Prologue
“Hmm, fascinating world. They named it Earth? Why would they name it after dirt?”
The ancient being sat in his chair in an unknown space. He was beyond bored, but something about this planet had caught his interest.
“I think I’ll change this world just a tiny bit.”
The being started to move his finger towards Earth, which was seated snugly in his palm. This being proceeded to alter the world to his liking.
“Let’s see what happens now that I’ve made some changes.”
This ancient being smiled as he started to inspect the effects of his actions.
Chapter 1
January 23, 2023
On this day, the earth changed completely. One minute, everything was normal, the next minute, Earth became like a fantasy novel. Unique powers called skills awakened in the residents of Earth. This day the world changed was called Omega.
Technology was advanced further than what it had accomplished with human power alone. With the addition of skills and magic, many technological advances were made, full immersion VR, hoverboards, and many machines that operated on magic power were invented. When this change took place, the world was in shock. Everyone had no clue as to what had happened. As years passed, many people that are now famous, had discovered about skills and how to use them. With these skills, they conjured magic and improved the world, technology was only the start. The people that had discovered skills founded schools that taught children about these skills and how to control them. These schools are called were named Academies.
14 years later, present day England.

September 7, 2037
Today was Damon Zellar’s first day of high school. He had been accepted into the most prestigious Academy in England, the Royal academy, a school attended by many nobles’ and wealthy people’s children. Coincidentally, Damon was born in the year that Omega happened.
“Hm, it’s finally the first day of school, where’s my uniform?” Damon mumbled to himself as he groped around in his closet. He was excited to get to school.
Damon looked around his bedroom for his uniform and finally found it. It was a red dress shirt with a black tie, with matching black dress pants. Damon picked up his clothes and brought them to the washroom to get changed. Damon lived in a run down apartment that had existed in the neighborhood for years. It had 4 rooms, his bedroom, washroom, kitchen, and living room.
Once reaching the washroom, he put on his contacts. Everywhere he went, people questioned him about his red eyes. That’s why he choose to wear brown contacts instead, so he wouldn’t get bothered as much. He had inherited his red eyes from his father, but had been a nuisance his entire life.
After that, Damon headed towards his kitchen for breakfast. Damon took some food out of the refrigerator and started cooking. He heard a DING DING DING sound once his food was finished, so he carried the food onto the table.
After, he sat down at his small two person table, and started eating his breakfast. His food was simple, consisting of only bread and eggs. He never spared a thought on it, because he was all too used to it by now. Damon never had money to spare, so he couldn’t enjoy luxuries like a decent breakfast.

Mother, I hope you’re proud of me. I’ve finally made it into the best school in England and I’m safe and healthy.
As Damon was about to get another serving, his alarm rang. Looking at the time he realized he would be late for school if he didn’t leave now. School started soon, so he quickly put the dishes in the sink and left his apartment.
The Royal Academy was within walking distance of his apartment, so he sprinted towards it. Damon saw many others in the school's uniform walking towards the Academy’s direction. They were all in groups talking together, while Damon was all by himself.
I hope I can make some good friends at this academy, and walk to school together like those kids. I hope that we all have a great school year together.
Unfortunately for Damon, things wouldn’t be that easy for him at his new school.

Damon walked in to find a teacher directing some of the students to a training hall.
“You, you’re new, right?” asked the teacher. Damon realized the teacher was looking at him.
“Yeah, this is my first day!” said Damon proudly.
“All new students need to go to Training Hall A for assessment. You’ll be ranked and assigned to classes accordingly.”
“That way?” asked Damon, pointing to where the other new students were going. The teacher had moved on to other students, leaving Damon to follow the crowd and ponder what he’d just learned.
There’s a class ranking system? I hope I don’t get placed in the lowest ranked class.
Damon’s stomach churned as he thought about somehow being placed in the lowest class.
As Damon was heading towards the training hall, another student approached him. She was around 10 inches shorter than him. She had purple hair and looked like she was a descendant of a noble.
“Hi! My name’s Rachel. I’m the daughter of Duke Hamlet, and I have telepathic powers. You could call me an esper.”
“Hello, my name’s Damon. How can I help you?” Damon was confused. He knew he didn’t look like the other wealthy kids here. Why is this girl talking so casually as if I’m her friend? She just appeared out of nowhere!
The girl looked him up and down. The girl looked him up and down like he was a product to be bought in a shopping mall. As her critical gaze swept over him, Damon took the opportunity to get a good look at her. Besides her obvious height and hair color, Damon could see the uniform she wore wasn't standard issue. It looked the same, but was made of high quality cloth and was perfectly tailored to her frame. She stood with the easy confidence that could only come from a lifetime of every whim being catered to.
“You seem like your pretty fit, can you hurry up and introduce your family name and your powers already? I don’t have all day.”
The girl seemed like she was in a hurry and that talking with him was a waste of her time. Her eyes had been looking around, not focusing on him and she seemed a bit hyper. She kept bouncing on the spot. Maybe she ate a lot of sugar with breakfast?

“Um, I live by myself. I am pretty good physically, but I don’t have any unique skills,” admitted Damon. His bluntly honest self-assessment blurted out of his mouth before he could stop it.
Rachel’s face instantly distorted. “What? Are you saying you’re a commoner that doesn’t even have any talent? How dare you try talking to someone as noble as myself you disgusting filth. You’re not even worth any of my time.”
Rachel’s words caught Damon by surprise.
“Why are you acting like—“ Damon tried to say.
Rachel immediately interrupted him.“Stop talking to me you commoner. You don’t have the right to speak to me starting from now,” The girl was clearly spoiled, and now she was on the verge of making a scene.
“But you’re the one that spoke to me first!” spluttered Damon, his mouth unwilling to quit while his mind raced to catch up.
Rachel’s face twisted even more.
“How dare you talk back to a noble like me you trash?! I’ll make sure you get punished accordingly!”
After saying that, she angrily stomped away towards what looked like the direction of other students while muttering about wasted time and how she could have made connections with some talented freshmen instead.
Damon was bewildered by the rapid mood change, simply because he admitted to being poor. What in the world just happened? If the whole school is like that, the divide between the powerful and weak must be larger than I thought.
Little did he know, his guess was right on target.

