《Netherwyrm god》27--- Self Sacrificial art

As Devinn researched the sacrificial magic in the faith world, he found that the magic could do more than just the obvious.
One could store his sacrifices indefinitely and ask for his wish or wishes whenever he wanted.
One could also ask for his wish in advance and offer corresponding sacrifices later.
It was also possible to sacrifice what did not belong to you as long as you could deal with the ramifications that came with sacrificing it.
One could sacrifice a planet or an entire universe, but one needed to be strong enough to contain the energy he was about to sacrifice.
A sacrifice was something that could be turned into energy. Anything contained energy.
Initiating the sacrificial magic turned the sacrifice into energy immediately.
The sacrificial art that Devinn had created used the same principles but in fights.
“This is my |¤self sacrificial art¤|. Good luck.” Said Devinn as he remained there unmoving.
The spectre was wondering what the self sacrificial art was. It immediately summoned all the darkness element it could summon.
An endless amount of darkness appeared as the spectre stood at the center of it.
No light could reach the void they were in.
Most surprising was Devinn who still stayed around as the darkness dangerously approached him.
Devinn did the same as he had done during the fight with the Emperor.
Under the empty eyes of the disbelieving spectre, Devinn just waved his hand and the darkness that had seemed endless vanished.
The spectre was thinking that time had been tampered with. Everything was back to what it was before the spectre had conjured the darkness into existence.
The spectre tried the same thing countless times, but with a wave of a hand, Devinn made everything disappear.
“This energy is not mana. It must be the rumored Divine energy. So that’s how it is. He is using another power source to conjure elements. Divine energy is of a higher level than mana in some cases. It is the same energy that some ancient True dragons use. ” Thought Devinn.
His self sacrificial art was storing divine energy inside him.
Devinn had used the ability of sacrifice magic to transform any substance into the power source that was used to create it.
He planned on forcing the spectre to use more energy so he could sacrifice it and then store as much as he could.
“I better start sacrificing the mana I stored previously to attack and make some space for divine energy to be stored. Divine energy is too potent.” Devinn thought.
He sacrificed all the mana he had stored.
For Cosmic gods that could recover mana instantly, mana could be stored indefinitely.
His body was not as powerful as Alwyn but his soul was.
He was a multi-elemental as well.
He teleported in front of the spectre and touched its forehead and thought: “I sacrifice all the mana stored inside of me to make this spectre feel great pain as long as I touch him.”
All the mana stored immediately disappeared.
Then came the scream of a spectre. It almost sounded like a dying banshee.
The poor spectre could not understand how a spectre could feel pain nor how the jinx in front of it had managed to make it possible.
From its perspective, it had been fighting the impossible from the very beginning. Nothing made sense.
“I do not know how the automaton left behind in this Everworld by the arcane apprentice, Erling, does it but its capacity at granting wishes is astonishing. Erling must be elated right now. No one else must be sending him as much energy as I am.” Thought Devinn.

Erling was the creator of the worlds of faith as well as the creator of the sacrificial magic. The automaton that acted as a relay for sacrifices was the only thing Devinn could communicate with. Erling used the automaton to receive the energy sacrificed in exchange for a wish.
The spectre was fleeing for its life after realizing that it only suffered when Devinn touched it.
It released as much darkness energy as it could only to see it disappear after a wave of the same hand that brought an untold amount of pain.
Devinn enjoyed the chase as he stored as much divine energy as he could. He even used Alwyn as a storing bag for divine energy when his storing limit was reached.
For an arcanist like Erling to create such a controversial magic such as granting wishes, it was hard to imagine what he couldn’t do.
“I abandon. Please…No more.” The spectre pleadingly said.
Devinn stayed his hand.
Fearing that the fight would continue the spectre immediately handed a soul strand containing the information Devinn wanted.
Devinn accepted the strand.
This spectre had no idea that it used Divine energy. Even Devinn found out after he had stored energy from the sacrificed darkness element for the first time.
“You use divine energy to conjure the darkness element. Did you know that?” Devinn asked.
