself. The leader of the Darkstar company was rumored to have reached this stage.
As for the stage that came after, it concerned the body. It was called the origin body or origin god. A state in which, the body had absorbed enough origin energy and could regenerate it or amass it from the surroundings. The soul elemental would also have an unlimited amount of origin energy at his disposal.
The treasure spirits and origin gods had reached this realm.
An object that reached the origin god realm could generate its own soul. They then called it a treasure spirit.
The treasure spirit could choose to gain insights into any kind of element it wanted just like the humans.
Treasure spirits generally came from masters who had an origin body but wanted a weapon. They then refined treasure spirits whether out of boredom or necessity.
In the beginning, treasure spirits would need to be carried around as objects but as they gained their own insights they grew stronger in soul. As they reached the origin elemental stage they could rebel against their masters or stay around but most chose to leave and adventure on their own.
As for human or other lifeforms, they needed an already existing origin body to supply them with origin energy.
It was easy to create an origin god be it man or object but a soul that could move it, that was hard work.
As Alwyn finished reading, he had already started devising many plans to rid himself of the Netherwyrm bloodline.
His first plan was to let his soul become as strong as possible through the use of the sword.
His second plan was to transform his body into an origin body becoming an origin god.
His third plan was to let his white sword drink as much origin energy to transform it into a treasure spirit. With the sword being an element itself, it would automatically become a treasure spirit without having to gain insights into anything.
The problem would be the new soul of the sword, he did not want a loose cannon.

His fourth plan was to find a way to split his soul and fuse it with the sword before it became a treasure spirit.
If it succeeded, he would be able to create a true clone that was connected with him through his soul.
His fifth and last plan was to find a way to recreate a human body for himself. For that, he was planning on finding a magic or an art that could copy a human body. He wanted to go back in time and kidnap himself before he acquired the nethewyrm bloodline, copy the body from back then, return the original at the same time he took it and then destroy the soul of the copy so he could possess it with a split portion of his current soul.
For all that to happen he needed three things: Origin crystals, a soul splitting art, an art that could replicate a body.
His soul augmenting service he was going to sell, was not enough to let him gain the needed origin crystals.
His school had to also open.
A few days later, Edward had come for a visit.
“A school as well?” Asked a dumbstruck Edward.
“Yes. I happen to be knowledgeable on elements. I am sure that many will benefit from it.” Alwyn said.
“Alright. It’s been a few days that you arrived and the crowd is already lining up in front of your planet, why not start by them.” Edward suggested.
“I thought of it but I feel like I would be losing more origin crystals. They can just repeat what I said to others. I need a wider audience.” Alwyn expressed his thoughts.
“I have an idea. Why not give a free lecture and a free consultation for one week, let them see the results and let the word travel? It will be even easier after. Look at how many arrived in the first few days.” Edward seemed confident that it would work.
“Let’s try it then.” Alwyn said as he sent a soul transmission that there was going to be an announcement.
He had the crowd of several hundreds of thousands listen to his lecture.
It took only an hour to see a few showing signs of having breakthroughs.
As he expounded on the intricacies of the most used elements, thousands who practiced those elements had breakthroughs at the same time.
It caused a huge clamor.
Many even dared to organize the crowd into voting for the next element that was to be explained and it worked.
Unfortunately, it did not last long and Alwyn had managed to refrain himself all the way. He had left out the key points which irritated some that understood his scheme. They could not complain though, they had gained too much.
“I will leave my full insights on the market. Go get them there and I will also give free lectures from time to time. For now... ” He grasped his space-time rending sword and let the white light wash over the present crowd.
A huge sea of white energy could be seen enshrouding a sea of people.
Minutes later, the crowd started waking up.
Alwyn said: “You do not know it yet but the more you remember from your visions, the more insights you can gain. It becomes easier to remember as your soul becomes stronger. Even gaining proper comprehension of an element requires a stronger soul.”
“For the next six days, I will give an hour long lecture and a single soul upgrade for free.”
With that said he disappeared inside his planet under their gazes.
“Let’s hope it works.” Alwyn said to Edwards.
“Oh...it will.” Edward said before he excused himself and left.
The next day the crowd had tripled.
The last day, there were a hundred times more people than the first day.
The insights that Alwyn had sold on the market were being bought every day even if the buyers still preferred to hear him directly.
His reputation as the ‘Elemental sage’ had started to circulate.
“I will keep giving these lectures for free every day.” Said, Alwyn.
He planned to use the free lectures as a way to attract even more customers. They would only pay for the soul upgrade and the insights on the market.
His audience was comprised of those at the origin trial realm at first as they desperately needed to gain insights.
In the last days, some of the weakest that could not thread the void sought help to get to the Nether planet.
The strongest still remained skeptic at first but also started showing up. Many of the origin soul realm could not resist the temptation after seeing the result of the others.
Practitioners at the origin trial were not many and just numbered a few millions., the origin soul practitioners were in the tens of thousands and in all of the Darkstar worlds, the only one at the origin elemental realm was the leader of the Darkstar company. Reaching a higher realm, especially the origin elemental was difficult.
The rest of the humans were still struggling to comprehend elements and had yet to reach the origin trial realm.
Alwyn’s insights made them stronger and his soul upgrades even more.
New origin trial realm practitioners appeared thanks to the booklets he sold in the market.
As for Alwyn, he remained he counted the growing numbers of students with glee.
After a few seven days, his services were sought after by all before he started putting a price on soul upgrades.
He even asked for the lowest price possible. One origin crystal per soul upgrade and one soul crystal per booklet of insights.
With such a price he could offer his services to everybody without asking for much.
There was no real effort on his part as he had been an elemental for a long time. He had come to know each element on a personal level as he used to have a multi-elemental soul. All the elements that Devinn had fused into him had later polarized giving him more understanding on them. During a polarization, your elements were subject to the influence of your personality and mood with the inconvenient of being uncontrollable. He had to exert himself to be able to keep them under control.
As for his soul upgrading power, the space-time rending sword, it was easy to use. The breaches that he kept opening and having his cloak fuse with and the realities that resulted from the use of such power, were the least of his worries. All he wanted to see was the end result of him becoming a human again and going back to his family.