[Training Hall]
The training hall was basically just a gigantic gym, like Damon had seen in tv shows. It had a huge open space bigger than a football field. There were also side rooms with more specific equipment for what you wanted to do. As Damon entered the door, he could see hundreds of students lining up for the class placement exam. There were students from many different backgrounds, some looked like royalty while others just looked like regular high school students. He could easily see the class differences between the rich and poor. The wealthy and noble were showing off to their friends, while the normal students were just casually talking with their friends.
There were several lines, and many teachers conducting the tests. Damon walked towards the registration line to take the exam.
“Hello, are you here for the class placement exam? Could I see your letter of acceptance into the Royal Academy to confirm?” said the registration lady.
Damon quickly pulled out his letter of acceptance from his coat pocket.
“Here you go.” Damon handed the letter to the lady, and stood there waiting. After the lady examined he letter, she asked for his name, and wrote it down on a sheet of paper.
After finishing registration, he proceeded to the first line up - the Physical Combat Test.
As he was standing in line, he saw a particularly well dressed girl conducting the physical test. She certainly looked like royalty. Her uniform had extra gold lining, and an expensive red velvet cloth. She had blonde hair and blue eyes that made a good match. Also, the air around her just yelled out ROYALTY. Her uniform was neat and she walked in a fancy way. Her legs were going one in front of another and she even flicked her hair behind her head once. She was standing in a blue ring that looked like a boxing ring, just 10 times bigger.
Let’s see how she performs and see if she is a powerful student. I should be able to gauge how strong the students at this school are from this fight.
The well dressed girl’s opponent was another girl, about the same height as her with blue hair. She was one of the normal looking students, and she had a nervous expression on her face. Her clothes were more worn than her opponent’s and they were wrinkled in various areas. She didn’t give off the same vibe and she didn’t walk in any particularly fancy way. Her description could be defined as a commoner.
“Go Siena! Go Siena!”The crowd chanted and cheered for the blonde haired girl causing her opponent to start forming beads of sweat on her head.
The instructor managing this test informed the two girls about the rules. After the explanation, the instructor got out of the ring and started counting down.
“3—2—1—START!”
The two girls didn’t move from their spots, they eyed each other trying to figure out and predict their enemies’ moves. This stalemate took two minutes, before the blue haired girl made the first move.
She rushed forward while chanting something. The result was her fist being covered with a light blue light. Before her fist could hit the target though, the blonde girl also chanted something and a yellow force field like barrier appeared, and surrounded her body.
The blue light covered fist clashed against the yellow barrier. Sparks flew as the two forces met, but the blue haired girl couldn’t break through the barrier.
“As expected of the King’s daughter, truly fitting results for the princess. That magic barrier was excellently made,” exclaimed one of the teachers to another in the seats near where Damon was standing. “It’s almost guaranteed that she’s going to make it into the S-class.”
Damon continued to hear praise for her as the two continued to fight. Clearly, she was a favorite of the teachers.
She certainly is strong, I hope I don’t have to go against someone that strong when it’s my turn.
As the blue haired girl continued to hammer down on the yellow barrier, the blonde girl was watching closely for an opening. The moment her opponent took a small break from her assault, she disabled the barrier and rushed forward. She chanted something and her fist was covered in a similar light to the blue light from before, but this one was shining brighter and with a harsher intensity.
She swung her arm towards her enemy’s stomach. When it connected, the blue haired girl flew backward and fainted.
The crowd cheered, as the instructor concluded the battle.
Suddenly, Siena turned her head towards somewhere in the room. She had a confused expression, but after a few seconds, it returned to being composed.
Siena looked around the room until her gaze landed on Damon.
“You. Come up here right now. I’ll be your opponent for the combat exam.”

After many years apart, Rihelah was on her way to see Michael, hoping to rekindle their friendship on the day they would both lose their lives. The pair are unwittingly selected to represent Earth in a test set forth by godlike beings who are intrigued that our world gave rise to complex life without having been intentionally seeded by their kind. Michael and Rihelah are reincarnated as predatory insects upon a distant planet called Edon. Elves, Dwarves, Dragons and their kin, Goblins, Ogres, Humans, Lizardfolk, Orcs, and sapient arthropods known as Enkelyn all inhabit this beautiful world touched by magic. The tiny mantids must survive terrified and very much alone upon arrival, while neither is aware that the other has also been reincarnated upon the same island. Naked in their new chitinous exoskeletons, they must now brave the terrors of an alien world's food chain. Each will benefit from their years of experience on Earth, but they must somehow find a balance between old lives and new. Moderate mindsets and peaceful values from a mostly safe and privileged life on Earth must now contend and somehow coexist with the strange physiology of a new and unfamiliar body as well as the violent aggressiveness of a predator's mind. To top things off, the pair are about to find themselves struggling with their inner turmoil while swept up by terrible conflicts they know nothing about. Both endure the hardships of their new lives while attempting to understand and make proper use of a mysterious and terse video-game-like System that pops status notifications into their vision from time to time, but initially has no useful interface. Some of the options they are presented with sound enticing, but as with everything else in life, each choice has benefits and drawbacks... Author's Note: This story makes many changes to the original version, and readers of Mantid will find that many things in Mantis are new and different; especially after the first few chapters. I've learned a ton from writing like a madman, and also from the RR community. I appreciate you guys! :)