If the spectre could show a surprised face, it would be showing it. It said: “The same divine energy that the divine True dragons use? How is this possible? No human can use divine energy.”
“Well, it’s the truth. I stole it from you just now and it appears that divine energy is a more powerful fuel than mana. Now we know why the darkness element that you conjure is many times stronger than anything conjured with mana.” Devinn explained. He then asked: “I have a proposition for you. If you come with us, I can implant an element of your choice in your soul. It will make you even more powerful. In exchange, you allow us to tap into that divine energy. Just for a while. Long enough for me and Alwyn to fuse with it.”
The spectre looked at Devinn with excitement. There was such a thing as gaining more elements?
It also understood that Devinn was holding back on his offer, otherwise, he could’ve offered more elements.
The spectre then adopted the shrewdness of the Human emperor: “I bring divine energy and you just offer one element?”
Devinn was surprised for a moment, but countered with: “Well I can also capture you and transform you into a Divine pool, if that’s what you want. Besides, I was thinking that the light element was a good fit for you. Since you run on divine energy, you should prepare for a polarity to occur. I’ve never dealt with divine energy before so I have no idea what your chances of survival are if your darkness element polarizes itself. Having the light element implanted immediately should help if you can completely fuse with it before the polarity. ”
The spectre appeared doubtful as Devinn mentioned the polarity. It thought: “There is such a thing? I will know for sure when I follow him.”
The spectre did not hesitate and said: “I will follow you.”
“choose a name for yourself. It might help in the future.” Devinn suggested.
“Dorian.”
“Welcome to our home Dorian.” Said Alwyn who was watching the fight from afar. He immediately teleported them back into their Elemental church Everworld as his words echoed in their minds.

Devinn gave Dorian an astral body. It turned Dorian into a demon by affiliation.
The poor Dorian was later informed that being bestowed an astral body by Alwyn had no changes to the external appearance.
Dorian complained and Devinn told him: “At least now you look like something. That spectre appearance of yours is weird to look at. Now you have a real body to move around. ”
As Devinn studied the |¤Demon spectre magic¤| he found out that the main ingredient was a strand of a massive and powerful soul.
The rest were demonized soul that had been tortured for eons in the most hellish of environments.
The first part was covered. His soul was strong enough.
As for the numbers of souls needed, he had none. Not even one.
The faith world did not have an underworld of its own but Astral hells and paradises filled with countless astral doubles.
The human alliances had their underworlds but did not create hells to torture souls. They just imprisoned the most dangerous ones.
“The astral doubles in the astral hells should be used in the same way. I just do not know the result I will be faced with. I will just be in the blind just like the human Emperor.” Devin mused to himself.
“A divine astral body from an amalgamation of trillions of astral doubles. Is it possible? Or maybe something else will be created?”
“Time to empty the hells I created.”
“But before that, I must fuse with the divine element just in case what I create is more powerful than me.”
Devinn went to find Alwyn.
They had been siphoning away Dorian’s endless divine energy and storing it in many places.
All they needed to do was repeat the same procedure they underwent during their ascension to the cosmic god level. This time instead of fusing mana with the soul and the body, they used the divine energy.
The fusion happened without a hitch.
“We still have the mana inside of us as well. It was not pushed out.” Alwyn observed.
“This should be the level above the cosmic god level. Now everything we conjure will be even stronger. In no time, human in our Everworld will be able to use this new power source and even fuse with it.” Devinn said.
“What do we call this new level then? Any ideas?” Alwyn asked.
“The divine level. That’s how the true dragons call it.” Devinn answered.
Next, Devinn went to all his hells and retrieved as many prisoners as he could.
He created the nineteenth floor. That is where he would attempt fusing the astral doubles.
His demon emissaries were happy to help their god administer a last punishment to their prisoners. They were the ones who went for each hell to pick the most resilient captives and brought them to the nineteenth hell. They incessantly went back and forth.
