Chapter:4
The next day at around midday, Damian and Gianna found themselves at an airport with Akiko and Raijin. As they waited Raijin decided to tell the brother and sister what was going on,
“By the way, we are not going on campus today but for a few months you will be staying with some relatives of ours. I am warning you that things will definitely be different from what you are used to so don’t be too worried about little mistakes.”
“So where are we going exactly?” Damian enquired.
“We are going to the beating heart of the Nihon Empire, Nippon. We will specifically be going to Kawagoe. As to your accommodations, that has been arranged and it will be a surprise. We will be traveling by using a private Skywalker*. The flight should take roughly 59 hours.”
Damian’s eyes bulged out,
“Wait, Skywalkers, that’s the new tech that is making air travel possible for the masses, and you’re saying we are travelling on a private one?! Those things cost around 21,000 Aureate.”
Raijin nonchalantly waved the comment away and looked up just as the Skywalker became visible in the sky. Akiko directed the siblings to the boarding area and they waited with their luggage as the Skywalker made its landing. Damian and Gianna stood there in awe but there were more surprises to come. An air hostess who introduced herself as Chika, came to meet them, she spoke in a clipped but soft voice and she invited them inside. The interior of the airship was magnificent; like a five star hotel. As they walked in there were several other flight attendants going here and there attending to various tasks. The group were further directed to a corridor with six rooms.
Damian opened one of the doors and in it laid the most picturesque arrangement he had ever seen in his life. In the room there was a large king-sized bed, a study desk made of bocote wood and a shelf filled with books. There was also a 292 inch flat screen television and beside it were two vents that released water. All around the room there were cherry blossom bonsai trees and vines simply adorning the already perfect room. The group was yet again directed further into the airship where they found a dining room and a table covered in many breakfast delights. The group basically dove towards the food.
After the group were done eating, they went to meet all of the crew members. Damian, afterwards, went to his room as he was directed to read the books that were on the shelves in his room. The books contained the history of the Nihon Empire, its rulers, the economy and just about everything you would need to know. Obviously Damian utilised his Gakushanome. He sat there reading for hours, he only stopped to enjoy a few croissants and a mocha that a flight attendant brought for him. As Damian continued his reading he learned that the Nihon Empire previously was referred to as simply Japan and it was divided between 3 rulers. These rulers ruled Japan and surrounding nations and therefore it was technically an empire already.

Japan was unified in the year 2503 BIC, when Emperor Kenji successfully defeated his two other rivals. Since then an established royal line was made and Emperor Kenji adopted a similar system to the Britannian Empire’s peerage system. The Emperor stabilised the economy of the lands that he ruled. He ensured that the lands he ruled were referred to as the Nihon Empire and the heart of that Empire was called Nippon. Emperor Kenji continued to rule until he died at the age of 305 in the year 2787 according to the Britannian Imperial Calendar.
Despite the almost endless sea of information that Damian continued to consider, Damian could not contain his excitement as he read on and on. He finally stopped though when his stomach ferociously growled. Damian went and cleaned up his room and then went out of his room to get to the dining room. It seemed like the entire group had the same idea because all of them exited their rooms and they were all facing the direction to the dining room. They first had an appetizer of mixtures of sushi. Afterwards they all ate a hearty dinner of tonkotsu ramen that had pork and wagyu beef that simply melted in the mouth, as for the desert they had an exquisite and smooth Baileys cheesecake and a gelato flavor of their choice. Damian thought that he could have died happily then as he slouched in his seat absolutely satisfied.
Damian turned towards the air hostess that they had met earlier and enquired,
“Excuse me Mrs.Chika, how long until we reach our destination?”
“It should take around 67 hours, Mr.Tesla, sir.”
Damian waved his hand and flatly announced,
“From now on I want all the crew members to simply refer to me as Damian. No Mr.Damian please, you’re making me feel like a senior citizen with how much older you all are than me but still referring to me as Mr.Tesla. I mean sure yeah my hair’s white but come on.”
The staff members paused and looked at eachother with confusion splattered across their faces. They had expected Damian to be some kind of rich spoiled brat. The crew members all warmly smiled and nodded their heads and from then on Damian was well...Damian. Damian continued his routine of reading and then eating, although occasionally Damian would use the massive television to watch some anime. Damian decided that he would take advantage of the music studio that was fitted into the Skywalker as well.

