《The Oresteia (Modernized)》Prologue, Patroclus

ONLY the prologue and intermissions are written in poem.
The rest are written in plain English (i.e. prose).
10 Years Ago: From the Journals of Patroclus
A gloom spirit was what I carried scores of days ago
When Achilles I followed to his prophesized end
On the fields of Troy away from our dearest home.
How my heart still aches, for the inevitable doom.
That damned Odysseus, with his cunning tongue
Convinced my dearest friend that the essence of life
Was to be found more in the glory of battle and blood
Than in the embrace of family, friends, and lover.
For days we waited at the shores of Aulis,
The might of a thousand ships surrounding us
Yet the north wind will not break,
It rages on and on, day after day:
It broken men’s heart and mind,
Spared neither ship nor cable.
The time dragged on with the waves,
Doubling itself with each passing.
The army was desperate, brought to its knees.
When all hope seemed lost to the howling winds
Calchas the soothsayer received a message divine:
The Goddess Artemis was vengeful with spite.
For our leader Agamemnon, the king of Argos
Had angered the divinity in a hunt of his.
By his hand, he slew a favorite child of hers:
A hare, innocent, white, and pure.
The soothsayer declared the sacrifice to be slain:
The joy of the king’s house – his daughter.
Life for life,
Child for child.
The royal Iphigenia he called, his eldest daughter,
In deceit he called, promising marriage with my Achilles.
When she arrived bright with hope, he dared the deed,
Spilling his own blood to help a war yet to commence.
And all her prayers, cries of Father, Father,
Beholden by the entire army, we held as naught,
For we had become savage warriors, battle-mad.

Kindness, love, and empathy had left us all.
But the deathless gods in their eternal perfection
Were better than us in their deeds and mind.
So gentle was she, Artemis the holy,
To dewy youth, to tender nurslings.
That as Iphigenia lay dying in blood,
She changed her heart and there appeared.
By gentle hands, she healed her wounds,
Left in her place a stag coated in red.
The winds halted, and the thousand ships
Sailed on to battle, glory, treasure, and fame.
But ever there hang a dark atmosphere
For the king had spilled the blood of his own.

The Last Man Standing
In the far off future a lone sentient weapon survives the horrors of a war and finds himself without purpose. This is the tale of Mentuc as he struggles to find a new path of life, alongside the aid of his beloved wife. Of course, the past has a way of not letting go and history is always written by the victors... An interactive story where we follow the life of Mentuc both in his present day life as a married civilian and his past as the commander of the infamous Genesis Battalion, an entire unit made up of nothing but biological sentient weapons that made nations tremble. Follow the tale of the Empire's galactic showdown with the genocidal Kra'lagh race as betrayal and desperation rage all across, while his wife tries to mend the wounds that years of war and the loss of all he knew and cared for have left him, with one enigmatic and problematic exception. The first (currently being written) focuses on Mentuc's origins, Operation Angry Comet and a smaller part of the present.

Path of Divinity
The world has been assimilated by the Celestial Archives, a vast system designed to fight the forces that seek to destroy the universe. For most, it's a holy cause that rewards victory with stats, levels, and skills. For Hunter Gold, it's the start of a nightmare. Even in a system dominated by paths, he finds himself taking the road less traveled. This is a work in progress. Major editing will be done after the book is complete, so there will be egregious typos and parts that make no sense whatsoever. Please feel free to point any and all of these things out. Chapters WILL get edited, and that editing might break earlier chapters. I will attempt to keep readers apprised of all changes. As always, feedback is welcome and appreciated. This is kind of something fun I wanted to write after reading stories like The New World, System Apocalypse, and the Legend of Randidly Ghosthound. I don't know how serious I will be about this story, but I just want to try it out. I imagine that it will become a love child between Fable, Diablo, and Devil May Cry. Enjoy!