A World With or Without Aliens
Nothing matters. It's not my opinion, it's a scientific fact. This is neither good nor bad, it just... is. I watched my entire country burn, fried on a patriotic pan after some jerk fired a bunch of nukes at the docile fleet of alien ships hovering over us. Who gave this moron such power? I don't know. Everyone involved is most likely dead by now. As for me, I can't die. I feel pain like a normal person would (I think), but no matter how terrible the conditions, I will never die or pass out. Fortunately, a lot of alien technology survived its crash to Earth, so I get to spend some time playing with it until Mr. Author gets bored and decides to screw up my life. Beware, this has a "harem" tag. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm the main character and am therefore subject to this novel's timeline. While this bars me from the sweet ignorance of Chapter 1's me, it does have other perks... for example, I can tell you that heroine number one is personally responsible for kil-!? H-hey, back off! I'm your character, so if you didn't want me to be like this, then you should've written me differently! Randomguy here! In all seriousness, this novel is meant to explore the concept of nihilism as a post-apocalyptic/supernatural-scifi/satire told from a nihilistic introvert's first-person perspective. As you heard from my unsettled main character, each heroine is going to be a different type of horrifying socio/psychopath with dark motives and dangerous abilities (most of which are psychological). Why would I do something like this? Because I am, in reality, a nihilist who is often frustrated by weird things, like unrealistically dramatic stories, the industrialization of art (specifically music), and people who think swimming in brown creekwater for five hours is a "fun" activity. Don't get me wrong, neither me nor my character are depressed, we're just malcontents who make a lot of nerd references. I feel like the true essence of an "everything is worthless" perspective is lost on most pop-culture figures. The closest character I can think of at the moment is Rick from Rick and Morty, who is a drunk, angry nihilist that experienced tremendous loss. I, personally, find this belligerent state of mind to be very relatable, and have incorperated it into every chapter's introduction. Here, the main character talks directly to the reader (and me), shamelessly complaining about some semi-relevant facet of society, which probably doesn't make much sense... it's not really supposed to, though. These "angry nihilist" moments are just a peak into the main character's everyday existence, and also act as miniature rage-journals for me. It will sometimes take a subjectively 'positive' turn, but not very often. This is because reality isn't good or bad, "it just... is". I will eventually bring it full-circle to optimistic nihilism, since that seems to be a more practical way to live (and by "practical", I mean "doesn't create mental health issues"). It is, of course, a satire. I did this because most unnecessarily emotional moments or people usually make me feel kind of awkward, so I decided to mock them. That is, I plan to mock the characteristics about them I don't like in characters based solely off said characteristics. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy my story!

Delicate as Glass
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Nuri, an [Assistant Glassworker], only has a single Skill. It’s really not fair. He’s worked in the hot shop his entire life, following in his father’s footsteps after his parents passed away, but he’s stuck. Despite possessing above-average talent as an artisan, he still hasn’t shed his [Assistant] status, gained a second Skill, or even leveled enough to reach the first Threshold. Besides, he’s bored; most days he daydreams of adventure and becoming a hero, or pines for the renown that’s sure to be his if he evolves his Class into a [Master Glass Smith], but nothing ever changes—until suddenly, fate strikes, and nothing is ever the same again. These days, Nuri sees more magic, prestige, and adventure than he can handle as he gets swept up in realm-shaking conspiracies and desperate fights for his life. Maybe a boring life wasn’t so bad after all. Disclaimers: 1) Names were mostly chosen through random generators and aren’t necessarily final. If they seem derivative or boring, blame RNG. 2) Skills, Classes, levels, and the entire system is currently a work in progress; please be kind if it’s not very well fleshed out yet. 3) This is the first full-length novel I've set out to write without a single plot point ready. I had nothing in mind other than a recent visit to a hot shop. Molten glass is pretty awesome. 4) Related, I know much less about glass than I’d like. I did some research, but mistakes are bound to happen. If you have a correction, thanks! Please be polite about it. 5) The prose is my experimental attempt at first-person, present tense. I realize it may not be everyone’s preference, but I hope you’ll give it a try anyway!