Soon though the Skywalker reached its destination. It landed in the city of Tokyo. Once the Skywalker landed, the group walked for a while and reached the train station and were ushered to a black train with only a few cars. They entered the first car and the interior was breathtaking. Inside sat a slender handsome man in a black tailcoat tuxedo with a black tie and white shirt to match. He had light brown hair and deep green eyes, and he was 21 years old. He spoke with a posh but warm Britannian accent and had a very warm smile that revealed perfectly set pearly whites as he told the group good morning. He then said while lowering his head,
“Good day Master Damian, my name is Benedict Augustus but please call me Benedict and I will from now on serve as your personal butler, but you must understand that my actual employer will hold the most authority over me. But I will try to fulfill all your requests to the best of my ability.”
Benedict turned to the others,
“I will also do my best to serve you all as well as I can, of course.”
The train took around 1 hour for them to reach Kawagoe and it took them 15 minutes by carriage to reach in front of the gates of their accommodations. Two large gates opened and as the limousine drove through Damian saw a large expanse of various species of trees and some of them were his favourite of all, cherry blossom trees. They soon reached a fountain that was part of a roundabout that was in front of the entrance to the home. Benedict opened the doors to the carriage and assisted all in the group exit the carriage.
Ahead of them there were two large oak wood doors. They stepped in and there was an army of servants waiting for them. Benedict joined them and they all bowed down and in one voice bellowed,
“Welcome!”
Damian and Gianna were next introduced to a female butler who was the head of the female servants. Her name was Octavia Archambault, she was in her early 20’s as for the exact number we cannot say, after all females are adamant when it comes to their refusal to share their age. Octavia was a very prepossessing woman of average height, she was slender but yet curved in the places that needed it. She had bright red lips, smooth, flawless porcelain skin and short silky black hair. Her eyes were a dark lively red; a bloody crimson.

Damian and Gianna were directed to their rooms. Benedict instructed Damian to take a bath. After Damian was done, Benedict combed his hair while another servant fetched the outfit that Damian was expected to wear. Damian was given a three piece gray tailcoat, a white shirt and a dark purple tie and pocket square that matched the color of his Gakushanome when it was activated. Damian was also given a gold pocket watch, an exquisite fountain pen and an elegant cane with a gold top.
Damian never thought that people actually wore so many layers of clothing at once. Damian exited his room to find his sister in a black cocktail dress with japanese designs on it and a gold flower was pinned on her chest. Her hair had several gold pins holding it in an elegant french braid and the purple ends of her black hair was sheer perfection.
Damian simply gave Gianna a short compliment and she soon went to find Raijin while Benedict went and washed up and changed. Akiko met Damian at the bottom of the stairs. Akiko wore an alluring black pencil dress, while it was simple, it did not make Akiko any less beautiful. Damian politely complimented her and went on his way. They all went to the dining table and sat down waiting for the important host. Benedict went on to serve tea as they waited.

Just as they finished drinking, the sound of the large oak doors opening and closing echoed throughout the mansion. All the servants who were supposed to attend the dinner lined up and straightly stood up, smoothly and organized like a well oiled machine. A loud voice bellowed,
“Good night to all!”
*Skywalker- essentially a zeppelin

Through Mist, Veil, and Summer
Anna Lawrence is a quiet girl who'd rather sit and write poetry than bustle about with her peers. After an incident resulting in a panic attack and a trip to the hospital, Anna's foster mother sends her to stay with her aunt and uncle for the summer. Upon arriving in the small mountain town of Glenwood, Anna finds herself caught in the machinations of another world on the other side of the fog: warring witches, animal-headed skypirates, and the boldest, bravest, most interesting girl Anna has ever met. THROUGH MIST, VEIL, AND SUMMER is my homage to Studio Ghibli films. It's a fantasy romance with a dash of adventure and a sprinkling of self-contemplation. It's a story that moves a little slower, a little quieter. It is my fourth novel, written between October 1, 2017 and January 6, 2019.