The world of faith had existed for eons. Even longer than the Human Everworld. The number of astral doubles living in the astral planes was uncountable.
“Why do you not erase their memories? Even the human emperor who erased them ended up dead. Why are you so confident this idea of yours will work?” the spectating Alwyn asked.
In the middle of the nineteenth floor, there was a bottomless pit. They were both floating above it. The emissaries appeared and dropped the prisoners' astral bodies inside it in an endless stream.
“I left a strand of my soul in there. It has no memories whatsoever. It only has the task of forcefully fusing the astral bodies being thrown in.” Devinn said. He added: “What I want to see is the result of such an experiment. I can already feel their fear as they are being thrown in. Their fear as they are forced to fuse together. Their fear as they feel endless pain.” He paused and looked at Alwyn saying: “The power of fear that I’ve been gaining from all these evil doers keeps trying to turn me into a true demon and I keep holding it back. I feel like there is more to it. I want their emotions to give birth to a new power. Something that has never been seen in the world of faith before.”
Alwyn felt shivers as looked at the pit. He said: “ They must feel all this pain, I reckon that they will hate you in the end. ”
“The power of hate…huh… I get a huge physical boost from the power of fear alone. I wonder what I will become after this.” Devinn said.
“You will become more of a true demon than the true demons we’re about to fight in the upcoming war. sigh...I will end up being left behind. There is a probability that your body will be stronger than mine when your little experiment ends.” Alwyn helplessly said.
“You can do the same thing but in a different way.” Devinn said.
“You mean kill my own believers when they are living in bliss inside their paradises? I will just become a demon. Their hatred will be even more corrosive than your prisoners'.” Alwyn said.
“No. Not like that. Most of them have been wandering for eons inside the astral planes and they are so bored that they wish for it to end. Your paradises are only a way for them to distract themselves. If you create an altar and tell them that they could give their lives to be part of their god’s strength, they will be more than happy to sacrifice themselves to become a part of you.” Devinn said.
“Is such a thing even possible? I mean, what kind of power would come out of it?” Alwyn asked.
“ The power of faith comes from self-sacrifice. If they really sacrifice themselves with the hope of being a part of you for the rest of their lives, you’d be giving them the chance to hope of being useful to you and the ones you protect. ” Devinn said.
The screams and sobs that came out of the pit had intensified until they finally came to a stop after a few days.
“It’s over. If something happens to me, take care of my children.” Devinn laughingly said.
“You possess divine energy now. Let alone before, what could possibly happen to you now? Besides, you never do anything without a contingency plan.” Alwyn shrugged his shoulders.
Suddenly, an enormous pressure washed over them, forcing them to kneel.
“I see. This time, we’re in for it.” Devinn managed to say.
“What was your contingency plan again?” Alwyn asked.
“You.” Devinn said as a bright grayish light entered his chest.

Trapped in a game with no rules, and surrounded by cutthroat players eager to kill for a quick windfall, Lily and her ragged band have no choice but to fight their way out, or die in a game that has turned all too real. Hi there! I'm setting off on yet another adventure, come join me :3 Unusually for me, there's only one perspective this time, and it's quite a bit more action-oriented than I usually write. Don't worry, though: everything's still as character-driven as always, and I never get tired of writing dialogue. Just to acknowledge it up front: this story is heavily inspired by EVE Online and the many stories generated by that world. However, since this is a fantasy setting, not sci-fi, don't expect any real parallels. Chapter publish rate for this one will be whenever I write them, as with Epilogue. I don't expect to move as fast here though, since it's not for NaNo. The plan is chapters somewhere in the 4k-5k range, and hopefully frequently. The Last Science takes priority as always though. Special thanks to Reaver and Ace Arriande for pushing me to get this going, and to all my fellow writers whom I've stolen from been inspired by. You're all wonderful people and I love you Quick reminder: Patrons get to read ahead of what's published! Also, try my other works: The Last Science — A Tale of Modern Magic Epilogue — A Post-Fantasy Psychodrama What are you still doing on the synopsis? Get to reading!
